Kyosuke

Back in Kyoto Eizan and Mio are still sitting in the park. Walking down the street a young man carrying a guitar on his back is looking over at the couple. He’s dressed in a band t-shirt and ripped up jeans. He has a leather studded bracelet on his right arm and piercing in his ears. He mumbles to himself “Is that Eizan?” He walks towards the couple who are chatting to each other without noticing his approach. “Yo Eizan long time no see.”

Eizan looks toward the young man with large sideburns and a mohawk. “Kyosuke? Long time no see man.” Eizan stands up and extends his hand. Kyosuke shakes his hand.

“What’s up man are you back in Kyoto now?”

“Nah, just visiting.”

“Damn, I was hoping we could get the band back together. We really need a drummer.”

Eizan laughs “Sorry to bail on you guys. I haven’t played the drums since I left Kyoto. I’d probably play like crap.”

Kyosuke smacks him on the back. “Yeah, the man who learned to play drums in a week would play like crap.”

Eizan scratched his cheek. “I’m not that good.”

Kyosuke shakes his head. “You were awesome man.” Kyosuke looks at Mio sitting on the bench curiously. “Who’s this?”

“Oh, Kyosuke this is Mio, my fiancé.”

Mio blushes a little at the word fiancé. She stands up and bows towards him. “Hi, nice to meet you.”

Kyosuke puts his hand on his chin as he looks Mio up and down. He looks back at Eizan. “You really found yourself a good one didn’t you.”

Eizan giggles a little. “Yeah, I would say so.”

Kyosuke turns towards Mio. “If he gives you any trouble just hit him. This guy’s always causing problems.”

Eizan hit Kyosuke in the side “Don’t tell her that.”

Kyosuke burst out laughing.

Mio looked at the pair inquisitively “Eizan you used to play in a band.”

Kyosuke turned towards her “Yeah, your future husband here is an awesome drummer. He picked it up so fast it was unbelievable.” He sighed “It’s been a real challenge to find a new drummer since he left.”

Mio looked at Eizan with her eyes narrowed. “You never told me you were in a band.”

Eizan tilted his head to the side. “Where did you think I got the punk rock clothes from?”

Mio giggled “Honestly, I thought you were just weird.”

Kyosuke burst out laughing. “Yeah, he’s weird alright. He wrote most of our songs too. Without him there things have gotten a lot tougher.”

Eizan scratched his cheek in embarrassment. “I just wrote a few.”

Kyosuke got close to Mio “Do you want to see a video of our band.”

Mio’s expression brightened at the mention of the video. “Can I?” She looked at Eizan for approval. She seemed extremely happy at the thought of seeing him play in a band. He looked at her suspiciously.

He sighed “Fine, but we weren’t that good don’t get your hopes up.”

Kyosuke frowned “What are you saying we were awesome.”

Kyosuke brought out his phone and played a video for Mio and Eizan. Her eyes were wide with amazement as she watched the video. Eizan and four other band members were playing on a stage in what looked to be some underground club. There were people screaming and cheering as the lights to the stage illuminated the stage revealing the band. There was a blue haired girl singing and she was amazing. Her voice fit perfectly with the underground rock music they were playing. She was incredibly good looking too. Kyosuke was shredding on the guitar and Eizan was playing the drums expertly. Eizan was simply amazing at the drums he even had a small drum solo in the song. She noticed that Kyosuke was also pretty amazing on guitar. Their base player seemed to be much older than the others, somewhere in his early twenties. She looked up from the phone at Eizan. “I thought you said you weren’t very good?”

“Well.”

Kyosuke hit him on the back “He’s always like that. We were constantly getting gigs. If your boyfriend hadn’t left the band, I’m sure we would have had a record deal in no time.”

Eizan punched him in the side. “I think we still had a ways to go before we got a record deal.”

Mio giggled at their exchange. “Who’s the girl singing?”

Kyosuke and Eizan froze. Kyosuke looked at Eizan fearfully. “Does she know?”

Eizan sighed “There’s nothing to tell.”

Mio looked at them both slightly angrily “What are you hiding.”

Kyosuke smiled “That’s Emica. She has a huge crush on Eizan. I always thought they would date. But this guy never responded to her feelings.”

Eizan shook his head. “That would have only ended in heartbreak. She’s not my type. She’s an amazing singer though.”

Kyosuke sighed. “Please don’t ever let her hear that. She was madly in love with you and probably still is.”

Eizan shook his head “I have a fiancé now and it wasn’t going to happen to begin with. I feel bad but I hope she moves on.”

Kyosuke looked over at Mio. “He’s not lying. They never did anything. She would just constantly flirt with him but this guy never reciprocated. She was devastated when he moved away.”

Eizan looked over at Mio. “Like I said there was nothing to tell.”

Mio’s eyes narrowed and her aura was dark. “I’ll believe you for now.”

Kyosuke laughed “Girly you’re intimidating and that’s coming from a guy who hangs out in shady places.”

Mio looked puzzled. Eizan looked at Kyosuke “She really is, isn’t she.”

Mio pointed at herself “Me, intimidating?”

They both nodded and started laughing.

Kyosuke patted Eizan on the shoulder. “Well, I’ve got to get going. Band practice is about to start. They’re going to flip when I tell them I saw you. Give me a call sometime man. We have a lot to catch up on.”

Eizan smiled at his old friend “Yeah will do. Oh, right give me your phone number I threw my old one away when I moved.” Kyosuke and Eizan traded phone numbers and said their goodbyes.

Eizan grabbed Mio’s hand. “We have to go.”

Mio tilted her head in confusion. “Why are you in such a hurry?”

“If we don’t leave now the rest of them will come rushing over here any minute when they find out I’m back.”

Mio nodded and they started walking down the street again. “How come you never told me about being in a band?”

“Well… It’s kind of embarrassing don’t you think?”

Mio looked confused “Why would it be embarrassing? You were really good.”

Eizan smiled “Thanks, but it was just a faze.”

“You seemed to really enjoy it though.”

Eizan laughed “Yeah, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it. I slept in class all day so I needed to do something to occupy my nights. When I first started, I was kind of going through an identity crisis.”

Mio put a hand on her chin and thought for a few seconds “Yeah, that makes sense. So, you really are a delinquent.”

Eizan stopped and gave her a funny look. “I don’t think that makes me a delinquent.”

Mio giggled “You are out late at night playing with a band in shady night clubs and you don’t think that makes you a delinquent?”

Eizan shook his head “Nope.”

Mio just laughed. She kissed him on the cheek. “We will just agree to disagree.”

Eizan frowned then got an evil look on his face. “Would you like it if I dressed up like I did when I played in a band at night.”

Mio eyes darted all around as she thought about it and blushed. “Umm.”

Eizan started to giggle. “I’ll take that as a yes.”

Mio puffed out her cheeks “I didn’t say anything though.”

“Your eyes and body language betrayed you.”

She was not amused. He started pulling her along towards his old elementary school as she grumbled behind him.
