Renae bawled her eyes out. "I was worth 180 thousand dollars last time. Now, you ask for 500 thousand dollars.
"Today, I'm calling you Mom for the last time. From here on out, I'm not your daughter anymore, and you're not my mom." After saying that, Renae turned to Matthew. "Let's go. I can't stand being here for even one more minute."
Matthew felt heartbroken upon seeing this. He couldn't believe Renae had such a mother.
He was planning to retrieve Scholarly Tradition, but with how things had turned out, he couldn't bring himself to ask Renae for it. "Okay. Let's leave."noveldrama
Just then, Sandra grabbed Renae by the arm. "You're not going anywhere. I raised you all these years, so you can't just walk away."
Donna jumped in and held onto Renae's other arm. "What's wrong with you, Renae? Every family asks for a wedding gift, so why are you turning down money?"
Renae struggled hard but was no match for the two of them. She had no choice but to ask for Matthew's help. "Hurry up and help me, Matthew!"
Matthew's expression turned grim. He grabbed Donna's wrist and twisted it sharply.
Donna screamed in pain and let go of Renae's arm. After taking a few steps back, she shouted at Damian, "Help us out, Mr. Gabrielson! Get this dude out of here, or Renae might end up with someone else." Damian walked up to Matthew. "Listen up, you brat. I'm the mayor of this town. You better think twice if you think you have what it takes to go up against me for a woman."
Matthew's expression became grim. He yelled, "Scram!"
Damian raised an eyebrow. "Fine then. You want to speak to me that way. You're screwed. I'll make sure you can't get out of this town." With that, Damian pulled out his phone and started making calls. Seeing Damian calling for backup, Donna turned to Matthew and warned, "Just you wait! Mr. Gabrielson has his men on the way. You'll regret this."
Matthew's eyes turned cold. He swiftly raised his hand and slapped Damian across the face. It sounded as loud as a firecracker.
After getting slapped, Damian dropped his phone on the floor and stumbled back a few steps, struggling to keep his balance. Holding his face, Damian pointed at Matthew. "Are you out of your mind? How dare you hit me? You must have a death wish." With a thud, Damian was kicked and sent flying six feet backward, hitting the floor like a ragdoll. The floor shook from the impact. Damian shrieked in pain like a pig being slaughtered. His face scrunched up in pain as he writhed on the floor.
With a look of sheer panic, Donna confronted Matthew. "You're in hot water now He's the boss of Antler Real Estate and our town mayor. Since you laid your hand on him, you're asking for serious trouble."
Standing at the side, Sandra commented to Renae, "Look at how reckless a young man can be. He might get away with hitting someone else, but messing with Mr. Gabrielson is a different story. "If you're with him, you'll be caught in trouble too."
Renae wiped her tears and said
indifferently, Three days ago, he just beat up Gary Monroy, the district leader, even more badly than this. After that, Mr. Monroy didn't dare make a fuss and apologize to him. Now, it's only a town mayor What's the worst that could happen?"
Sandra scoffed. "What are you saying? Who in their right mind would hit Mr. Monroy? If someone laid a finger on him, they'd end up in jail for sure. There's no way Matthew will still be around here."
Donna sneered. "Do you take me and Mom as toddlers, Renae? If you want to make up a story, at least make it believable. There's not a chance someone like him gets an apology from Mr. Monroy." Damian held his belly, sweating from the pain. He knew Renae didn't fabricate the story. After all, he had just come back from visiting Gary and learned that someone had indeed beaten him up. Trying to win favor with Gary, Damian boasted that he had a few men to take care of the person who laid a hand on Gary.
Upon hearing that, Gary's face turned pale. He warned Damian that there were people Damian couldn't mess with and told Damian not to stir up trouble.
Back then, Damian was perplexed about who could strike fear into Gary like that. To his surprise, the culprit was actually Matthew, the young man who stood before him.
Damian realized he was in trouble. After getting up, he held his stomach and quickly made his way over to Matthew.
"My apologies. I didn't realize who you were. I'm really sorry. If you're still upset, feel free to slap me to vent your frustrations."
