Three days later in class Izumi was staring at one her normally good student sleeping in class. She sighed as she continued her lecture. At lunch she stood up and stared at Mio whose head was bobbing up and down trying to keep herself awake. She glanced at Eizan who was still dead asleep. She looked at Ome. “Sano wake up Mr. Hashimoto for me.” Ome turned and tapped Eizan on the shoulder.
“Wake up man.”
He slowly lifted his head and noticed the teacher glaring at him. He sat up straight. He looked at Izumi while he was still trying to process the situation. “Mr. Hashimoto and Mrs. Sakurai I need to see you two in my office. We need to talk about you both sleeping in class.” Mio’s eyes widened and she nodded. “Come to my office in fifteen minutes.”
The class looked at both of them. Everyone knew they had broken up and were wondering if a fight was going to start. After class was dismissed, they both slowly made there way awkwardly to Izumi’s office. Mio whispered to Eizan. “You got me in trouble.”
Eizan chuckled. “You got yourself in trouble.”
She puffed out her cheeks. “I would be fine if someone wasn’t coming over late every night.”
He smiled wryly. “Yeah, I’m sorry. You didn’t seem unhappy last night when we were making out in your parent’s backyard.”
Her cheeks turned red and she punched him in the side. “Baka.”
Eizan chuckled.
They made their way to Izumi’s office and knocked on the door. From the other side of the door, they heard Izumi’s voice. “Come in.”
They opened the door and took their seats in her opposite of their teacher. Izumi let out a long breath and clasped her hands together on her desk. “Would you two like to explain to me what’s going on. I know you two are still together. You think your being sneaky but I’ve seen you both coming out of an empty classroom twice now.”
They both stiffened up. Eizan and Mio looked at each other, blushed and then looked back at Izumi. They had been caught red handed. Eizan scratched his cheek. “Um, it’s complicated.”
Izumi leaned back in her chair and crossed her legs. “I’m sure it is. Why don’t you explain it to me.”
Mio looked at him with a worried look on her face. He reached up and patted her on the head with a small smile on his face. “It’s fine. Sensei is a good person.” He looked back at Izumi. “You are correct. We are still engaged. Just not officially at the moment.”
Izumi furrowed her brows. “Are your families against you being together?”
Eizan chuckled and shook his head. “Nothing of the sort.” He then spent the next few minutes explaining the situation to Izumi.
She stared at both her students and put a hand on her forehead. She thought to herself. “This is giving me a headache. I finally got him to participate and now this happened. Plus, now one of my star students is also causing problems.” She looked at Mio and then at Eizan. “Ok, I get it now. You are sneaking around to protect her. But don’t you think midnight meetups are a little…. How should a put this? Problematic.”
Mio and Eizan both blushed. Eizan spoke first. “What else could we do? We can’t meet up any other way. Besides, I wouldn’t think it would be as problematic as us living together.”
Mio hit him in the side. “Eizan, don’t say that.”
He shrugged. “She already knows anyways.”
Mio tilted her head. “Oh, yeah I forgot.”
Izumi was shaking her head. “You two are something else. But what I need now is for you two to stay awake during class. Can I get you to do that?”
Eizan shook his head. “Even if you say that I can’t sleep anywhere else. I can’t feel safe at home.”
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
“Could you at least leave your midnight rendezvous for the weekends?”
Mio and Eizan looked at each other and nodded. “Sure, we can do that.” They both responded in unison.
“Ok, now for the next reason I brought you here. Eizan when will you go back to the soccer team?”
Eizan frowned. “Technically I still can’t go back. But I would say I’m completely healed.”
Izumi stood up and walked to her office window. “That’s to bad. We seemed to have lost our star basketball player and we were hoping to get more interest in our soccer program.”
Mio got an upset look on her face. Eizan put his arm around her. “Could you please not bring up that bastard.” He glared at Izumi while comforting Mio.
Izumi stared at the couple for a second. It hadn’t been released to the press what had happened. She had no clue as to why Murata was gone. She knew they didn’t have the best relationship, but this reaction surprised her. “It seems something serious happened. Could you maybe tell me about it?”
Eizan sighed as he was rubbing the top of Mio’s head. “It might be to soon for that. Please, don’t bring it up around Ren Either.”
In a soft voice Mio responded to his statement. “Eizan, it’s ok. Tell her what happened.”
He got a concerned look on his face. “Are you sure? If you want, I can tell her later when you’re not around.”
Mio shook her head. “It’s fine.”
Izumi had a disgusted look on her face as he recounted the story. “Holy, hell. I can’t believe this wasn’t all over the news.”
Eizan shook his head. “We had it covered up to not hurt his family. The Murata’s are good people and they don’t need their name dragged through the mud because of their idiot son. They sent him to a boarding school as punishment, in Europe. He was also disinherited from his family. Frankly, he got lucky that he’s not in jail.”
Izumi was rubbing her temples. “Why don’t you two just pretend to make up and act as friends for now?”
Eizan shook his head. “Don’t you think that would be too suspicious?”
Izumi shook her head. “It happens all the time. Kids like you break up but still act cordially to each other at school all the time. That way you can interact at school and there is no reason to keep sneaking around like this.”
Mio was looking at him with an expectant look. He let out a long sigh. “Do you think that’s a good idea.”
Mio looked down. “It’s not a bad idea.”
Eizan shook his head. “You do realize if they figure us out, we might have to disappear to stay together, right?”
Mio nodded. “I think we can do it though. It’s not like you are being monitored at school.”
“That’s true. We have no indication that someone is spying on me at school.”
She grabbed his arm. “Please.”
Eizan patted her head. “Ok, but we might have to ease into it. We don’t want people to get suspicious.”
Eizan and Mio left the room after a few minutes of talking with their teacher. Izumi laid her head on the desk. She was exhausted. “That was too much. What the hell do I do in this situation? I could kill my uncle for talking me into teaching.”
After lunch class went on as normal. Mio kept glance at Eizan who was sleeping like normal. She thought to herself “How are we going to act like we're reconciling. Any way we do it, is going to be weird.” To her surprise at break, he stood up from his desk suddenly. He walked over to her desk and stood in front of her. A few of their classmates started whispering and Ren was glaring at him hatefully. Mio was staring at him with wide eyes. “I thought we were supposed to be inconspicuous.”
He had a serious look on his face. “Can we talk?”
Mio stuttered. “S-s-sure.”
To her surprise he didn’t try to drag her away but simply stood there. He started to speak and loud enough for others to hear. “I’ve been thinking after our conversations earlier. Things are still awkward and we are hurting our friend’s relationship. I know it might be weird for a little while but do you think we could start over as just friends. We don’t hate each other, so why does it have to be like this.” The class had become eerily silent as everyone waited for her response.
Mio was stunned. Her mind was racing. “God, why do you always have to do things like this.” She let out a long sigh and decided to play along. “I’m not sure. Don’t you think that it might be too soon?”
Eizan shook his head. “Why wait. I don’t want to drive a wedge between Ren and Ome.” Ren glanced at Ome with a concerned look on her face. “Plus, I think we might be making the atmosphere in class a little tense. So, what do you say?” He reached his hand out for a handshake.
Mio stared at his hand for a few seconds adding a little tension to the situation. In an exasperated tone she replied. “Fine. I think we can start over as friends. But this doesn’t mean I forgive you.” She grabbed his hand and shook it.
Eizan got a strange look on his face. “Damnit, why is she messing with me?” His lips raised into a mischievous smile. “On that note could you meet me after school? I have something else I would like to talk to you about, without so many listeners?”
Mio sighed. “Sure.”
“Feel free to bring Ren and Ome. This involves them anyways.”
Mio looked over at Ren and she nodded her approval. Meanwhile Minami had a big frown on her face. She was thinking to herself “I feel like he’s up to something. I really don’t like the idea of them getting close to each other again. I have to think of something soon.”
