My Life After Death
First Mission [2]

First Mission [2]

As I was watching the deal I heard someone climbing up.

'Shit, someone's here.'

I hid, then quickly took him out, making sure no one noticed his death. In the carriage, I could see various women, ranging from around 13 to 25.

From my senses, they weren't anything special, just eye candy for boys in Troy's gang to play with. The human domain has a massive problem with slavery and trafficking. Actually just crime in general.

This mostly stems from the human-demon war. Most of the slaves are war orphans or people captured from bandit raids.

Along with watching Misa and Troy, I was also watching the guards. They all carried guns ready to shoot at a moment's notice.

Guns that shot physical bullets wouldn't harm anyone above rank. I could even survive getting shot multiple times. However, with that many bodyguards, it would quickly drain my mana and I could die from a stray shot.

I decided to reduce the number of guards. I went to a rooftop where three guards were standing watch.

{Mana Slice}

AN: There is no chanting. Any technique will be put in these {}. The technique will only be called out if they are in quotations.

*Swish*

I took them all out in one attack. Mana slice is a long-range attack in which I shoot a wave of mana out of my shortsword. This attack used the oscillating properties of mana which I specialize in.

After taking them out I made sure that nobody noticed me. I had to be more careful from here on out. If I kept killing carelessly, somebody was bound to notice.

Over the hour, I slowly got rid of the guards on both sides.

(Misa POV)

"Hm? I sense fewer people around me."

As I was dealing with my customer, my instincts were warning me something was wrong. I quickly looked around and notice the number of guards on both sides had decreased.

"Guards! What are doing? Someone's here!"

My guards and Troy's gang members immediately became active, searching for the culprit.

Suddenly my instinct screamed for me to dodge. I listened to them and dove out of the way. It was good I listened to them as I saw Troy's head separated from his body and a deep cut into the ground.

I quickly searched around and found the culprit. He seemed annoyed that I dodged his attack.

"THERE!

Immediately, bullets started flying toward him. He was dodging every attack, closing in on my guards and killing them with his weapon. He occasionally shot a mana wave from his weapon killing all that it hit.

'I have to run. He's around C rank, I won't be able to stand against him. This must be one of the SUITE agents.'

I immediately tried to run but I didn't get far. He suddenly appeared in front of me.

'Huh, where are my guards.'

I looked around me and everyone was already dead. I turned back to the person in front of me.

"A kid?"

I unintentionally blurted out. I thought he was a 14-year-old based on his height. But I quickly brushed it off. A 14-year-old couldn't have this much mana.

I pulled out my sword that was hanging from my belt. I wouldn't go down without a fight. He put away his shortsword and pulled a single-edged greatsword.

'Is that his real weapon? Doesn't matter.'

He suddenly swung at me.

'Fast!'

All I could do was block his weapon. However, soon as I did I got sent flying backward. The power behind the swing was immeasurable.

'How can he swing that sword so fast?'

My sword also cracked at the point of impact even though I reinforced it with mana. If that had been my body, it would be like a hot knife through butter. It wouldn't matter if I reinforced my body.

He was slowly walking toward me, an oppressive aura leaking out of his body. I attempted to lift my sword in defiance but I couldn't. I had already accepted my death.

He stood in front of me. I was on my knees and I couldn't even look into his eyes. I was terrified. Suddenly my world turned upside down as my head came flying off my body.

"Phew, that was annoying."

The mission wasn't anything difficult, I just didn't want to make any mistakes. Throughout the whole ordeal, Benjamin was hidden, ready to intervene if necessary.

He soon revealed himself.

"You did good Argenti. I would give you a 10/10."

"Really? I made no mistakes?"

"No, you did make some. I could think of many criticisms. But none of them will help you on further missions and the only way to fix them is with further experience. You executed the mission perfectly and used everything you learned."

We then unchained all the slaves. They were dishevelled and most of them had lost the will to live.

"What are we going to do with them?"

"We will let the government deal with that."

We kept freeing the prisoners until I recognized someone.

"Charlotte?"

Even though it has been half a decade, I could easily recognize that mana signature from a mile away.

"Is that you, Julius?"

"Yeah, it's me."

"Thank goodness you're ok. Thank you so much, Julius. You saved me."

She then started crying.

"Ok ok, you are fine. I'm here. You're free now."

I lent my shoulder for her to cry on. I couldn't imagine what she had been through these 5 years. But it looked like she hadn't given up. She still had the will to live.

'She's a strong girl.'

I wanted to make sure this never happened to her again. I'll request Umbra Moria to protect her.

"Where are you going, Jules?"

"We probably won't see other again. But I'll make sure you will be safe."

After the government arrived, they took the slaves away. Umbra Moria also came for some reason.

"Why'd you come?"

"What's wrong with seeing my protégé? I was also worried about your safety."

"I would be fine. But, now that you are here, can you protect her?"

I pointed at Charlotte.

"She's from my village and I don't want her to go through the same thing again."

"Sure."

"Thanks, Mr. Moria. I owe you one."

"Nah, don't worry about it. It's nothing."

With that, my first mission ended uneventfully I returned to SUITE Headquarters.
