My fight with the First Bride finally convinced the Orcs that I was the Goddess.
How do they know about it? As it turns out, Mabel didn't stay put by the lake.
She climbed onto the hillside and watched the whole thing unfold.
She even put a wild spin on the story, but I won't correct her about it.
It's worthy of a fantasy tale, and I don't like to be at the center of attention, but she helps me a great deal.
"She commanded the Demon Lord's Champions against the evil First Bride. Her Gargoyles overwhelmed them, but she cut one in half only by looking at it."
Okay, that last part is true. I lucked out on that one. But the rest is utter bullshit.
And why does she start the story with the last act? Plus what's this about Champions?
I don't know what happened, or the parties involved, so I'm curious about the real version, but I have doubts about her.
We're back in the mess hall, or so I'm told.
While she's spoon-feeding me delicious meals, she boasts about my exploits.
I busy myself with chewing, and pretend she's telling the truth, but I'm cringing hard.
"So did the Demon Lord reconcile with us?" Sorry, my mouth is full, so I can't answer. Anything I'd say could lead to a disaster if it hasn't already.
I'll leave it up to Alex to untangle this mess once she's back.
Since I was out for a whole day, it won't be long until my week passes here.
Thank God, Omerta is still out cold.
The Orcs of this tribe know her, and it's not even that simple.
"THANK YOU FOR SAVING THE LIFE OF MY LITTLE SISTER!" Here we go again, back to square one.
I can't see them, but I can tell by the voice that Hana is down on their knees.
They did not give up the chase.
The pair followed us but lost our tracks thanks to Mabel's navigation skills.
When the battle started, they saw the devastation and arrived at the scene right as things wrapped up.
After my willing hostage explained the situation, they brought us back to the camp.
Their Shaman — Gitaut — immediately treated us both, and I don't mean me and Mabel. Omerta was in bad shape too.
The witch I 'used' during the fight was none other than the puppy girl's role model.
Not only that, she was the Standard Bearer's sister. How small this fantasy world can be?
And how much did the little rascal see?
So far she remained silent about the unorthodox method I've 'commanded' the Champions.
I'm sure, the witch will have something to say about it, so let's hope she needs more time to recover. I need to think and my head is full of useless crafting knowledge.
Thank you for the big nothing System.
"I can't believe you have sacrificed your sight to clear our tarnished reputations. And we almost turned against you." This sounds like Charlotte.
The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
Yeah, whatever you say, let's go with this version.
"It's all right, Vice Commander." I force it out through bites to break the awkward silence. "It's my fault for testing you with such transparent behavior."
I learned my lesson, act more arrogant, like I own the place.
Alex does, and I got a glimpse of what she could do, so I must behave like someone who could wipe this village out whenever.
"Yeah, Charlotte, that wasn't very nice," Mabel adds, hugging my side. "She told me she had anemia and you two were so mean to her."
"Amnesia." I correct her without thinking.
Right. I did tell her that, but will the adults buy it too? As gasps come from every corner of the mess hall it might not be the best idea.
I can't make out their murmurs. Everyone talks at once before the Vice Commander finally settles down by my side.
"This makes our sin even worse. I had no idea." The Orc Chieftain notes, so does it mean it worked? How far can I push it?
"As I said, don't worry about it." Let's think of something quick.
I don't want to antagonize them, but acting too humble won't work either. This put me right in the spotlight as someone with zero social skills. The System stays quiet too.
"I remember you guys were always loyal to me, and I appreciate it." Let's go with this, and then cover my tracks.
I don't need anyone's help coming up with excuses. That's what I was best at in my previous life. The other specialty was running away, though those skills need some touching up.
"My behavior might have changed, but can you blame me?" Let's hope they can't.
Yeah. If they bought the amnesia story, I could use that to get some basic info. I don't know anything about the current state of their world. And even less about what happened before the Goddes fled.
"A decade passed, and I still couldn't recover all my memories."
"So how much do you remember?" This sounds like Hana. They calmed down at last?
What should I say? I don't remember jack shit because it's not me, but I can't tell them that.
"Assume I'm a blank canvas, and tell me your side of the story." This seems like the safest option. It's about time I put the pieces together.
The First Bride dumped so much info on me during her villainous monologuing and I didn't catch half of it.
My main goal is to survive this week until Alex picks me up and then live my life as if nothing happened. Still, it might help if I know what I got myself into.
And well, that's not the whole truth. It's not like I want to forget about everything. I want to remain close to the owner of this amazing body if possible, and sure, this adventure had its fun parts.
Why not try to enjoy it even more?
