{Eve}
The second wedding ceremony was really different from the first one. Instead of just being simple I walk down the aisle and meet Levi at the altar ceremony. It was a group of soldiers in three lines side by side walking down the aisle in front of Levi and I. There was another group of soldiers in three separate lines side by side marching behind us as well. It was as if they were determined to make sure that we made it to the altar at all costs.
I found this rather amusing considering Levi and I were already married. But I'm going to assume this is all a part of protocol. Once we got to the altar the soldiers that were in front of us and in the back of us went their separate ways. The group of soldiers in front of us marched to the right of the aisle and stood in attention in one line and not three and the soldiers that were behind us went to the left of the aisle and did the same thing.
An older man who was probably old enough to be my grandfather stood at the altar dressed in black robes that had an insignia of a purple flower inside a circle on the front of them. His gray hair was combed back and tucked underneath his black beret hat with the same insignia that his robes had on.
The old man smiled at Levi and I. "We come here today to celebrate the union of Prodigy Evelyn Reid and Mr. Levi Harriman. As you all know before the ceremony a contract is signed. So they are married on paper. So objections are prohibited!"
The crowd was silent. It was so silent that you could hear the crickets chirping outside the ceremony hall. The old man cleared his throat and continued, "I, Elder Williams shall proceed with the vows to make this union not just on paper but set in stone." He turned his attention to me. "Do you Prodigy Evelyn Reid take Mr. Levi Harriman to be your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to uphold the contract and do the duties in this marriage that you have agreed to do by signing it?"
I smiled. "I do."
Elder Williams nodded and turned his attention to Levi. "Do you Mr. Levi Harriman, do you take Prodigy Evelyn Reid to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to uphold the contract and do the duties in this marriage that you have agreed to do by signing it?"
Levi smiled. "I do."
"I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may now-" Elder Williams was cut off by the sound of a bullet whizzing past him and grazed his ear.
"Levi no!" I said as I pushed Levi out of the way of Elder Williams who promptly drew his gun and returned fire. There were a couple of screams from the crowd and I'm going to assume they were coming from Levi's family considering they're not Agents.
"What's going on?" Levi asked.
"No idea, but we need to take cover now!" I said.
I kept hearing sounds of gunfire and once I was able to get Levi to take cover behind a wall I tried to figure out how many people were shooting at each other. The ceremony hall looked like it was a battlefield. There were soldiers fighting to the right of me and the attackers were shooting at the soldiers while hiding behind the benches. Thankfully the soldiers who weren't fighting were able to escort Levi's family along with the rest of the guests who weren't able to fight out. When I saw that had happened I took my veil and tiara off and set them to the side. I set the bouquet of flowers that I had next to the veil and tiara.
"Thank goodness I didn't choose a dress that had a train on it!" I said. I turned to Levi. "Do you know how to shoot a gun?"
Levi nodded. "Yeah I do."
"Good," I said. I put my hands together and a flash of light happened. When I pulled my hands apart, a pair of semi automatic handguns appeared. I made sure that when I made these guns that they would be loaded and ready to go. I handed one of the guns to Levi. "Don't shoot until I say so."
Levi nodded again. I wasn't expecting Levi to cover me amongst the gunfire so I stayed as close to the wall as I possibly could. I had to protect Levi. If it were just me and I was on a mission I would be a little bit reckless about my safety. But I was with Levi so I couldn't be reckless this time.
I stepped out from my cover and shot at the first person who fired shots at me.
"Come out, come out wherever you are Prodigy Evelyn!" I heard a voice say. The voice sounded familiar but I couldn't quite place it. I looked to the right of me when I saw someone fire at me.
My eyes went wide when I saw who it was. "Charles?"
Charles was my first friend that I had made when I got dropped off at the orphanage. I remember that night that I was crying and felt so alone. All of that changed the next day when Charles decided to sit down next to me in the cafeteria and declared that we were friends. We were the best of friends until after we graduated from boot camp and he disappeared.
Charles smirked when he saw me. "Well congratulations on your wedding day! Although I'm kind of jealous it isn't me who's your husband. I can change that. And be by your side just like old times."
I scoffed. "Uh no, I'm perfectly fine with my husband, thank you very much! And who do the fuck do you think you are barging in at my wedding guns a blazing as if I'm some damsel in distress that needs to be saved?"
"Of course you do! Surely you don't have feelings for this guy do you?" Charles sneered.
"Actually, yes I do have feelings for him," I said. "And I don't need to be saved!"
Charles shook his head in dismay. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. Do you realize how brainwashed you are about how reality actually is? Think about it this way, how many people have you killed Eve?"
I paused. "Huh? What are you talking about?"
"How many people have you killed?" Charles asked.
I shook my head. "I don't know. I lost count after twenty. It's all a part of the job."
I looked over at Levi and instead of looking terrified he was smiling! He was smiling at me as if he was proud of me. That confused me a little and I decided we were going to have a little bit of a talk about that if we made it out of here alive.
Charles scoffed, "You see that's the problem here. The Elder's have got you and everyone else involved in this stupid place brainwashed. Cult mentality at its finest! You know what's funny about this?"
"What?" I said.
"From what I heard you don't want to be an Assassin but yet you'll have no problem killing someone to meet the objective of your mission. Isn't that something?" Charles said.
"Being an Agent doesn't always involve killing people. Yes, I have killed plenty of people but that doesn't happen on every mission. When you're an Assassin, you kill someone every mission! And there are twice as many missions that I would have to go on than I would as an Agent," I reasoned.
He snorted. "But you still have to kill people on a regular basis don't you? Or are you afraid of having to kill someone every single day? Because from what I know of Assassins go on missions everyday and hardly ever get a break. Unless they're injured or something like that." He took out his gun and pointed it at me. "I'm going to give you a choice. You can either leave with me here and live a life of freedom and do whatever you want with your life. Or you can stay here and I kill both you and your husband. Because if you stay here, you will become an Assassin!"
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
I didn't hesitate with my answer. "I'm staying here with my husband."
He shrugged. "Okey dokey then. Once I finish taking over this place I'll be sure to give you a proper burial."
He pulled the trigger and shot at me six times and every bullet hit the mark. The last thing I remember was Levi shouting and mind numbing pain shooting through me. Then before the world went dark my last thought was that I didn't get to tell Levi how much I loved him.

"NO EVELYN!" I shrieked as I saw Charles open fire on Evelyn shooting her six times in the chest.
Before Charles could fire his gun at me someone put a bullet in his head. His lifeless body fell to the ground. Somehow, Agent 60 and Agent 47, who I learned later that their real names were Evan and Daisy, got to me right after Eve was shot.
"Don't worry Mr. Harriman, she'll be fine," Daisy said.
"How?" I yelled, "How will she be fine she's been shot in the chest six times! It'd be a miracle if she can come back from this."
Daisy smirked. "Why Mr. Harriman, did you forget that Eve isn't a normal human?"
"We'll need to do CPR right here until the medic team gets here," Evan said.
"Right, one session of CPR for mutants coming right up!" Daisy said.
"Daisy! Now is not the time for jokes!" Evan scolded. He looked at me. "Mr. Harriman, please lay Eve down right over here and we'll get to work!"
I held onto Eve tighter. "But-"
Evan gave me a pleading look. "Please?"
I sighed and I figured that I could trust Evan and Daisy to at least try to revive my wife. So I did as I was told.
Evan let out a sigh of relief. "Alright let's get started."
He took out a pocket knife and got to work digging the bullets out of Eve's chest. "Good it looks like none of the bullets have made any exit wounds. So these wounds should heal up just fine…"
I looked at Eve's chest and sure enough the wounds healed up. That gave me some hope.
"Alright Mr. Harriman, you might want to take a step back," Evan said.
I paused. "Huh?"
"You need to take a step back unless you want to get electrocuted!" Evan said.
I nodded and did as I was told. Evan took his pocket knife and stabbed Eve with it. I wanted to stop him from doing that but I held myself back because I knew Evan knew what he was doing.
"Clear!" Evan said as he pulled out the knife quickly and once he did that Eve's body shook. He stuck his index finger into the knife wound to keep it from healing up. "That's it Eve! Fight! Fight to live! You can do this!" He stabbed her again after taking his finger out of the wound. "Clear!" He did the same thing at least eight different times until Eve opened her eyes and started coughing.
"Eve!" Evan said as he patted her back helping her breathe better.
Once Eve caught her breath she looked at Evan. "Let me guess, CPR for Mutants 101?"
Evan snorted. "Yup! CPR for Mutants 101! Welcome back to the world of the living!"
Eve burst into laughter at that joke. I gasped, "Eve! You almost died and you're joking about it? Are you kidding me?"
"Levi!" Eve said. She went to stand up to go to me but she sat back down. She looked like she was disoriented a bit.
So instead of her coming to me, I went to her and pulled her into my arms. "Yeah, you might want to take it easy. You were just brought back from the dead after all."
Eve laughed a little but didn't say anything else. The Medic Team arrived and looked Eve over and checked her vitals. One of the team members looked up at me and said, "Mr. Harriman even though Prodigy Evelyn seems to be fine we need to take her into infirmary. And you need to go with us."
I nodded in agreement. There was no way that I was letting my wife get hulled off to the infirmary alone. Evan put a hand on my shoulder. "It's going to be fine. Let's go."

I woke up to the sound of beeping and at first I thought it was my alarm clock until I slowly opened my eyes and saw that it was the sound of different machines that I was hooked up to. The last thing that I remembered was joking about being brought back from the dead by Evan and Levi holding me in his arms before handing me off to the Medic Team so that they could get me to the infirmary.
"Le… Levi." I croaked.
I let out a sigh of relief when I saw Levi's worried expression. "Evelyn! You're awake! Thank God!"
"Levi? What's going on?" I said.
"Don't worry you're at the infirmary and they've been doing some tests to try and figure out if your abilities are unstable or not," Levi said.
"What!" I said. That was when I noticed that I was tied down to the bed. "Why am I tied to the bed?"
Levi sighed, "When you were brought here you passed out and your powers went out of control. They even knocked the power out for a couple of hours until your powers were contained."
My jaw dropped. I knocked the power out? What the hell?
Levi's eyes went wide. "Eve, take a couple of deep breaths… Everything's going to be fine."
"How do you know?" I growled. "I mean look at me, I'm tied to a hospital bed-"
Without warning, Levi reached over and kissed me. Whatever anger I had, melted away for the moment. After the kiss I blinked. "Okay well that's a good way to calm me down."
Before Levi could say anything we heard a voice go, "Evelyn you're awake! And already kissing your husband I see."
Levi groaned, "Seriously George?"
I laughed as George walked into the room. He took a seat next to Levi and as soon as he sat down his mood went from playful to serious. "What the hell happened back there? And why are you tied to the bed?"
I hesitated because I still wasn't sure why I was tied to the bed. "I have no idea why I'm tied to the bed."
George raised an eyebrow. "Seriously? I was so scared for you when they brought you in on that stretcher you were unconscious. Then as soon as they put you in the room and closed the door you started screaming and demanding to get out. It took eight different people, a combination of doctors and nurses, to hold the door shut! After a moment or two when you calmed down a couple of doctors went into the room with an iron chain and tranquilizers!"
My jaw dropped and I was at a loss for words. If my powers were acting up that bad that could only mean one thing. My Demon Power was out of control. Or it was out of control at that moment. It seems to be fine now.
"Alright Prodigy Evelyn- I mean Mrs. Harriman let's get your vitals checked and hopefully if the doctor clears it you'll be able to at least get untied from the bed," I looked at the doorway to see a young woman dressed in blue hospital scrubs and a stethoscope hanging around her neck. Her eyes went wide when she saw George and I could see it in her body language that she was unsure of how to talk. I don't blame her considering we're still at the compound and there are outsiders here other than my husband.
The nurse raised an eyebrow and motioned towards George. "Common Outsider?"
I nodded. "Common Outsider."
She sighed and muttered underneath her breath, "Okay then cryptic it is."
The phrase Common Outsider refers to someone who doesn't know what really is going on in the compound. Most of the time it's because they're just visiting and a lot of what happens is only explained to an Outsider once they sign a contract.
I couldn't help but be amused about the nurse's irritation of having to use cryptic language around George but he wouldn't be able to make any sense of what was going on without knowing the full story anyway.
"Anyway, let me get your vitals," The nurse said. She went over to the machine that was monitoring my heartbeat, my oxygen levels, and my blood pressure. After she jotted a few things down she shook her head. "This isn't good."
I frowned. "What's not good?"
The nurse looked at me. "When was the last time you had a VP Evaluation test done?"
I gulped. "The last one I had done when I was twenty-two."
She went over to the door and pulled out my medical record and flipped through it. "Okay looks like that was when number nine happened."
I nodded. When I turned twenty-two I developed my ninth ability and it was the ability to control wind. Every time an Agent develops a new ability they have to get a VP Evaluation Test done. What that is is an Evaluation test to figure out how strong your abilities are and figure out a way to help an Agent control their abilities if they are out of control. The letters VP are shortened for the words: Very Painful. So the real name for the test is the Very Painful Evaluation Test. I would find humor in that name but I don't because the test is indeed very painful and it lasts fifteen minutes but it feels like it lasts forever. It's fifteen minutes of mind numbing pain.
Levi gave me a look of concern. "Eve, what's wrong? Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?"
"Let's say the VP Evaluation test is very painful! It lasts for fifteen minutes. I have a feeling that the doctor might recommend it. It's not pleasant but it's something Agent's have to do to make sure they're up to par," The nurse explained.
Levi flinched and the nurse gave a look of sympathy. "Well let me go talk to the doctor and I'll see what he wants me to do."
With that, she left the room. Moments later she came back and said the thing I was hoping that she wouldn't say, "Unfortunately the doctor wants to go through with the test…"
