Chapter 32: The White Wolf

Chapter 32: The White Wolf

Yuri’s second day at the Academy was the start of the weekend, which meant no classes were being held and Yuri had more time to investigate.

At least that was her original plan, until she got dragged around by Alice and her other classmates.

They were sitting on the roof of one of the Academies towers while having a nice relaxing picnic.

The sounds of chatter and the birds song was washed away by the soft summer breeze.

Everyone was wearing a relaxed and joyful expression, everyone except Yuri.

Whilst the rest were happy drinking tea and chatting, Yuri was busy trying to think of an excuse to escape and resume her search for the whereabouts of her dagger.

Unfortunately no matter what she tried, she just couldn’t get away form them as they somehow managed to talk her in sitting back down, every single time.

“Hmmm Yuri..you seem to want to leave rather badly..”

Alice began saying, which made Yuri stiffen up.

“Could it be..you’re afraid of heights?”

“Ah,”

Yuri wiped away some sweat from her brow.

“Yes, I’m a bit afraid of heights..so that’s why..”

She played along with an awkward smile.

“Of course..forgive me for not noticing earlier. It must have been scary..”

Alice’s rubbed Yuri’s head.

“Let’s pack up and climb down to ground level then”

The other girls began to pack up once Alice said that.

Attempting to quicken their speed up by helping up with folding the large blanket they used to sit on, Yuri struggled with the large piece of cloth.

As she was trying to fold it up, she noticed something white flash past the corner of her eye.

Something much larger than a bird, and much faster than one too.

Her head turned to see what it was just as a powerful gust of wind blew from the direction of the white thing that Yuri had noticed.

The wind knocked some of the girls down and before Yuri could notice, it had blown up the blanket like it was a parachute, making it fly over the edge of the tower, with Yuri still holding it.

Quickly trying to let go, she realised it was too late. She was already over the edge.

As she began to fall down the large tower, she saw Alice desperately running toward the edge while reaching her arm out.

She tried to grab her hand, but she missed it by just a hairs breadth, and kept plummeting down towards the ground.

Yuri’s hand had reflexively gone to where her dagger usually was. She was disappointed as the only thing there was just a normal dagger.

She tried jamming the dagger into the side of the tower to slow her fall down. All it did was cause a few sparks as the daggers blade broke off and flew past her face, lightly grazing her cheek.

Her last hope was the dress ribbon she wore, yet no matter how much she tugged on it, it refused to move or help in any way.

Having resigned herself to become a human pancake for the second time in her life. She cursed her splintered luck when she felt someone’s arms grab hold of her. The sound of someone softly landing on their feet filled her head, which was shocking when you expected to hear the sound of your own brains splattering across the pavement.

Opening her eyes while sighing in relief, the person holding her slowly put her down.

Soon enough the quick footsteps of the girls was heard from inside the tower as they emerged almost immediately while wearing horrified and worried expressions.

Their expressions changed into relief when they found Yuri to be unharmed. Alice have Yuri a tight hug while made her blush slightly due to feeling a certain softness touching her chest.

“Are you okay. Are you hurt. How are you feeling?”

Alice threw worried questions at her faster than a machine gun.

“I’m completely fine”

Yuri smiled stiffly, the fear still not having completely left her body.

“That’s good..”

Alice relaxed and turned towards the person who had caught Yuri.

“Thank you for saving her sir, that was amazing, may I ask who you are so I can thank you properly?”

“I’m the new teacher, here at this Academy, Here to teach History.”

Hikaru answered while standing behind Yuri and patting her head.

“Hey stop it!”

His hand was slapped away by a flustered Yuri, who felt uncomfortable being patted in front of other people.

“Anyway if you will excuse us..i need to ask a few questions regarding..History..”

Hikaru’s was dragged away by his arm.

“Hmm..do they know each other..?”

Alice wondered as the two disappeared in the distance.

“Maybe it’s a confession!” One of the girls suggested.

“Or maybe he is already her boyfriend!” Another one said, as the topic of Yuri and the new teacher became popular.

“Hmmm..” Alice was left scratching her head thoughtfully.

“Well…?”

Yuri looked at Hikaru after dragging him into an empty part of the castle.

“Sorry I didn’t tell you, but they only managed to get me this job yesterday, so I had no time to inform you”

“Not that!” She snapped “That much is obvious, I mean the whole fallen god thing.” She crossed her arms.

“So..you ended up finding out..”

His eyes darkened slightly.

“You see. I’m fairly sure, that the ones responsible for the disappearances of other relics, are led by a fallen god.”

“But why would it want the relics. What is a fallen god anyway, and how do you know that for certain!?”

He was bombarded with questions.

“I think I mentioned it before. Fallen gods are gods who were banished into this realm by the other gods. As for why they would want the relics..I suppose they wish to go back to the upper realm and re-obtain their immortality.”

“But how do you even know it’s one of those fallen gods?”

She asked again, with slightly more irritation.

“Because I will never forget that symbol. The symbol portraying the sun. It’s her symbol.”

He gritted his teeth. Hikaru’s eyes filled with a mad fury that made Yuri shiver in fear.

“Ah, forgive me Yuri..I didn’t mean to startle you..”

His face changed from dark hatred to worry, when he realised Yuri had taken a small step back in fear.

“It’s fine..”She smiled softly and nervously.”I won’t ask about it..”

her chest filled with uncertainty and worry before clapping her hands together.

“How about you make yourself useful and help me search. I have no clue where my dagger could be.”

She dispelled her worry with a light comment and clapped her hands again.

“Chop chop, off to work!”

She commanded while they began to work.

A man with greying hair sat at his desk while nervously watching the black ring on his thumb.

A window behind the man burst open just as a strong gust of wind blew through his office. Making all manner of books and other items fall down in disarray.

“Oh dear..”

Sighing, the man picked up the items that had fallen down, but quickly stopped when he noticed a figure standing in the middle of his office.

“Oh you have arrived, forgive me for not noticing!”

The man gave a deep standing bow to the figure that was wearing nothing but a white mantle made of white fur. A large hood covered their head, made of the head of a white wolf.

“Show me the item.”

Came a distinctly feminine but commanding voice.

“Of course!”

The man swiftly opened up a drawer in his desk and took out a small dagger.

He offered it to the woman while holding himself as far away as possible.

The woman accepted the dagger and held it in front of her eyes, before slowly sliding her finger down the daggers edge, cutting slightly.

“Indeed..this appears to be what you claimed It was.”

The woman spoke after slowly smelling the dagger, making her eyes go wide.

“This smell…a very familiar smell…”

Looking around, she held her nose high while taking a deep breath.

“No mistake about it..It’s him..”

The woman’s smile could be seen even from behind her large white hood.

The air shifted around the woman in a most unnatural way. Causing random gusts of wind to appear from nowhere.

The man was forced to close his eyes because of the wind, and upon opening them, discovered that the woman was gone.

“What about my reward..”

Sighing, the man continued to pick up the fallen items in his office.
