Brad exuded a thick murderous intent. "Just take Horace out. He turned against his own and crossed the line.
"When people abandon their duty to do someone else's dirty work, it means that they've gone rogue and therefore deserve to die." Even though Brad didn't speak loudly, his words evoked images of massacre and bloodbath.
Matthew took a deep breath. "Alright. I see. You just yelled a bit to scare off Gary, and now I'm the one sticking out my neck for you."
A diffident look flashed across Brad's face.
"You're talking about Gary, right? I'll get someone to deal with him. I'll make the call now. See you." With that, Brad ended the call before Matthew could say a word.
Holding the phone, Matthew fell speechless. In truth, even if Brad hadn't been using him, he would've done something about Gary anyway.
Matthew considered anyone who came after him an enemy. And when it came to enemies, he was getting used to striking them down without mercy.
Renae fixed her gaze on Matthew, her eyes filled with admiration. She'd always thought he was just some guy from the medical field. If he had any backing, it was purely in medicine. So, she was surprised when Matthew was connected to a big shot like Brad.
Right then, Renae found herself regretting not being more forward back in the private room. She came up to Matthew and patted her chest. "I was so terrified just now."
As her delicate hand struck her chest, it started to jiggle. The fear on her lovely face made her look so helpless that every man would want to step in and protect her. Matthew looked at Renae in a daze and comforted her with a smile. "It's all over now. No need to be scared."noveldrama
Renae felt a little dejected. When a woman was frightened, wasn't a man supposed to hug her and speak gently? But Matthew had just brushed her off with a light comment. She added, "Without you, I can't even imagine how things would turn out in the end. So, let me cook for you to show my appreciation. Stick around for a quick bite at my place."
Matthew pulled out his phone to check the time. There was still a while before he had to pick up Lorraine. Noticing Renae was already in the kitchen, he realized that he had started feeling hungry and sat down on the couch. Looking back, Matthew saw Trevor standing around and waved him over. "Why don't you take a seat?"
"Mmhm," Trevor responded.
He made his way to the couch and sat down with a commanding presence. Placing his hand on his knees, he sat upright with his chest out.
Matthew spotted how awkward Trevor looked, as if he was ready for military training. "Can you loosen up a little?"
Trevor looked himself over and looked up with a blank expression. "I think I look normal."
Matthew felt that Trevor was
ramrod straight, with his feet perfectly apart. As he rested his hands on his knees, his torse was stiff as a board.
Sitting as straight as an arrow, his e hair felt like a string attached to him. No matter how Matthew looked at him, he just seemed pretty awkward.
How did Trevor come to the conclusion that he looked natural? Matthew shook his head and stopped commenting about it.
Trevor hesitated for a moment and asked, "Are you into that widow?"
Matthew's cheeks blushed. "What nonsense are you spouting?"
All Matthew did was look at Renae a couple of times, and Trevor had made a big deal out of it.
Seeing Matthew deny it, Trevor
added, "Your eyes were practically
glued to her. If you don't have a thing
for her, then you're just being a perv."
Oh my goodness! Matthew felt a bit exasperated. Did Trevor have to be so upfront? Couldn't he just keep it between them as a fellow man?
Matthew was about to say something when Renae returned, so he quickly shut his mouth.
Holding the coffee, Renae walked right in just as she caught the last part. She casually asked, "Who's being a pervert?"
Trevor pointed at Matthew and said, "He's got some naughty ideas about you."
