Exam [3]

(Amina POV)

The {Hawk Eyes} was an inherited ability that my grandfather developed. Another reason why the government placed importance on descendants of S ranks is that they sometimes had abilities inherited by blood.

Rarely, an S and above can awaken a mutation. Nobody knows where these mutations come from, but theories suggest that they appear because the body wants to be more optimized for combat.

However, as one's blood gets diluted, the ability would eventually disappear. But since it was only two generations up, I was lucky enough to obtain this ability.

I let go of the string as the arrow flew toward the proctor. He calmly deflected the arrow with his hand. He raised his hand and motioned me to attack, taunting me.

But I ignored him. I had been beaten down by Veronica enough to know that I was no match for him. Even though he was unarmed, I knew I probably wouldn't be able to penetrate his defenses.

I only searched for any openings he had. My {Hawk Eyes} allowed me to focus on an opponent. It gave me tunnel vision only allowing me to see and understand what my target was doing.

Everything else was blurred out. It was a powerful ability with two major drawbacks. One was the mana cost to keep my eyes running. The second more detrimental drawback was that it made me prone to surprise attacks.

However, these drawbacks were not applicable in this fight. There was only one opponent and we only had 5 minutes together.

This was also the reason why I constructed arrows out of mana instead of using physical arrows. My mana was suited for construction but it still used a lot of mana per attack.

I pulled my bow back again, but with 3 arrows formed. I fired all three at different parts of the torso. He smiled and dodged all three.

Predicting this, I switched into the naginata configuration and swung where he was moving to.

*Clang*

He raised his arm to block the attack.

Disregarding this, I took a step back and twirled my naginata. The air separated as I brought my weapon down again and slashed at his unguarded side.

Blocking it once again, I backflipped and mid-air fired launched an arrow at his head.

He moved his head left to easily dodge the projectile.

As I landed a whipped my head around, searching for my opponent. He hadn't moved from where he was standing.

'What I am thinking? He's just testing me. He's not going to attack me.'

I fired two more arrows at him and closed the distance between us. He swatted the arrows again.

"Come on is that all you've got? I don't want to be disappointed."

I stayed silent.

Just as I was about to reach him, I used {Burst Step} to move behind him, hoping to catch him off guard.

I used mana to enhance my brain, increasing my perception speed. The enhancement mana quality wasn't only used to enhance limbs, but all parts of one's body.

As I used {Burst Step}, I saw the proctor from the corner of my eye.

'He's tracking me? At these speeds?'

After appearing behind him, I used my momentum from the {Burst Step} to swing my naginata at him but he stepped out of my weapon's range.

But I wasn't only staring at him with my enhanced perception. As if expecting this I flipped the naginata and lowered my grip to the bottom of the handle.

I then swung the opposite way.

Surprised, his eyes widened as he got grazed by my weapon. Though, I didn't manage to draw blood.

"I guess I should take you a bit more seriously. I wasn't expecting you to hit me."

He clenched his hands started and emitted a cold mist.

'The frost attribute. It's the same as Jules. How's he going to use it.'

I cautiously moved forward, twirling my naginata.

I used more mana, enhancing and reinforcing me further.

I lunged forward and we started trading blow for blow. He wasn't attacking just defending.

'What's the point of the frost attribute then?'

However, as the fight went on I felt sluggish. My attacks were becoming slower. When I swung my naginata again, it moved at half speed.

I still had a considerable amount of mana though.

'His frost attribute!'

I hopped backward and looked at myself. My skin was slightly blue and was emitting a mist. It didn't hurt me so I didn't realize that I was becoming slower.

"The frost attribute has more uses than you think."

I took a deep breath a release a burst of mana to destroy the frost on my body.

I got into stance and sent mana towards my arms.

*Ding Ding Ding*

"Huh?"

I was just about to attack again a bell interrupted me.

"Looks like we're out of time. You did well Ms. Moria."

Our 5 minutes were over.

I didn't want to overstay my welcome, so I bowed and left the room. I then exited the training center. After the practical examination, you could leave and go home.

Outside, a car was waiting for me. I sighed and entered the vehicle.
