Chapter 9: Eve is a Prodigy

{Levi}

"Levi! It's about damn time you showed your face around here again!" Mom said as she hugged me as soon as I stepped inside.

It had been a while since I visited with my parents and I figured since Rachel and I split that now would be a good time to visit and explain everything that went down.

"Ah, yes I was beginning to think that you went into hiding or something like that," Dad said. He was sitting down at the kitchen on his phone looking at something and he looked up when I sat down at a seat across from him.

I raised an eyebrow. "And why would I be hiding?"

"First of all I heard that you've been getting death threats but then I figured since you hired security guards then you should be fine. Then I found out about you and Rachel splitting up, so I figured you might be hiding to nurse your broken heart," Dad said. He chuckled, "It's not everyday that my son gets dumped because his fiancé is a lesbian."

"But I also heard you already have another woman to take Rachel's place," Mom said. "Who is she? I want to meet my future daughter-in-law!"

I smiled. "That's what I came here to talk to you about. And I think you've already met her once or twice. Do you remember my personal assistant that I brought along with Rachel that day when we were looking at the invitations for the wedding?"

Dad smiled. "Oh yeah I remember her! I also remember George staring at her pretty hard when she walked in the door behind you guys." He paused for a moment and then his smile turned into a grin. "Oh don't tell me, my future daughter-in-law is your personal assistant!"

"Former personal assistant," I said. "Remember that security detail group I hired? Cornwall Security? Well, Evelyn quit being my personal assistant and started working for them."

Dad whistled, "Wow now that's something!"

"I bet she can kick my ass into next week any day!" I heard George say.

I frowned and tried my best to keep myself from punching him when he walked into the room. George narrowed his eyes. "Hello… Brother…"

I rolled my eyes. "Hello to you too!"

"How on earth did you manage to snag my Evelyn from me?" George teased.

I raised an eyebrow. "Your Evelyn?"

"Yeah my Evelyn! I saw her first and I was getting ready to make my move when you stole her from me!" George said with a smirk.

I knew he was clearly teasing me but I wasn't in the mood for that so I rolled my eyes again. "Seriously? Last time I checked you're not nine years old. Just because you saw her first doesn't mean she's yours!"

George held up his hands to say he surrendered. "Okay, okay I'm just teasing! Chill man!"

"Yeah, yeah whatever. Anyway, she's already mine. We already signed the marriage license but she won't officially be mine until after the wedding ceremony," I said.

Mom and Dad gasped and said at the same time, "Seriously?"

I nodded. "Yeah that's why I wanted to stop by and visit with you guys. Mom, I want you to come with me to go shopping for Evelyn's wedding ring. She doesn't have a ring yet because everything happened so quickly."

"Really? So exactly how did everything go down?" Mom asked.

I proceeded to tell her just about everything I could, leaving the part that Eve is a secret agent for the government out and she has mutant powers thanks to some government testing. Yeah that kind of threw me for a loop when I found that out. That makes sense because of how strong she is fighting in a ring and up against a bodybuilder at that! I didn't find all of this stuff out until after I signed the contract that included the marriage license in it.

Even though we're legally married I still want to have a ceremony to make it feel official. I want to make our relationship as real as possible.

After I finished telling everything that happened within the last week there was silence.

"Poor girl, from the looks of it she was literally raised in a cult! And her line of work was chosen for her," Mom said while shaking her head in disbelief.

I sighed, "Yeah I know. But whatever you do don't pity her, she hates it when people do that. It's going to be hard enough for her to fit into the high society life as it is."

Dad chuckled, "Yeah it's going to be a bit hard for me to hold back my papa bear instincts now that I know her background. Don't worry we'll treat her just we treat everyone else who enters into this family. She's a big girl and we'll treat her like one."

I nodded. I was going to say something else when my phone rang.

Dad nodded. "You might want to get that."

I answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Ah, Levi?" Ms. Terra said, "You might want to come home soon."

"Okay, why?" I asked.

"Eve's powers are acting up again," Ms. Terra said. "Don't worry I have her tied up with a silver chain so she's um… Somewhat calm for the moment. I think you can help calm her down further if you know what I mean."

My eyes went wide. "Wait, what did you do to her?"

"You heard me! I'll explain more when you get here!" Ms. Terra said.

Before she hung up the phone I heard Evelyn roar. "GET THE FUCK OFF ME!!!!"

I literally had to hold the phone away from my ear a little bit because of how loud she was. I put the phone back to my ear. "Okay then, I'm on my way."

I hung up the phone and looked at Mom. "Okay, so Mom I'm going to need your help picking out a ring for Evelyn just like you helped me pick out Rachel's ring. And I need to get home because something's going on with Evelyn."

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

"Alright then, give me a call when you want to meet up," Mom said.

I nodded. "Sure."

I gave Mom and Dad a hug and I was going to give George a hug but he just stood there and rolled his eyes. I shrugged and then turned around and left.

I hurried home about as quick as my driver could take me and once I got home I hurried down the hallway where Eve's room was. I walked even faster as if I was on fire because I heard Eve howling in pain and yelling at Ms. Terra to get off her.

When I got to her room I froze at what I saw. I saw Evelyn tied up in a silver chain on the bed and Ms. Terra sitting on her. Ms. Terra looked up and saw me and she breathed a sigh of relief, "Oh good you're here."

I nodded. "Okay, what's going on?"

"Remember when I told you about her Demon Power and what can happen if it acts up?" Ms. Terra asked.

I nodded slowly. "Yeah, is that what's happening now?"

Ms. Terra nodded. "That's pretty much it. As you can see I'm sitting on her to help her calm down. It's sort of… Working?"

Evelyn hissed in pain. Ms. Terra looked at her and frowned. "It's okay Eve. Once this phase is over with you should be able to control your power better."

"I hate you!" Evelyn growled.

Ms. Terra nodded. "Yeah I know you do. But when the pain is gone you'll go back to loving me again. You know you will."

I raised an eyebrow. "Is sitting on her really necessary?"

"Yes it is because if she's not in one spot her power could act up even more and things would be worse… A lot worse…" Ms. Terra said. When she finally got off the bed she made sure that the chain around Evelyn was tied as tight as it could go. She looked at me. "Okay, Levi I need to talk to you outside for a moment."

I nodded. Ms. Terra closed the door after she left the room. She walked down the hallway and motioned for me to follow her to the living room. She took a deep breath and let it out, "The power Eve is dealing with now, this isn't the first time she's dealt with it. As a matter of fact she was born with it."

I paused. "Huh?"

"Yeah she was born with the Demon Power. It went dormant after she turned one month old. And then when she turned seven it resurfaced," Ms. Terra explained. "Although according to Elder Lewis it didn't happen until after she pulled the trigger on her first killing assignment. It happened a week after her birthday."

I gasped, "Seriously? She killed someone on her seventh birthday?"

Ms. Terra pursed her lips and nodded. "Mhm. It was part of her training to become an Assassin. You might want to sit down for this story."

"Actually, let's go talk in my office that way I know no one's listening," I said.

She nodded. "Alright."

As we got to my office I locked the door and motioned for Ms. Terra to have a seat after I took a seat across from her.

"Exactly how was Evelyn born with Demon Powers? Is she not human?" I asked.

Ms. Terra snorted. "Oh no, she's human. Demon Power just happens to be one of the many abilities that an Agent can develop based on the testing that is done. Since Eve is the child of two Agents on one of the Agents had this ability it makes sense that she would be born with it. The problem that comes with that is she is what's considered a prodigy aka a natural born killer. Prodigy's can have a difficult life. Even though they're respected on the outside, on the inside their trainers usually treat them like dirt.

"Part of that treatment is sometimes they get beat up because of showing any type of emotion. From what I heard Eve wasn't allowed to play with any of the other children after her first killing assignment. A killing assignment is when an Agent who is an Assassin gets sent out to kill a specific target. Nine times out of ten the Assassin does their job and there's no evidence of the fact that they were there left behind.

"When Eve was born I was the first to notice that she had red eyes and red eyes aren't a regular color even for an Agent. And that meant only one thing; It meant that she had the Demon Power ability lurking inside her. The Elder's must've found out about this because they wanted to take Eve away from her parent's and place underneath a trainer who would raise her and teach her to control her powers.

"One of the Elder's objected to Eve being trained at such a young age to become an Assassin and somehow he was able to convince the rest of the Elder's let her have a normal childhood."

"So did she have a normal childhood?" I asked.

She nodded. "From what I know of, yes she did. She made friends and went to school like all other kids did. Until the age of seven of course. When she was still a child her powers went dormant. And then her Mom died in action on one of her assignments and her Dad walked out on her. The Elder's placed Eve in an orphanage and underneath a trainer. And a week after that Eve was taken on her first killing assignment and she was told to kill someone under her trainers orders. She pulled the trigger of the gun they handed her and her Demon Power acted up.

"Thankfully the Elder's know how to deal with this ability and from what they told me once they got Eve back home they had to tie her up with a silver chain and her trainer had to sit on her for at least a half hour until she calmed down at least. After that, they watched Eve like a hawk and it seemed that her Demon Power went dormant. Until now her powers popped up again.

"Although this time since she's married to you, Eve is more protected from the Elder's than she was when she was a child."

I smiled at the thought of being able to protect Evelyn from those bastards who are dead set on ruining her life just because of some power that she has. She didn't ask to be born like this. She was made to be like this and I completely understand why she doesn't want pity because her being the way she is is all she's ever known.

Ms. Terra sighed, "Look, I know you're excited by the idea of being Eve's knight in shining armor but Eve's not really a damsel in distress… Or she'd like to think she's not but she doesn't want pity. If anything she'll want to be viewed as your equal and not someone who needs to be saved. Just work on bonding with her when you two aren't working and don't worry, she'll be fine for the wedding and whatever honeymoon that you have in store for you guys."

My smile turned into a grin and Ms. Terra snorted. "Yeah something tells me it's going to be hard for you to get Eve into bed with you even if you are married to her. You want to give her an incentive to sleep with you."

I raised an eyebrow. "An incentive huh?"

"Or maybe even a challenge," Ms. Terra said. "Either way, you're going to have to find a way to bond with her."

I nodded. "I know."

"I think I shall take my leave now and you should go take care of your fiancé," Ms. Terra said.

I nodded again and Ms. Terra got up from her seat and left. I followed suit and went to Eve's room to check on her.

When I got back to Evelyn's room she was lying down on the bed still chained to the bed staring up at the ceiling. She seemed to be in a bit of a daze so I went and sat down on the edge of the bed next to her.

Sitting down on the edge of the bed seemed to snap her out whatever she was thinking at the moment. She looked at me and frowned. "Are you having any second thoughts because of being married to a mutant like me?"

I shook my head. "No, I'm not having second thoughts. I agreed to marry you because I like you. I've liked you since the first day I laid eyes on you. I also like the fact that you had your own set of boundaries that you refused to break so you wouldn't go out with me because of it. Remember when I tried to pay you to go out on a date with me?"

She chuckled, "Oh yeah I remember. I thought you were a misogynistic asshole! That was another one of my deal breakers and you doing that kind of broke the deal even though I did have feelings for you back then. This is going to be weird for me considering I never really thought you would go as far as you did just to be with me. And now that there's no boundaries I'm a little bit scared."

I paused. "Scared? Why?"

She nodded. "Because you'll see me at my worst and at my best. You'll know secrets that only a select few people know about. You'll see me for who I truly am… Who I was raised to be…"

I smiled. "Don't worry, that's exactly what I want to see from you. I want to see all sides of you just like you'll see all sides of me. I want this relationship to be as real as possible. And you know what? We'll take this one day at a time. We'll start now. I'll help nurse you back to health and while I take care of you we can talk and get to know each other. Does that sound good?"

Evelyn nodded. "Sounds like a plan to me!"
