The next day Eizan left early in the morning telling Mio he had to run to his grandfather’s work for something. Mio looked at him suspiciously as he told her. She sat at the table drinking a warm cup of coffee. “What is he up to?”
Eizan was currently riding in a black car that picked him up. He was staring out the window lost in thought. A few minutes later he arrived at the office building that Mio worked at. He strode through the front waiting room past security without anyone stopping him. He rode the elevator to the top floor and went directly into Carter’s office. Sitting at his desk waiting patiently as he expected his grandsons visit Carter greeted his grandson. “Good morning.”
Eizan sighed and sat down on the other side of his grandfather’s desk. “So, what is so important that we have to talk about it in person?”
“Can you not even spare me a proper greeting?”
“Yeah, yeah, good morning. How have you been?”
Carter leaned back in his chair and chuckled with an exhausted look on his face. “I’m getting to old for this crap. It’s never ending. How about you?”
Eizan smiled. “I’ve never been happier.”
Carter smiled. “That’s good to hear. So have you told her yet?”
Eizan shook his head. “Not yet. She’s a little suspicious of the extra security. Besides that, I haven’t told her anything. It’s better not to worry her.”
Carter shook his head. “Have you at least told her about the move?”
Eizan chuckled. “Nope.”
“Do you plan to wait until moving day?”
“Nah, but I wanted her to enjoy her last few days in the apartment.”
“Please at least tell her about the move today. You don’t have to tell her you are being followed. But at least tell her about the move. For all I care you two can go back to the apartment after this is all over.”
Eizan laughed. “I doubt she will want to move back. She’s greedier than she acts. She didn’t have any problems spending your money yesterday.”
Carter shook his head. “That damned Alicia is teaching her bad things.”
From the other room a lady’s voice could be heard yelling from the other side of the door. “I HEARD THAT.”
Eizan and Carter looked at each other and laughed. “Does she have the hearing of a dog?” Eizan asked.
“She definitely has super human hearing.”
They both started to laugh. They heard something heavy hit the other side of the door. Alicia had thrown a paperweight for her desk.
After some idle chatting Eizan finally asked the question, he came to ask. “Do you know who is looking for me?”
Carter frowned. “My biggest competitor. He probably knows you are my grandson. Who knows what he wants from you but you two need to disappear for a little while.”
“I don’t get it. That man doesn’t even trade stocks. He makes cars and rockets. All his wealth is because of his companies. What could he possibly want from me?”
Carter leaned his elbows on his desk and clasped his hands together. “Honestly, I have no clue. The two that we have captured so far didn’t know why he’s having you followed either. All they were tasked with doing, is relaying your location.”
Eizan sat back in his seat and stared at the ceiling. “So how are we going to get to the new house without anyone knowing?”
A few minutes later Alicia burst through the door. “You two are a bad combination.” She glared at Eizan. “You need to go home and tell the sweet girl everything. If you don’t, I will call her and let her know everything.”
“Aww your no fun. I think she might like the surprise.”
Alicia frowned. “No woman likes that kind of surprise. You are just like your grandfather. You are always up to no good. Will you tell her or do I need to call her myself?”

Eizan raised his hands over his head in defeat. “Ok, ok, I’ll tell her almost everything. I won’t tell her how we’re getting there though. I want it to be a surprise. She’s going to freak out. It’s going to be great.”
Alicia sighed in defeat. “You really need to treasure that girl. I’ve seen how she puts up with your erratic behavior. Also slapping a girl on the butt in public is not acceptable behavior young man. You really need to be more conscious of your behavior in public. What are people going to think when you take over this company?”
Eizan got a mischievous smile on his face. “They are going to think exactly what I want them to think. It would be great if they thought I was just a crazy teen. It’s exactly what I want. The more they underestimate me the better.”
She frowned. “The company partners will not be happy.”
He leaned back in his chair. “I hope they underestimate me too. It’s the best way to pick out the bad actors.”
Her eyes narrowed. “So, what you are saying is that you are doing this on purpose?”
“I’ve been doing it for years. I’ve been acting like a regular teen for years now, just in case I wanted to take over the company. Also, I quite like the normal life. Honestly, if I could choose one or the other, I would live life as a heating and air guy. But we both know that’s not possible. This old fox would never let me go.”
Carter laughed. “You are my favorite grandchild.”
Alicia glared at Carter. “Did you know all of this?”
Carter shrugged. “Of course.”
“But didn’t you always say you never wanted to take over this company?”
“That’s the truth. I absolutely hate the idea of taking over this company. It sounds like a giant pain in the ass. Like I said I would prefer to live a normal life.”
Alicia shook her head. “You could live a normal life if you wanted to.”
Eizan glared at her. “Do you really think that’s possible? My mother has tried for years. But she keeps getting brought into the public eye. All the kids at my old school knew about my family. I tried hiding it but it was to no avail. They acted like they didn’t know but I could hear the whispers. At least my new school didn’t know anything for a while. Do you think it is possible for me to hide? Maybe if I changed my name and fled to some small town in the middle of nowhere. But what kind of life would that be?”
Alicia shook her head. “It would be a normal life.”
“Would it? I would live my life in fear. Fear that someone would find out who I really am. Fear that someone would hold me for ransom. People always look at me strangely when they see the way I do things. The only reason I got away with it for so long at my current school is because I slept most of the time. Even then it only took a year. At most I would get five years in a secluded small town before someone found out where or who I was. Sadly, our family has never had easy lives. That’s why we call it a curse. Grandpa, you grew up poor. Do you think you could have lived as a normal person?”
Carter put his hand on his chin. “Well, the only reason I was poor is because my father died young. If he had lived, I’m sure we would have been wealthy. But to answer your question, no I don’t think I could have lived a normal life. I never tried to be wealthy it just kind of happened. I was never normal even when I was poor. Trust me I tried and failed. Alicia did you know I gave all my wealth away in the beginning and started new?”
Alicai eyes widened. “You did what?”
Carter sighed. “I realized after I gained my first million that people treated me differently. So, I gave it all away. Suddenly all the friends I had disappeared. It wasn’t until I met my beautiful wife that I decided to make money again. I lived as a vagrant for three years. I moved from place to place until I found myself in New York city. That’s where I met her. A stunning woman was walking down the street in a blue dress. She didn’t even look at me the first time I saw her. I followed her to a nearby university. She was a student there. I immediately went to the dean’s office and proved my abilities. The look on his face was priceless. I didn’t even reveal to my wife that I was the vagrant she passed on the street until after we were married. I graduated top of my class to impress her without even trying. Otherwise, I probably would still be wandering to this day.”
“Are you crazy? Why would you do such a thing?”
Carter laughed. “Crazy? Yeah probably. But I did everything in the years that followed meeting her for love.”
“I don’t get it. Hasn’t your family been famous throughout history though?”
Carter nodded his head. “Yup, most of our family members are famous and if my father hadn’t died in World War 2, I’m sure he would have been famous. Sadly, he was drafted and died in an air raid. So basically, there’s no in between. My daughter has lived the most normal life out of any of us for generations. And even she can’t stop getting awards in the computer sciences.”
Alicia frowned and looked at Eizan. “But don’t you hate your grandfather?”
Eizan laughed. “No way? He’s just overbearing and a giant pain in my ass. I mean sometimes he makes me angry. But otherwise, we get along fine.”
“You call him a demon.”
Eizan stared at her with a blank look on his face. “Yeah, he is a demon.”
Carter frowned and scolded him. “I thought I told you to stop calling me that.”
Eizan started laughing. “You did. I spread it around as much as possible. I even got mother and uncle Micheal to start using it.”
Carter shook his head and Alicia just smiled at his absurd behavior. “You are so weird. Most people probably think you hate your grandfather.”
The blank look reappeared on Eizan’s face. “Yup.”
Alicia eyes narrowed. “Are you doing that on purpose?”
Eizan looked at Carter. “I see why you like her. She’s pretty sharp.”
Carter smiled. “She’s also hard working. It works out great for me.”
Alicia huffed and started walking away. “You two are impossible.” She slammed the door behind her.
They both watched her walk away with amused looks on their faces.
