Lunch can be dangerous sometimes

Lunch time came and Eizan was having a nice dream. Mio walked over to his desk with a smile on her face. “Wake up sleepy head it’s time for lunch.” His eyes slowly opened. He mumbled “An angel. Did I finally die and go to heaven?” Mio blushed. His eyes opened wider. “Oh, it was an angel.”

She smiled. “Just wake up, already. It’s time for lunch. You said we would eat lunch together this morning.” She frowned. “You’re not going to try to get out of it are you?”

He sat up and shook his head. “I’m starving. Just lead the way.”

She laughed at his half-asleep responses. “Come one Ren and Ome are already waiting.”

Ren and Ome both looked at each other. Ome frowned and whispered “They sure seem like their dating.”

Ren nodded and whispered back “Their almost too sweet to each other. It’s grossing me out. Maybe we should leave them and go eat by ourselves.” Ome laughed.

Eizan and Mio looked over at the two of them suspiciously. Mio asked “What are you two over there whispering about.”

Ren smiled “Nothing you two need to know about.”

The four of them went outside to the courtyard and sat at a table. Eizan looked around noticing the stares of many students. He grumbled “Couldn’t we have eaten in the library?”

Ren laughed “It’s good to get some fresh air every once in a while. Besides it’s best to get everyone used to us hanging out together. The stares will lesson if we just show off our friendships from the start.”

Eizan sighed and looked at Mio. She just smiled back “This always happens anytime I go anywhere with her.”

Sano was looking around at the angry glares from all the male students. “Why do I feel like I’m getting a lot of angry looks?”

Eizan laughed “Your just imagining things.” Ren and Mio laughed. They chatted and opened up their bento’s.

Ren’s eyes widened at the sight of Mio’s lunch. “Did he make that for you?” She nodded. Eizan had a proud look on his face. Ren looked over at Ome with an expectant gaze.

He laughed “Sorry, I can’t cook.” She sighed “Aww that’s too bad.”

Ome gave her a weird look “Why would I cook for you anyways?”

She pursed out her lips “Because I’m pretty.”

He smiled “I will give you that you are pretty, but I still can’t cook.” He looked across the table at Eizan. He gave him a strange look “If anything, he’s the weird one. Most of the time it’s supposed to be the girl making a bento for the boy. They’re doing things backwards.”

Ren was lost in thought for a second “Now that you mention it, they are doing things backwards.”

Mio and Eizan frowned almost simultaneously, they replied. “We are not.”

Ren and Ome burst into laughter. This only intensified the stares of the students around them. Ren fidgeted around for a second. “Sano who made your lunch?”

He looked down at the bento in front of him. “It’s just leftovers from dinner last night. I wasn’t home, so my mother sent them with me today. Normally I have to buy lunch at the cafeteria.”

Ren fidgeted around in her seat for a few seconds. She kept looking at her bento then at Ome. She motioned for him to lean in so she could whisper something to him. Ren whispered “If you’d like I’ll make you a bento for tomorrow.”

Ome’s eyes shot wide open. He stuttered “Uh… s-sure I would like that.” They both blushed and turned away from each other.

Mio thought “What the hell was that? Did he feed her a love potion or something? Where did the ice queen of the school go? Did he brainwash or blackmail her? I’m so confused.”

Eizan was smiling at the pair in front of him thinking. “I knew they would get along. She just needed someone she could trust. Ome might be the most honest guy I’ve ever met.”

Ren has been beautiful all of her life. She has been approached many times by people, who had hidden intentions. This has made her wary of almost everyone. It has made her cold towards most people. She uses it as a defense mechanism, until she gets to know someone well enough. For some reason she just felt comfortable around Ome. Eizan could see right through her. He was almost certain he knew the reason she acted the way she did. Ome is honest to a fault, making it easy for her to get close to him. Ome has no hidden intentions and wouldn’t even know how to hide them. That’s what Eizan likes about him too. Sano isn’t bad looking either, which definitely helps his cause.

Mio whispered in Eizan’s ear “What’s going on with those two?” He whispered back “I’ll explain it later.” She nodded.

The hateful stares directed towards Sano intensified. Ome felt a chill run down his spine. Eizan just smiled at his friend and wished him luck. He was very happy by this development. He was happy that his friend had found someone. He was also happy that Ren and Ome getting close would take attention away from Mio and him.

The four of them ate their lunches laughing and chatting like normal. The stares of there fellow students slowly focused elsewhere as they ate. They eventually finished eating they headed back to class to put their bento boxes away. The class after lunch was gym class today. After dropping off their stuff, they made there way to the gym. Eventually, they split and headed to their respective locker rooms. Upon entering Ome and Eizan were immediately met with glares from their fellow male classmates. A rather rough looking boy who plays on the school’s baseball team approached Sano. His name is Fujiwara Haru. “Sano, I would like to have a word with you.”

Ome smiled “Sure, what’s up Fujiwara?”

Haru asked in a stern voice “What’s your relationship with Shimada?”

Ome laughed “Were just friends.”

Eizan laughed “For now.” Ome shot him an angry look. If looks could kill Eizan would be dead.

“He keeps saying that. But I don’t think I have a chance. Why do you ask?”

Haru smiled angrily “I was just making sure you hadn’t started dating. Ren is to good for you. You should stay away from her.”

Ome frowned “Fujiwara are you crazy? Ren can choose to date whoever she wants. She’s just a regular girl. She’s not some goddess to be worshiped. Yeah, she’s beautiful, but she’s also stubborn, childish, and very soft hearted. You need to reevaluate your thoughts man.”

“Ome is right. You guys all see Ren as some kind of idle. You will never even be able to get close to her with that kind of attitude.”

Haru’s face grew angrier. “You two need to shut up before I shut you up.”

Eizan smiled a cold ruthless smile. His whole demeanor changed in an instant. Sending chills down Haru’s spine. “Please, don’t give me a reason to hurt you Fujiwara. I may not be willing to defend myself, but if you try to harm my friends, I will end you.”

Haru could feel something telling him to back off. “I’m giving you a warning for now. Stay away from Shimada.”

Eizan’s expression went cold. “Fujiwara, now I’m giving you a warning. If anything happens to Sano, I will destroy you and your whole family.” Haru gulped he could feel this threat was serious.

Sano put a hand on Eizan’s shoulder “Calm down buddy. Listen Fujiwara, you can come at me anytime. I wont back down for your pipe dream. If you have feelings for Ren then go tell her. I won’t stop you. Were not even dating, I have no right to dictate who she sees. But if you harm her in any way, I will hunt you down for the rest of your life.” Eizan had never seen Sano so angry. Ome’s resolve made even him a little scared.

Haru grumbled “You two talk to much.” He turned and walked away.

“I told you, you better start practicing martial arts.”

Sano tilted his head “I thought you knew.”

Eizan gave him a funny look “Knew what?”

Sano smiled “My family owns a dojo. I’m fairly sure I told you that, the first day we met.”

Eizan thought back to the first time he met Sano. “Nope, I don’t remember that. All I remember thinking is, this guy won’t shut up.” Eizan laughed.

Sano frowned “Yeah, I remember thinking you were a bastard.”

They both started laughing.

Eizan turned and looked at Ome “Why have I been practicing alone if my best friend has a dojo?”

Ome shrugged “I don’t know? You mentioned martial arts training the first day we met and you’ve barely mentioned it since then.”

Eizan smiled “From now on you’re my sparring partner. After I’m healed of course. I’m not even supposed to play soccer for another two and a half months.”

Ome frowned “Your still injured and you're still picking fights? What are you an idiot?”

Eizan smiled “Smarter than you.”

They both started laughing again.

The altercation with Haru made them late for gym. They got in trouble by the gym teacher. Mio and Ren kept giving them strange looks from across the gym. The boys and girls were split by gender. They were playing basketball today. Eizan regretfully had to sit on the sidelines because of his injuries. The girls were split into two teams and were playing each other on one side of the gym. The same could be said for the boys on the other side of the gym.

He sat against the wall and started to watch the others play. A few seconds after he sat down Mio approached him and sat down next to him. He looked over at her curiously. “You’re not going to play?”

She looked down at the ground “I’m not very athletic. So, I sat out the first round. I’m also horrible at basketball.”

Eizan giggled “Yeah, I’ve seen you play.”

She puffed out her cheeks “I’m good at other things. Just not sports. I’ve always been kind of clumsy.”

Eizan smiled “Can you dance?”

She tilted her head to the side “Yeah, my father made me take lessons. I needed to be able to dance at political functions. Why do you ask?”

He had a mischievous smile “No reason.”

Her eyes narrowed “You’re hiding something aren’t you?”

He reached up and tapped her on the forehead. “Maybe.”

She frowned “I don’t like secrets.”

He smiled “It’s not really a secret. You’ll find out later.”

She gave him a suspicious look “Can’t you tell me now?”

He turned and watched the boys play basketball. “I’ll tell you after school. People might hear if I explain it here.”

She sighed “Ok. After school then.”
