Chapter 25: Planning, Slapping and Drinking

Chapter 25: Planning, Slapping and Drinking

The next morning went by with Yuri sitting in the same bar while waiting for the Golden claw member.

She had nothing particular to do now that she had betrayed the rebels, and Galin was asleep due to drinking while celebrating his new job.

Yuri had yet to talk to Jac about Galins new position, but she was sure he would go along with her suggestion.

With nothing to do, she idly waited for the Delem lookalike to arrive.

A few long hours and beers later, as Yuri was beginning to get slightly tipsy, the man that looked like Delem showed while shuffling like a penguin.

Yuri giggled at his peculiar way of walking.

“Oh you’re finally here Delem..”She smiled at him.

“You piece of shit, taking all the credit for my achievement!”

“Miss Yuri, I am not Delem. I have however a letter from him that I received an hour ago. These teleport circles are quite fiddly..so they can take a bit longer than expected..”

He handed over the letter, which Yuri grabbed and began to read.

The letter read:

Dear Yuri

I am extremely glad to find out you are alright, when you suddenly disappeared we feared the worst-

(Bla bla bla) Yuri skipped a few lines.

Forgive me for taking credit of the mission, but you didn’t specify that you wished for it to be known that you were the one who did it.

(That cheeky bastard..)

Please, as an apology, I will have my nephew Jarvis, the one who inherited my good looks, help you in whichever way you need, I have already sent him a separate letter in which I specified to assist you however he can.

(Pfft…Jarvis, I look forward to working with you..pft..good looks..)

I am sure that Hikaru would have been happy to find out that you are safe. He has however departed on a journey to search for your whereabouts, roughly a week after your disappearance. I have not heard from him since.

(….Hikaru….) The light headedness from the alcohol was gone like it was never there and replaced with deep worry that slightly shook her (I hope he’s okay..since he’s a valuable asset and companion after all..)

The fact that you were transported so far away is something I am only willing to believe because I have seen what you are capable of. A mountain of gold is every man’s dream.

Also do not worry about the Orb relic you had left behind, Hikaru has taken care of it when he left. I will be sure to send further letters through Jarvis when I acquire any useful information or am able to contact Hikaru.

-With love, Delem.

Yuri felt sickened at the presence of a suspicious mark of red lips at the end of the letters which seemed to be slightly too large to be a females.

“Ah that is the signature of the boss, that way we can tell the real letters from fakes easier”

Jarvis said when noticed Yuri’s disgusted expression.

“So it’s like a fingerprint..but more disgusting..”

Yuri closed the letter to evade having to look at the red mess a moment longer.

“Ah miss Yuri, would you mind if I ask a few questions? Since I have been instructed to aid you by the boss, I wish to clear some things that are bothering me?”

Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.

“Sure I guess..? what would you like to know?”

Yuri raised an eyebrow, curious over his questions.

“I heard from the boss that you successfully created a portal that transported a living creature, namely you. Why don’t you just make a portal back to Urnan if you being here is truly unintentional..?”

“Well..to be honest, I don’t really know all the restrictions of teleportation magic. Besides the portals need to be linked and although your teleportation circle is linked to one there, it’s probably a little small…”

She explained as best she could, but she only knew the basics and got by with her dagger and special runes, so there wasn’t much to explain beyond the obvious.

“I see..then if I send a folded portal through my smaller portal, you could use it?”

“Well..no..even if you send it through..t would probably mess up the mana of both circles..because of the interference?”

Yuri remembered accidental activating the feather fall spell because of the influence of the more powerful wind gust spell.

“I see..”

Jarvis sounded slightly disappointed that Yuri was staying.

“So what information did you need again?”

He hoped to finish this as quickly as possible so he could get back to work.

Yuri left the bar feeling satisfied with squeezing as much information as was possible out of Jarvis and headed towards Jacs mansion.

On the way there, she made sure to grab Galin, who she found passed put on the floor from drinking too much.

A few slaps and kicks later, Galin was awake enough to comprehend basic human language.

“Are you listening?”

She asked him while he was close to falling over again.

“We are going to meet your new employer, so sober up!”

She yelled at him. When he barely responded, she punched him in his large dwarf nose and made his open wide with pain.

“Much better, let’s go.”

A while later, which took longer than it should have due to Galin falling over repeatedly while walking, they finally arrived at Jacs mansions.

They were greeted by the butler with a rude “Hmph.” Who held his nose high.

“Well I don’t like you too anyway..”

She scoffed at the butler as she was led towards Jacs room.

The butler knocked on the door and opened it after receiving permission from inside. He let Yuri and the still swaying Galin inside whole giving them the evil eye.

“Ah welcome!”

Jac stood up from his desk when he noticed it was Yuri that had come to visit.

“I have the information, but before that, I promised this really convincing dwarf look alike a high standing job and making him part of the mission in some way in return for his help.”

Yuri kicked Galin’s shin and made him wake up from his daze.

“Ah! What? Hello..”

He nodded at Jac, who just tilted his head.

“…Are you sure..?”

Jac gave Yuri a complicated look while glancing at the swaying short figure.

“…Well, he’s usually more presentable than this. Without him I wouldn’t have gotten the information I needed..”

She sighed at her own words when she looked over at Galin, who seemed to swaying in non-existent wind while looking like something the cat dragged in. Which had been left to rot under the bed for a few weeks.

“I see..well if you say so..”

Straightening his face, Jac gave a professional nod.

“You seem very different from when I first met you..were you actually drunk back then..?”

remembering the arrogant and childish behaviour of Jac, was a complete contrast to the polite and calm Jac in front of her.

“Truth be told, I never drink anything that would impede my thinking capability..” He glanced over at Galin,

“And it is so that I tend to keep private and professional matters separate.”

(So him from the first encounter is his real personality, so to speak..)

She conveyed all the information acquired from Jarvis to Jac.

“…That’s amazing..with this much information we actually have a chance at getting into the impenetrable bank. With you on your side it should be even easier!”

Jack happily walked to his desk and started working. Drawing the different positions of the soldiers and planning strategies. Things that Yuri had no interest in.

“That’s good to hear, when can you get everything ready for the siege..?”

Yuri asked as she was walking out the room.

“…Probably..tomorrow.. have to act while the information is fresh…come back in the morning so we have some time to discuss things through..”

Jacs muttering was barely audible through the loud consistent noise of quill on paper.

“Alright, see you then…”

Yuri walked back to the inn to prepare for the oncoming battle.

Galin had collapsed on the floor in Jacs room earlier, and was forgotten as Jac was too immersed in his scribbling, and Yuri simply didn’t care.
