Matthew was pleased with Denzel's actions. "You may go now."
Denzel murmured in response and started walking out. After taking a couple of steps, he saw that Matthew was still standing there, so he reassured Matthew.
"Don't worry. I won't come back to turn off the gas later. I also won't stick around to put out the fire after you're gone, and I definitely won't be calling the fire department."
Matthew leaned down to grab the handcuff key from Everett's body and then made his exit.

On the sixth floor of Gembrooke Building, Rachel looked at the mess in the office in scowled. "What did Matthew get himself into? Who does he owe money to? His company was doing fine, and now look at how badly it's been trashed." Tracy shook her head. "I have no idea. What do we do now?"
Rachel pulled out her phone and went back to her usual act. "Call Matthew and check in on him. If those guys after the money answer the phone, tell them not to hurt him. We'll sort out the money."noveldrama
Tracy hummed in acknowledgment. She pulled out her phone to make a call when she saw Matthew coming through the door, so she put the phone away.
Rachel didn't know Matthew had returned. Upon noticing Tracy didn't make the call, Rachel pushed Tracy to hurry up.
"Call Matthew already. Find out how much that pervert is in debt. Seriously, he can't do anything right and tops the chart for owing money.
"How did he end up in so much debt with over one billion dollars in his hand and doing nothing with it? Was he gambling or what?"
Rachel was frustrated with Matthew. She aimed to expand the Carter family's business by ten times over the next three years.
It was a goal that was pretty much impossible, but Rachel had no choice but to push herself because she wanted to break free from the Wood family. Stopping three projects to raise money for Matthew had made it even harder for Rachel to shake off the Wood family.
The pain from that was as brutal as
a knife cut, making her almost lose it and shout at someone. However, her upbringing stopped her from doing so. Still, she couldn't help but
complain about it.
When Matthew stepped into the office, he saw Rachel's back and immediately recognized her. He was familiar with her curvy hips and those smooth, long legs from personal experience. Everything about Rachel reminded Matthew of their past intimate encounters. He looked at her with a mix of affection and yearning.
Matthew had complicated feelings for Rachel. She was the second woman in his life, and this experience was different from Tessa, his first partner.
When Matthew started his first business, he was swamped with work and felt pretty accomplished. He wanted a spouse to share that with, and Tessa fit the picture.
Matthew used to believe that if he did well in his career and treated Tessa well, she'd treat him the same. He never expected her to send him to jail and take away his company. Then, Matthew found Rachel as his second partner. He took his time and carefully looked into her character.
She was willing to be engaged with someone like him, who had just finished serving his sentence, for her grandfather's sake. It showed how much of a grateful person she was. The way Rachel treated Lorraine kindly showed that she was a truly kind woman.
With these two things in mind, even if their relationship didn't work out and they ended up breaking up, Rachel wouldn't end up hurting Matthew too much. That was why he chose her in the first place

In the end, the breakup proved Matthew's point. Rachel hadn't betrayed him in any way. That made her way better than Tessa.
So, Matthew felt a pang of sorrow
and pity after seeing Rachel. But, he soon heard her calling him a pervert and saying he couldn't do anything right. The worst part was that she assumed he'd been gambling.
Frowning, Matthew asked in displeasure, "Is that really how you see me, Rachel?"
