Chapter 56

Chapter

56

In the car, Luisa and Thalassa had been driving in silence for some minutes before Thalassa asked, "So how are you feeling?"

Luisa briefly looked at her before focusing on the road. "Don't worry, I'm fine. Victor didn't hurt me."

"I don't mean physically," Lassa said tentatively. "Luisa, I know just how much you loved Victor, so that's why I'm wondering."

"Love? Did I truly love him?" Luisa smiled bitterly. "I think I was just in love with the idea of him. Brandon treated me like a princess but then he hurt me so much, so when I met Victor and he seemed so cool, I thought it would be different. Maybe they're not the problem. Maybe it's me."

"No, don't blame yourself, Luisa," Thalassa said and sighed. "By the way, what was Alden talking about when he said that he knows you don't want him close to you?"

Luisa winced as she responded. "The last time he came with Kris to the company, he tried to strike up a conversation with me but I was rude to him."

Remembering how she'd spoken with him, she felt so guilty now considering how he'd saved her from Victor.

"But why were you rude to him?"

Luisa grimaced. "Isn't it obvious? He's a friend of Kris's."

"Luisa, Alden is not a bad person. He has always been nice to me," Thalassa revealed.

She and Alden had never had much of a relationship, but out of all the people close to Kris, he was the only one who'd treated her with respect and like she mattered. She couldn't say the same for Kris's other best friend Henry The man had always disliked her, and Thalassa didn't know why.

"If you like Alden, then don't stop yourself for my sake. I have nothing against him," Thalassa assured her. Luisa's face turned pink with heat. "Who says anything about liking anyone? He just helped me, which I'm

I have grateful for, but that doesn't mean I like him. Besides, after having two messed-up relationships in a row, no interest in dating anybody right now."

After a moment of silence, she turned to Thalassa. "Enough about me. What's up with you and Clark? The way you danced with him was... a little too suggestive, if I'm being honest. Do you like him?"

Luisa held her breath because she feared the answer. Even though he'd never told her, she knew that her brother had feelings for Thalassa. If Thalassa noticed another man before him, it would be painful for Zeke, noveldrama

But to her relief, Thalassa instantly shook her head as she answered without hesitation. "No."

Luisa sighed. "I see. But Thalassa, don't you think it's about time you gave yourself another chance with another man? Someone who loves you and can truly make you happy. You also deserve to be happy. And I'm not talking about Clark." Thalassa's expression dropped into an exasperated look. "We've already had this discussion before, Luisa, and my answer remains the same. I am never going to give my heart to another man ever again."

Early the next morning, Millie sighed with exhaustion as she stepped out of the elevator. She hadn't slept early last night but had to wake up early to come and complete some reports she should've taken care of yesterday. At that time of the morning, only a few people had arrived for work. 1

Getting to her desk, she immediately went to work. She needed to finish it before Kris arrived.

About two hours later, she was finally done. Just then, she saw her boss walking out of the elevator with a gloomy look on his face. Millie shrugged since this wasn't the first time he'd come to work in a bad mood. Who could blame him with the kind of family he was living with? However, her heart skipped a beat when, without even bothering to look at her, Kris harshly said, "My office. Now."

And then he walked into his office. Millie's heart began pounding, wondering what this was about. Kris had never spoken to her like that before.

Dragging in a deep breath to calm herself, she got up and knocked on his door before entering.

"You called me, sir," she said slowly, getting more nervous as he turned his gloomy eyes to her.

"Is something wrong, sir?" she questioned, pursing her lips.

"That's what I want to know," Kris responded, his eyes boring into her. "Millicent, how long have you been working for Thalassa?"
