Bradley's sudden reaction left Zachary stunned for a moment, but he quickly chuckled.
"Felix? He was just a friend of mine."
Before he could finish, Bradley's sharp gaze locked onto him, and his tone became sterner. "Tell me the truth. Is he really just a friend, or are you trying to dig up information about Felix?"
How could Bradley not know his nephew's character? Zachary was notorious for stirring up trouble. As the commander of the Phoenix Legion, Bradley had dealt with all sorts of cunning individuals. He could easily tell when someone was lying. The room fell silent as everyone turned to watch, especially Benedict. He stood up and sterly said, "Tell your uncle the truth!"
A man of his experience could easily sense the seriousness in Bradley's demeanor.
Although Zachary was puzzled, he hurriedly told the truth, "Uncle Bradley, it's true. I wanted to find out more about Felix. We had some disagreements, but it's not a big deal. I saw with my own eyes that the Phoenix Legion took him away." Everyone knew about the power of the Phoenix Legion. Those being taken away rarely came out alive.
"How bad is your disagreement with Felix?" Bradley asked with a frown, waiting for Zachary's answer.
"Brad, who exactly is Felix? Is he really that powerful?" Benedict asked with a grave expression.
Bradley nodded. "Extremely powerful! If Zachary's disagreement with him is serious, even I might not be able to intervene."
Benedict's face darkened, while Zachary seemed unwilling to accept the truth.noveldrama
"Uncle Bradley, aren't you exaggerating? Even if he hadn't been taken by the Phoenix Legion, I dug up his background. His main supporters, Lord Kane and the Kinsley family, are both out of the picture now."
Zachary held back from saying what was on his mind. Even if they were still around, why should the Xanthos family fear them? It was something laughable.
"What a fool!" Bradley snapped.
His gaze grew even more serious. "Felix has been released without charges! I suspect at he has some connection to Ernest Holt. Do you think Ernest is someone you can afford to offend?"
Since Ernest visited the Phoenix Legion last time, Bradley knew he had other purposes other than meeting him. Based on what he discovered later, he was certain Felix and Ernest. weren't just neighbors. They had a far closer relationship. "Mr. Holt Senior?"
Everyone in the room gasped. They all knew Bradley's connection to Ernest and understood what kind of person he was.
Only Zachary still wouldn't relent. "No way, Uncle Bradley! What could Felix have done to be connected to someone like Mr. Holt Senior?"
Bradley couldn't help but laugh out of frustration. "Fine! I even suspect that Felix is connected to the Warlord of the East. But if you don't believe me, that's your problem. I've said all I needed to.
"If you remain this stubborn, don't expect me to attend your funeral."
Bradley stormed out, leaving Benedict in a panic. He grabbed Zachary and, in a fit of rage, kicked him hard.
"What an ungrateful fool! You won't even listen to your uncle? Would he lie to you?"
A connection to Ernest was already terrifying, and now, there was mention of the Warlord of the
force so mighty that even sacrificing the entire Xanthos family wouldn't be enough to save them.
Only
Only now did Zachary realize the gravity of the situation, and fear began to creep in.
"Uncle Bradley, I was wrong. Please... Please help soothe my situation with him. I didn't offend him that badly. We never even got into any physical fight. Please!"
Meanwhile, Felix, who was now driving alone, suddenly received a call from an unknown number. He didn't hesitate to answer it right away.
