Matthew went in behind Renae, feeling even more puzzled. Donna seemed pretty nice, so why was Renae so scared of her? Matthew entered the house after Renae and greeted Renae's mother and brother upon seeing them.
Donna sliced up some watermelon and asked Renae, "Who's this? Why don't you introduce him?"
Renae smiled and explained, "He's Marcus' friend. Marcus borrowed the medical literature from him, so he's here to get it back."
Donna's worry went away, and she became even more hospitable toward Matthew. "Since you're here, that makes you our guest. Have some watermelon."
Sandra Cox, Renae's mother, looked troubled. She was hesitant to speak and kept holding back her words. Meanwhile, Stephen Brown, Renae's older brother, just stayed silent at the side as he smoked. Matthew took the watermelon and ate quietly.
Sandra sighed and finally opened up. "Marcus has passed away for three years, Renae. Since you're still so young, it's time to move on."
Renae furrowed her brows. "How many times do I have to say it, Mom? I'm not thinking about marriage anytime soon."
Donna chimed in with a smile. "Keep an open mind, Reane. If someone great comes along, you shouldn't miss out on them.
"I know someone who's into politics and comes from a rich family. He owns a real estate company. Guess what? They have five cars and two villas. I heard even their dog eats beef every meal. "If you marry into that family, you'd be living a life of luxury."
Frowning, Renae coldly responded, "I already said I'm not interested."
The smile on Donna's face faded as she gazed at Sandra. "Renae is still young and doesn't know any better, Mom. You need to step in and talk some sense into her." Renae snapped, "Don't drag Mom into this, Donna. No one is going to change my mind."
Donna's expression instantly darkened. "I'm doing this for your own good, Renae. Mom is looking out for you too. We're your family, and we just want what's best for you. "You can't back out on this. I've already set everything up, and your date will be here soon. Whether you like it or not, you're meeting him."
What? How could they arrange a meetup already? Renae stood upz and snapped, "You didn't give me a heads-up! Who are you to set up a meeting? Even if you did, I'm not going."
Matthew was just watching. He didn't expect things to go this way.
Undeniably, Donna had crossed the line. Even though she was Renae's sister-in-law, it wasn't her place to decide who Renae should date.
Matthew looked at Sandra, hoping she'd speak up for Renae. But she just knitted her brows together and swallowed her words with a troubled look. Donna said sharply, "I've already let him know. He'll be showing up soon."noveldrama
Renae was upset. "Then I'll leave now."
Sandra suddenly shouted, "Stop right there. You can't walk away. If you leave and he gets here, what am I going to say? "We've already taken his wedding gift. Don't just think about yourself. Think about Stephen, me, and our family."
Sandra's words almost made Renae
burst into tears. "You want me to look out for you all, but did you really think about it in my shoes? Where did you put the book, Mom? Om leaving now."
Sandra scowled. "We've already accepted the wedding gift, so you have to meet him. We found you a rich guy so that you can live well.
"How can you be so thick-headed? If you don't agree to the marriage, you can forget about getting the book."
Renae looked at Matthew and
suddenly thought of an idea. "I'll be
straight with you. I've already got a partner, and it's this person right here. I'm not going on any more dates." en
