'When will this war end?'

It was the question I have asked myself for decades. I have fought demons and seen the suffering they have inflicted. Because of this war, billions have died.

I hated it. I wished for it to end. I would be more than happy to sign a peace treaty that would signify the end of the war. But I knew humanity would never accept it, not to mention the demons who we've been fighting for centuries.

"Honey, we have to go, the commander is calling for us."

My husband called out to me. Mitchell Storm was known as the Divine Healer - the greatest doctor and healer in the human domain. He can perform miracles - being able to cure every known disease, restore someone on the brink of death, and could even revive someone who has died depending on how long they've been dead.

I exited my tent and met up with the commander.

My husband had returned from a mission and was recovering his mana and my comrades were on other missions. Together we were called the Hero's Party. We the humanity's strongest combat force consisting of 5 SS ranks.

S ranks and above were strategic weapons. They are known as one-man armies or army killers. It is practically impossible to kill an S rank without having an S rank of your own. Losing one is always a devasting blow to one's side.

Outside the commander's tent, I could see people being treated and others mourning their friends' death. This was a result of a confrontation that occurred recently.

'I could have just wiped out the opposing army with my light rays.'

"Rebecca, stop blaming yourself. We need you at full power to kill the SS rank demon. As much you hate it, your life is worth much more than theirs."

"..."

I knew what he was saying was right. But I felt it was too selfish of me. Thousands were dying just so I could be at full power.

"Commander, have we located where the demon is hiding."

"Yes ma'am."

He then pointed at a spot on the map.

"How many enemies?"

"There is the SS rank demon we were looking for as well as 4 S rank as well as over 100 A ranks."

"The A ranks won't be any hindrance to me, but S ranks might be slightly troublesome."

I wasn't being arrogant. It was just a fact. Only a strong SS rank could kill me. Nothing else.

"Do you want me to come with you?"

"No honey, you need to recover your mana. I heard you revived an S rank and tens of S rank seeds."

S rank seeds were A ranks with the potential to become S ranks. Not everyone could make the leap and it took a lot of talent and effort.

"I'll be on my way now."

"Ma'am do want any backup?"

"No, that won't be necessary. Good soldiers would die needlessly."

I then immediately used {Light Transmutaion}. It was one of my strongest abilities that allowed me to transmute my entire body into photons temporarily and move at lightspeed.

In less than a second, I arrived at the location that the commander mentioned. If a normal person was here they would see this as a normal forest, but my senses picked up multiple presences.

They were getting ready to ambush me.

"How ridiculous."

I couldn't help but mutter.

{Infrared Burst}

I started glowing and unleashed a wave of energy devasting 50 kilometres radius of forest around me. I emitted a wave of infrared light and the ground turned to magma because of the heat.

All the A ranks and below died.

"It's an honour to be targeted by the Mage Empress."

The SS rank demon spoke. The S ranks had their weapons drawn, ready to move at the SS rank's signal.

"I prefer my other title; The Hero. Would you mind surrendering so I can give you a painless death?"

"Unfortunately, I am going to kill you or die trying."

I knew they wouldn't surrender. It was just a formality.

The S ranks immediately attacked. They moved extremely fast, easily bypassing the sound barrier.

But as someone who could react at lightspeed, I could easily dodge. Though I could only move at lightspeed when activating {Light Transmution}.

My purple hair fluttered behind me as I fought the demons. Though they held the numbers advantage, I was winning.

I soon baited an S rank demon into attacking me. The SS rank noticing this attempted to warn him, but it was too late. I immediately sliced his head off killing him.

All living beings possess two main weaknesses. First is the heart. This is what allows someone to produce mana and destroying it would cripple the being, killing it.

Secondly is the brain. This is what allows being to produce thoughts and destroying it means your will is destroyed. Destroying either of them is a death sentence.

Over the course of 15 hours, I slowly killed the S ranks, leaving me and the SS rank demon. Though on the outside we were both uninjured, if one looked closely, they could easily tell I was winning.

A condition for someone to be classified as an SS rank is to know the technique {Full Body Regeneration}. It is a technique that allows someone to regenerate from any wound such as regrowing limbs and even restoring entire organs (except the heart and brain).

However, this technique costs a lot of mana to use, meaning that if you injure them enough, they would run out of mana.

After having limbs cut off several times, the demon was running out of mana.

The demon I fought used the solid attribute and specialized in moving the ground around us and causing earthquakes.

He was an extremely powerful fighter, but he couldn't beat me.

"Let's finish this."

The demon nodded. He knew he was losing and this was his only chance to win. I decide to use one of my strongest techniques.

"{TECTONIC CRUSH}!"

The demon shouted his technique out.

The ground around me started sinking, dragging me into the ground. Mountains moved and the earth shattered. It looked like the end of the world.

"{Heaven's Judgement}."

I then softly called my technique to counter his.

When someone reaches S rank, they bring their concepts into reality. My concept was {Justice}.

The power of this technique on a specific target depends on my view of them and whether they are evil or not.

Though I didn't believe demons were inherently evil, they were opposing humans and massacring us. This made them evil in my eyes. It didn't matter who was right or wrong, this was my justice.

As an SS rank demon, he has murdered many humans and caused misery. This made the power of my attack at its peak. I swung my sword down, a purple light disintegrating everything in the way until it hit the demon.

In the aftermath, there was a massive cut in the ground, stretching many kilometres long. An over 200 km radius around me became a dead zone because of the fight. With damage extending even further from that.

The demon died in my attack with no trace of its existence remaining. I confirmed it after I noticed his mana signature disappear and checked it with my infrared vision.

I then used {Light Transmutation} to arrive back at camp and collapsed onto my bed. Though I comfortably won, I exhausted a lot of mana and sleeping was the fastest way to recover it.
