Chapter 19: For a peace of mind

{Levi}

It was Monday and Ms. Terra had called me to meet her in her office at Cornwall Security.

"So what's going on?" I asked as soon as I sat down across from her at her desk.

"Well it seems that there might be a way to give you some peace of mind about Eve," She said.

I raised an eyebrow. "Seriously? And what might that be?"

"A tracking device," Ms. Terra answered. "I didn't realize that the Elders had this in place for Agents who marry outsiders. The tracking device will only allow you to see if Eve is on a mission or not. And when Eve is on a mission don't interfere! And it will also give you a status report on her current health condition is and what to expect when she comes home. For the most part Eve tends to come out of her missions relatively okay."

"Okay, so when can it be placed in her?" I asked.

"Tomorrow morning," Ms. Terra said.

I nodded. "Okay then."

Just knowing that I would have a way to keep track of Eve in general gave me a peace of mind.

I had been trying to appear to Eve for a long time now. I couldn't do it for whatever the reason and now I can. I'm going to tell her what my name is and get her to let me in so I can help her.

Apparently Eve has some sort of power that had me stuck to her from the very day she was born. Satan's assistant, who is also the Demon who guards the fifth gate of Hell has been looking for Eve for a long time now. He claims that Eve is his vessel but honestly, I think he's after Eve for something else.

Today I've been summoned by Satan's assistant to give a progress report on Eve. As soon as I entered his office I bowed. "Sir Jesse?"

Sir Jesse chuckled. "Please don't bow to me child. I'm not royalty like His Majesty Satan is. Come on, take a seat across from me."

I did as I was told.

"Now tell me what's going on with my Little Eve today?" Sir Jesse asked.

"Well I haven't really made much progress with making an appearance," I said. "About the only thing I've been able to do is appear to her in her dreams. I've tried to lead her to you in her dreams by making her sleepwalk but that hasn't worked."

He chuckled. "That's very creative of you! I don't think that's a good idea but nice try. Don't do that again please. I need you to appear to her naturally."

I nodded. "Okay, so how do I do that? I'm not getting anywhere with her so far."

Sir Jesse smiled. "My child I have just the thing to help you magnify your powers to connect with hers."

I raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What is it?"

He snapped his fingers and a bright ball of light appeared in his left hand. After a moment the ball of light disappeared and what was in his hand was a gold plated emerald jewel pendant on a gold chain. He handed it to me. "Put this on and keep it on at all times. When she gets strong enough to appear to me, then you lead her to the cave and not a moment before that, understood?"

I nodded. "Yes sir."

"Good, you may go now," Sir Jesse said.

I stood up and bowed. Then I left the room.

"Okay what's this all about?" I asked as I gave Mother Terra a confused look.

"A tracking device," Mother Terra responded.

I blinked. "A what?"

"A tracking device," She repeated. "It will be put into you today and it will help give Levi a peace of mind."

"Why?" I asked.

"He's your husband so of course he's concerned about you. Especially not knowing if you're on a job or not when you're sitting right next to him," She said.

I paused. "Don't I get a say in this at all?"

Mother Terra shook her head. "Nope. As a matter of fact it had already been decided by the Elder's before I informed Levi about it. And you know you can't go against what the Elders have decided."

I groaned. "Seriously? Let me guess this is going to be painful right?"

"Actually no, it's not," Mother Terra said. She gave me an amused look. "Unless you want it to be? Didn't know you had a kink."

I shook my head. "Uh no thanks, I'm good and from what I know of I don't have kink. And no, just because you're my boss doesn't mean telling you about my sex life."

She laughed, "Okay yeah I don't need to know that."

"When is this tracking device going to be put in me?" I asked.

"Now," Mother Terra said. She stood up from her seat and walked towards the door. "Follow me and I'll take you to a waiting room where you'll be put to sleep for the procedure."

I was led to a waiting room just like Mother Terra said. As I was sitting down a nurse came into the room and instructed me to put on a hospital gown and after I did that I was told to lay down and given a shot. Within minutes I fell asleep.

The next time I opened my eyes I found myself standing in a hallway. I looked around trying to see if the hallway looked familiar but I couldn't see anything except for the walls. There were no paintings on the walls, no doors either. As I kept walking a bunny rabbit appeared in front of me. It was the same bunny rabbit that I had been seeing in my dreams for a while now.

I approached the bunny rabbit and tried to show it that I wasn't a threat to it. "Hey there little guy, where's your owner?"

It looked at me and started hopping away. I followed it and paused when I saw it hop up to a woman, who was also the same woman that I've been seeing in my dreams lately. The woman had white hair and she was dressed in a long white gown.

I blinked. "Um, hello?"

The woman smiled. "Well hello again! I can't wait to see you when you're awake and not just in your dreams."

I raised an eyebrow. "Okay?"

She nodded. "Mhm! I've been trying to appear in your waking hours before but for some reason I haven't had any luck doing so. And no, before you ask I'm not telling you my name until I can meet you when you're awake. Unfortunately you're starting to wake up now. So maybe I'll see you soon?"

I blinked again. "Huh?"

"I'll see you later, it's time to wake up now," the woman said.

Before I could say anything else the woman faded out of existence and I woke up.

I sat down in the hospital room that Eve was in. The procedure to put the tracking device in her had been done and Eve was starting to wake up.

"Bunny rabbit," Eve muttered.

I paused. "Huh?"

"I wanted to see the bunny rabbit before I woke up," She muttered.

I bit my tongue trying not to laugh. "Um, what bunny rabbit? There's no bunny rabbit here. Come on now, it's time to wake up."

She opened her eyes and the first thing she said was, "Bunny rabbit?"

I couldn't stop myself from laughing. "Eve? Are you okay dear?"

I stopped laughing when she gave me a confused look. "Where am I?"

"You're in a hospital room because you had a tracking device put in you today," I said.

"Oh," She said. She tried to sit up and winced in pain. As soon as Ms. Terra entered the room Eve glared at her. "You're a liar!"

Ms. Terra paused. "Huh?"

"You said it wasn't going to hurt and I feel like I got hit by a bus!" Eve whined.

Ms. Terra snorted. "Yeah no, I didn't lie. I said the procedure wouldn't hurt but I didn't say what would happen after you wake up silly!"

Eve leaned back and groaned, "Can you at least make the room stop spinning? That would be great!"

Ms. Terra chuckled. "Yeah don't worry, you'll be given some medicine to help with that soon. And you'll be kept overnight for observation."

"Oh," Eve said.

Ms. Terra turned to me. "Levi, I need to talk to you for a little bit. Don't worry, it won't be long."

I nodded and I leaned over and kissed Eve on her forehead. "I'll be back. You get some rest, okay?"

When I left the room Ms. Terra escorted me to an office just down the hallway. We entered the room and I sat down across from her. She smiled and took something out of a drawer underneath the office desk.

It was a small device that looked like a cell phone.

"This is the device that links to the tracking device that's inside Eve," Ms. Terra explained. She pressed a button on the device and it turned on showing a map that would give you directions to buildings and street signs, etc. There was a small black dot that was marked as 'A. 36.'

I raised an eyebrow when I saw that. "A. 36?"

She nodded. "Yup! Short for Agent 36. The name you know her by when she's on the job. If you top this dot here, it'll show you a picture of Eve."

Ms. Terra tapped the black dot on the screen and it showed an image of Eve sleeping on the hospital bed.

"However, if Eve is on a job the device will automatically give you an alert and you won't be able to see anything through the camera. Once the job is over you'll be able to see what condition she is in and as I said before, most of the time Eve comes out of her missions mostly unscathed," Ms. Terra explained.

"I see," I said.

Ms. Terra handed me the device. "Everything's all set as I told Eve she'll be kept overnight for observation and if everything's fine in the morning she'll be good to go. And you're more than welcome to stay overnight if you want?"

I nodded. "Yeah I planned on staying the night anyway."

"Alrighty then, let's go check up on Eve," Ms. Terra said.

She didn't have to tell me twice because I stood up and walked out of the room as fast as I could.

I'm starting to get really annoyed with only being able to contact Eve in her dreams. I keep wondering if I should try a different approach but I'm kind of stumped by this. Then I remembered Sir Jesse's necklace that he gave me and I sensed that maybe, just maybe Eve's husband might be able to see me since he doesn't have any abilities like Eve does.

Now that I remembered Sir Jesse's necklace I figured that I'd try to contact Eve's husband (I found out his name was Levi) first and then try to reach Eve through him.

It was late at night and I entered Eve's hospital room. I smiled when I saw Levi sleeping on the couch next to Eve's bed. My pet bunny rabbit named Rex was by my side once again. He's always been a big help to me when I'm trying to contact people who are still alive.

I picked Rex up and put him on top of Levi's chest and whispered, "Okay Rex, do your thing."

A bright light appeared and disappeared in a second. Rex just sat there staring at Levi until he slowly opened his eyes.

"Hello? Mr. Levi, wake up…" I said as I gently poked his shoulder.

"Eve? Is that you?" Levi mumbled.

"Nope, I'm not Eve, but I would like to have a word with you," I said. "Please wake up."

Levi sat up and looked around. His gaze looked down when he saw Rex sitting on his chest. He blinked. "What the hell?"

"Shhh!" I said, "You'll wake Eve up."

He looked around and then got up from the couch after placing Rex on the floor. He reached out his hand towards me and brought it back to him when his hand went right through me.

I shook my head. "Before you ask, you're not dreaming. I've been trying to contact Eve in her waking hours for a while now. At least her Demon Power hasn't gone dormant again. And at the moment that's a good thing because she's going to need all the help she can get. That's mostly because she's a vessel for Sir Jesse! Royal Advisor to His Majesty Satan and Guardian of the fifth gate of Hell!"

Levi gave me a look of disbelief. "Seriously? Is this some sort of joke?"

I shook my head again. "Nope! This isn't a joke. I need to be able to contact Eve while she's awake and when that happens, I need her to let me take control every once and a while. I'm going to tell you a story and you might want to sit back down for this."

Levi sat back down on the couch and I told him about how Sir Jesse became the Guardian of the fifth gate of Hell. I told him why he was looking for Eve. He wants Eve to be his vessel. Once I finished telling the story Levi had a look on his face that told me he didn't know what to think and I don't blame him. I mean, I'm a demon and I want to bring Eve to be stronger so she can be a demon's vessel. Eve needs this demon in order to save the world and not just from a meteorite shower that's going to collide with earth in a couple of years.

"So what's your name? I need to know in order to be able to convince Eve that when she sees you she doesn't freak out and think that she's seeing things," Levi said.

I told him my name and he smiled. "That's a lovely name for a Demon!"

I snorted. "Well honestly I think humans have a rather misguided perception of what demons really are. But that's a story for another day."

He nodded. "I see."

I smiled when I looked over and saw that Eve was starting to wake up. I also hoped that my plan would work and I would finally be able to see Eve during her waking hours and not just when she was asleep.
