What I hate about the Auto Battle is that the System takes away all the control.
Everything, including my ability to speak. And she won't listen or talk to me unless I say cancel.
The first wolf she kicked in the face? That overgrown doggo stays down for good. I had no idea she could do that, that beast must be half a ton, though it's skin and bones.
It was the largest of the pack, she knew where to start.
I wouldn't go anywhere near it, but she knocks it out in the blink of an eye and sprints towards the next one.
I'm a spectator during the fight and can't decide who to attack when to run, or what the priority should be.
Thank God, at least the System knows what she's doing, most of the time.
She throws the second wolf into the air before the beasts even realize we're here.
They still focus on the three running from them, and we clear a perimeter around them.
No matter how many opponents, she's fast. Efficient.
I can't believe she froze up fighting the First Bride who — although powerful — was a single, old hag.
Now fighting two dozen huge grey wolves means no problem to her.
And that's the good part of this function. I'd have shit my pants already, and ran like hell, — yes, run, because she doesn't let me teleport. These monsters look deadly and ferocious.
The third wolf lets out a painful whimper when my elbow lands behind its head.
They only notice us now, adjusting their formation, and pulling back.
The runners keep running, whether they see me or not. I don't know who they are, but we focus on the wolf threat and let them go for now.
The wolves are the real threat. And the System is confident she can deal with them.
She calculates an efficient path to tackle the most dangerous ones and acts on it.
All that without consulting me first. I only realize it's calculating something from the split-second pauses. And it's crazy fast.
If she decides to attack someone I don't want to, I won't have the time to stop her, even if I cancel the Auto Battle.
If she can't reach an opponent with a single, graceful leap, she teleports.
She's still reasonable, and won't turn this into a massacre.
After the first few strikes, even I can tell, she could kill all the beasts without an issue.
Instead, she works to scare them off, targeting the pack leaders first. I approve.
Wild animals or not, I don't want any unnecessary bloodshed.
They can go if we won't eat them, and they are no longer a threat.
The only thing, I care about is that they don't run towards our little camp with the kids.
It's not like I know where it is. Every time the System teleports it's like those blindfold games spinning around. The three newcomers break out of their circle.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
After that, the System only has to 'convince' two more wolves to stop, and they orderly retreat.
Even they realize how wide the gap between our powers is. I have no idea.
I'm still struggling to comprehend the whole situation. Before I can get scared of the wolves when they're gone, realizing before me, that the odds are against them.
Only two remain. One of them is the largest of the pack that the System knocked out first.
The other tried biting me, though I only noticed when the System snapped its neck.
Was it a minute this time? Or only half?
And it's already over because she disengages the Auto Battle without asking.
I almost collapse when I regain control.
The strain of her lightning-fast movements catches up with me, and I almost throw up.
"This is why every inch of my body hurts after you take over." A little grumbling helps to take the edge off.
Which reminds me, wasn't that girl covered in vomit? Who the hell are these guys?
[Notice: The only bloodline known for their purple hair is from the dynasty of the First Bride.]
The First Bride? Wasn't she blonde though?
[Answer: She is old. Her hair lost its color. After her necromantic rejuvenation, her purple color might return over time.]
"Ugh, those words. I'm too dizzy for them right now." And the First Bride fought the monsters, why is her descendant with them?
[Notice: The First Bride doesn't have descendants. It's her dynasty that rules Nordhaben.]
That didn't answer the question.
Damn it. Now I have even more. How far did we teleport from our camp at the swamp?
This place looks like it's on the other side of it.
Between the marsh and the lake, which is quite far.
And knowing the System, she will refuse to take me back, so I'll have to walk.
[Suggestion: Running would be more appropriate if you want to catch up with the victims.]
I hate the System so much. But she's right, I better catch up if I saved them, and find out who they are. But not before I put the two dead wolves into my inventory.
I won't let their deaths be in vain.
They have some nice-looking pelts intact, thanks to my bare-handed takedown.
Even if they look malnourished, their meat might come in handy too.
With my 18 DEX, it's easy to catch up, even if I'm out of breath.
So are those guys, stopping to cough their lungs out once they realize the danger is gone.
Except for that purple-haired human girl. She takes this opportunity to throw up again, and it's not pretty. The frilly dress must have seen better days.
It's ripped in a few places and is now covered in her previous meals.
Her small group doesn't have anything on them, other than the clothes on their backs.
And from their smell, they must have been on the move for a while. System, can I make a change of clothes from the pelts?
