Memories of a Distant Other

Memories of a Distant Other

'What problem is it now?' With one last thought, he felt his consciousness fade.

----

"Haah!"

Feeling as if he'd gone through a war or two, Isaac was exasperated. However, he seemed to be somewhere he had no recollection of. Even in his two lives, however, he'd never seen such a magisterial palace, like the one he was currently seeing.

Entering the regal palace, he suddenly realized something.

He didn't feel the solid touch of his foot landing atop land, at this sudden realization, his eyes darted downward, however, he only saw a golden ethereal, even transparent torso.

Along the outer edges were black tints, however, even those were surrounded by a royal purple.

Evidently, he wasn't in his body, nor was he in someone else's.

Nonetheless, he suddenly heard a noise, and for a strange reason, he felt as if the person in front of him was important.

With raven black hair and crimson eyes befitting that of a maddened beast, the very expression on the man could cause many to feel anxious.

The pure and unadulterated indifference.

Following the strange man, they both arrived at a regal golden double door, and remembering that he was in a palace, he realized the man was most likely entering the throne room.

'Is he the king of this palace?'

With no doubts, he was someone befitting that title. Isaac could only guess how strong he was based on the aura of pure dread surrounding him at all times.

Specifically, the aura of death.

Given view of the throne room, which he guessed correctly, was a room built entirely of gold.

The room itself boasted regality.

Nonetheless, the man in front was unfazed.

However, he was staring at something else entirely.

The imposing king with golden hair reminiscent of the sun itself.

With an expression that had no emotion, he called out to the man in front of him.

"$&#@&!"

Hearing a strange curse fly with ringing in his ears, even though he himself didn't have any currently, he didn't understand what was just said.

He then realized that perhaps this was in the past, maybe future, and he couldn't understand their language, nonetheless, the ringing was odd.

However, his eyes narrowed at the black-haired male.

Specifically, his words, that he perfectly understood.

"Arthur, are we truly fighting against them?" With his indifferent facade falling, anger and madness stood.

"&#@&!, you should understand by now, our planet will not face extinction without a battle!" The man, which Isaac now knew was Arthur spoke out, with clear pride in his voice.

However, Isaac was truly confused.

He could understand them, even though he didn't know their language, however, Arthur's first word seems to always be blurred from his mind, he simply can't decipher it unlike their other words.

With context clues and quick thinking, he guessed that it was the name of the man adjacent to Arthur.

'Why? Is his name somehow cursed? Forgotten?' With his thoughts running wild, guessing via the numerous literature he consumed, he tried to find an answer.

"The blood that has stained my hands were fought with valor and belief, Arthur. If I knew this would be your choice, I would've never sworn my sword to you." The man said, completely in disbelief at the king he once served with pride.

Storming off, he muttered a few last words.

"I will fight, Arthur. However, for the first time in my lifetime, I won't fight for you, but for myself and &#@$*."

Feeling the tension in the room, he heard the strange ringing once again, and with that he had no clue if his earlier guess was correct.

Guessing it was another name, however, he didn't mark off his guess just yet.

Nonetheless, as soon as the man couldn't be seen by his improved vision, he felt as if he was being sucked into a vortex.

'Ugh! Not again!'

----

Gasping desperately for breath, Isaac once again felt his flesh and the solid collision between the great earth.

However, disregarding the unruly beating of his heart and the sweat accumulating on his forehead, he grinned.

'I'm an Expert Class magus now?!' Feeling the immense purity of mana pulsing and purifying his body, he somehow, in circle terms, was a 3rd circle mage.

Nonetheless, he quickly went to take a shower.

----

Turning on the faucet, he felt the quick rushing of water brushing down his spine, all the way down to his legs.

He felt no change, however, he had no doubt something great occurred.

Not only did he rank up, something that took him around a month with no resources, instantaneously, he felt as if his mind and body had grown sharper as well.

When he thought of something, whether it was to move, he moved. It was as if it was more in tune after the sight he saw earlier.

Letting out his aura, he felt as if he was hundreds, maybe thousands of times weaker than them.

However, that was them just unconsciously releasing their aura, it wasn't even their complete and peak strength.

Suddenly, he felt as if his progress was too slow.

He didn't want to train for decades to reach one thousandth of their power.

"System, is the problem regarding my soul any better?" With him improving his base power, he knew something regarding that memory was key.

However, he didn't know.

As a sort of clue, he asked the system a question.

[Yes, however, I will continue to advise that your previous planning shouldn't yet be implemented.] Replying back, he was given information.

'How is that "memory" somehow fixing my soul? Healing it? Merging it?' Isaac mind continued to stumble, as his time passed in this new world of magic, nothing but problems continued to appear, and answers were rare.

He was growing tired of it all.

"System, show me my status."
