Eizan is still being dragged by his ear as they rounded the corner “Mio please let go.” She turned back to him and gave him an angry look still holding his ear. “What were you going to do if I didn’t show up?”
Eizan looked away “Um.”
Still looking angry “Eizan what were you going to do?”
He hesitated “I probably would have gotten into a fight I guess.”
She frowned “You idiot, you’re in no condition to fight.” She lightly smacked him in his right rib cage. Eizan held his side and grimaced in pain “Why did you do that?”
She shook her head “To teach you a lesson. Now come one were going home. We will talk later.” She started to walk off. Eizan sighed he thought as caught up to her “I have a feeling I’m in for long night.” As they walked home, he could tell she was still angry at him.
He smiled at her “You know your cute when you’re angry.” She turned and angrily kicked him in the shin. He was hopping up and down on one foot. She glared at him, turned around and started walking again, her cheeks were tinted red. Eizan smiled and thought “Yup, I’m in trouble. Damn that hurt.” They continued to Eizan’s apartment building.
As Eizan’s apartment came into view she finally spoke “Hey, look there’s someone standing outside of your apartment.” Eizan looked up at his second-floor apartment door.
“It’s just one thing after another.” Eizan stopped walking “Why don’t we go out for dinner?”
She turned and looked back at him. “Why would we…” she stopped mid-sentence when she saw the reluctant expression on his face. “Eizan who is that?”
Eizan sighed “An annoying old man, I’d prefer not to talk to right now.”
Mio looked at him strangely “Eizan?”
He looked at the silhouette of the man standing by his door. He would recognize it anywhere. “That’s my grandfather.”
Mio frowned “That’s not very familial.”
Eizan laughed a little “Trust me if he’s here it only means trouble.”
Mio grabbed his hand and started to drag him to his apartment. “I’m sure it’s fine.”
“I have a bad feeling about this.”
“You worry too much.” She continued to drag him toward the apartment building. They climbed the stairs to the second floor and arrived to see a grey haired old American man standing outside Eizan’s apartment smoking a cigarette in an expensive business suit.
He spoke “My, my you two have gotten rather close in only a night.” Eizan and Mio where still holding hand, they immediately let go. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything. I just couldn’t wait for dinner Wednesday to come see my grandson.” Mio turned and glared at Eizan. “Did he not tell you that we are supposed to have dinner tomorrow? Tsk, tsk, tsk, you really should have informed her about it.”
Eizan glared at the old man “I had planned on leaving her at home so she wouldn’t have to deal with your antics.”
The old man started laughing loudly “Hahaha, still as stubborn as ever I see. He turned his gaze towards Mio “Hello, there young lady nice to finally meet you my name is Alexander Carter, please call me Carter.” He smiled a very cheesy smile, it felt fake to Mio.
She bowed and greeting him “Hi my name is Sakurai Mio, it’s a pleasure to meet you sir.”
He studied her for a second “You really are as well mannered as your father says.”
She looked at him confusedly “You know my father?”
He smiled mischievously “Of course I know your father. How else would I have made an offer for his daughter to marry my grandson?”
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Eizan’s eyes narrowed as he looked over at his grandfather “I guess my intuition was right.” Mio looked over at him with a worried look. “Grandpa do I look like the type of man who needs help with women?”
Carter’s smile faded “And what would you have done if she had accepted that Murata boys’ marriage offer?”
Eizan sighed “I would have respected whatever decision she would have made.”
Carter frowned “You would have let the only woman you’ve let back into your life leave you for a man you despise. Somehow, I highly doubt that.”
Eizan’s eyes narrowed and he had a slightly angry look “How do you know so much? Never mind why am I asking you of all people when I already know the answer.” Mio stood there with a slightly bewildered expression on her face.
Carter clapped his hands together “Now for the reason I came here today. Why don’t we go inside and have a discussion.”
Eizan sighed “Come on Mio, I have a feeling we need to sit down for this.” He grabbed her by the hand and unlocked the door and led them inside.
Sitting down around the small table in Eizan’s room. “So, what have you come here to tell me?”
“Now, now can you please get me some tea first, I am quite thirsty.”
Eizan sighed and stood up. “I’ll be right back.”
Mio was sitting there staring at Carter not knowing what to say. “Please forgive me for barging in on you two today. Normally I would never do something like this without calling, but my daughter is worried.”
Mio tilted her head “Mary is worried?”
Carter smiled gently “What mother wouldn’t be worried about a young man and woman sharing a one-bedroom apartment. I sure hope my grandson has been a gentleman.”
Mio nodded “He hasn’t tried anything.” She looked slightly disappointed.
“That’s good. His mother has raised him right, so he may be overly respectful is some regards. He can be rather disrespectful in other ways though. Let me know if he causes you any trouble.”
Mio nodded and frowned slightly; she was thinking back to the events that happened less than an hour ago. “He does like to get himself into trouble or more like trouble seems to find him.”
Carter laughed “Hahaha you are correct young lady.” She giggled a little.
Eizan returned with three glasses of tea. Carter sipped his tea. “So, grandpa how long have you been in Japan.”
Carter smiled “A few days”
“So, you were already here when we talked on the phone the other day.”
He smiled and nodded. “Now back to why I came here today. Eizan your mother is worried and asked me to come here a day early.”
Eizan looked at him a little confusedly. “She should have called me if she was worried.”
“It’s not really what you think my dear boy. She says this isn’t enough space for the two of you to live comfortably. So, we have decided, that in order to make you two more comfortable you will be moving.”
“What! You should have consulted me before you made this decision.”
Carter laughed “Who says you have a choice boy?”
Eizan looked at him angrily. “There’s always a choice.”
Carter laughed “I knew you would respond like that. I am going to give you one of my properties for you two to live in for the time being.”
Eizan scowled “And if we refuse?”
Carter smiled a cold smile “You may not know this but I am the new owner of this apartment complex as of this morning. If you do not willingly move, I will demolish this building.”
Mio’s eyes shot wide open “Y-you would destroy this whole apartment building just to get us to move.”
Carter smiled. Eizan looked at Mio and grabbed her hand under the table to calm her down. “Mio, I am sorry about his behavior, he has always been this way. He will do whatever it takes to win.”
She turned and looked at Eizan and thought to herself “so this is where he gets it from.”
Carter smiled “Young lady this may seem harsh but he won’t listen if I don’t go this far. You both will be moving this Saturday. Young lady, I have already informed your father and he has agreed with our decision.” He pulled a slip of paper out of his pocket and set it on the table. “Here is the address to your new apartment. It is completely furnished and there are two separate bedrooms. There will be a moving company here Saturday morning to retrieve all your personal possessions.”
Mio and Eizan looked at each other, they were both at a loss. Eizan sighed “I guess were moving, do you have a problem with this?” She shook her head. Eizan sighed “Fine we agree.”
“Good.” Carter stood up. “I will be going then. You two kids behave yourselves.” He turned and started to walk towards the door. Carter stopped and turned back to the couple, her reached into his jacket pocket, and tossed a box full of condoms straight at Eizan. Eizan caught the box with both hands and his eyes widened. “Just in case you didn’t buy what your mother required of you last night.” He turned and left out the front door laughing hysterically as the door shut.
Eizan looked over at Mio who was still slightly in shock. They both blushed and turned away from each other. Eizan stuttered “I-I’m sorry about that.”
Mio who was still looking in the opposite direction “I wondered what you were so secretive about last night.”
Eizan gulped “My mother made it a requirement for us staying together.”
