At 3:00 pm, Felix and Jack sat across from each other in an all-you-can-eat barbecue restaurant. Jack grinned and commented, "Great minds think alike, huh? Neither of us had lunch, so this timing is perfect."
Felix looked puzzled and asked, "Don't you have work today?"
"Nah, I switched companies," Jack replied casually.
Felix was surprised, knowing that Jack had been thriving at his previous job and was on the verge of becoming a vice president thanks to Felix's influence.
Jack continued, "I just started at my new place this morning. I'm now the head of Stellar Group's Avesburgh office. It was a no-brainer, really."
Seeing FĂ©lix's stunned expression, Jack chuckled and placed a few pieces of meat on Felix's plate. "Eat up, Felix. I owe you a lot, you know."noveldrama
Felix was baffled, knowing he had not spoken to anyone about this. He wondered how Jack had managed to land such a position without connections.
After a hearty laugh, Jack explained, "The president of Stellar Group is chasing after you, and you're not even interested? Come on, Felix. Your standards are too high! As your best friend, I had to help out. I'm even writing up a strategy guide for her, including your preferred underwear material."
Felix's face twisted with amusement and disbelief. "Are you seriously selling me out like this?"
Jack rolled his eyes. "Come on! Sell you out? I get a career boost, and you get a hot lady. It's a win-win."
Just then, a woman walked by their table. Then, she suddenly returned and sat right next to Felix. She said cheerfully, "What a coincidence! We're even running into each other at a barbecue joint."
Though her looks were average, her figure and demeanor were impressive enough for Jack to secretly marvel at Felix's way with women.
"Hi, I'm Dora Clarkson," she introduced herself, extending a hand.
Jack quickly got up. "Uh, I need to use the restroom."
Seeing Felix continue to eat without acknowledging her, Dora grew frustrated. She leaned in, emphasizing her assets. "Hey, can't you at least look at me?"
Yet, he still did not respond. Dora decided to drop the bombshell she had been saving for tomorrow's meeting. She whispered, "I have information about a herb called Veilflower."
That did the trick. Felix immediately wiped his mouth and looked at her. "You serious?"
Dora was annoyed by his previous indifference. Sure, she was not the prettiest, but she had a killer body.
She huffed and said, "I'm not telling you now."
After that, she stood up to leave, secretly expecting Felix to stop her. She even deliberately slowed her pace, but Felix did not call out to her. This only angered her further, and she turned back to wait for him to emerge from the booth. Meanwhile, Felix had gone right back to his food, and his phone buzzed at that moment.
It was Vivian calling.
"Vivian, what's up?"
Vivian's voice sounded tense as she said, "Mr. Zeller, one of the chief leaders has arrived in Avesburgh. H-He's specifically requesting to meet with you!"
