The Drug Trail [1]

The Drug Trail [1]

(Julius POV)

"Excuse me, Mr. Julius, Lord Moria is calling for you."

"Che, looks like I have another mission."

"Good luck Jules, not that you need it. I'll destroy you again."

"Humph, I will beat you next time."

I was playing chess with Amina and despite my reincarnation, she would somehow always beat me. My relationship with Amina had not changed even a year after my first mission except that we had gotten even closer.

A couple of months ago I wanted to know if Amina was a reincarnate like me. She was awfully smart for her age and was talented like me.

I randomly asked her about reincarnation and whether she believes it is real. She didn't give any abnormal reaction to my question so unless she could perfectly conceal her reactions I concluded that she wasn't a reincarnate.

I appeared in Umbra Moria's office as he gave me his next mission.

"Julius, your next target is a noble named Jasper Spencer."

He then gave me a photo of him and the list of his crimes. From sexual assault to taking bribes, his record was quite colorful. He was also suspected of drug trafficking.

"Ok then, but why did you call me here specifically? You could've asked an agent to just give the mission."

"This is not a regular mission Julius. There is something more behind it. Have you heard of MCD235 or Giecephamine?"

"Is it the new drug that is spreading around?"

"Yes. This drug was created by Vision and is spreading like wildfire. The effects of this drug are horrendous."

"What does it do? I have heard rumors that is like becoming a slave."

"The effects are similar to that. When a criminal receives the drug, they inject their mana signature into the drug and feed it to another. They continuously feed that person until they become addicted to the criminal's mana. Their existence starts to revolve around that person until they become their slave."

Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator.

"That's terrible."

"That's not the worst of it. It can even affect mages if the concentration of the drug is high enough and given sufficient dosage over time."

"Are there any symptoms or known cures?"

"There are only minor symptoms. The person may feel uncomfortable if not given enough mana from the person who fed them the drug. That's about it. The symptoms only become obvious when around the feeder. They become sexually aroused and become obsessed with the feeder."

"What about the cure?"

"Well, the only cure is to stop consuming Gieceph or have an S rank healing mage cure them. Even then psychological impact on the addict is immeasurable. 95% of addicts commit suicide when they regain their rationality. And 5% mostly consists of people who have only consumed the drug for under a year. Stopping the addicts from consuming Gieceph is extremely hard, especially because of the withdrawal symptoms and that S rank healing mages are not easily accessible."

"What does this drug have to do with the target, teacher?"

"He is suspected of spreading Giecephamine in Conicals, the city he manages. We want to root out the dealers of the drugs immediately."

"Won't we have to deal with Vision then?"

"No, the drug is always sold by third parties. It is too risky for Vision to manufacture and sell Gieceph. If we keep taking out the dealers, it will discourage third parties from selling the drug meaning that Vision will lose business partners. Vision either has to sell the drugs themselves or have or stop manufacturing Gieceph entirely. Knowing Vision, they will probably choose the latter option."

"Is Jasper Spencer suspected of being a dealer?"

"No, he is suspected of working closely with a dealer. I want you to interrogate and locate him."

"Aren't people with the telepathic attribute such as Nica more suitable for this job."

"Unfortunately, all our agents with the telepathic attribute are all out on missions and very busy. People with the telepathic attribute are extremely hard to come by, especially since the military keeps stealing all of them."

"Any dangerous individuals I have to watch out for?"

"According to the database, Jasper doesn't have any notable guards. The Spencer family is only a small noble family and he's from a branch family. But be careful. He has a colourful record so he may be hiding someone dangerous."

"Ok Teach. I'm going solo right?"

"Yes. Have a good night's rest. You'll need it."

***

The next morning I said goodbye to Amina and took a train to Conicals. It's a small country town, with the main mode of transportation being the horse and carriage. There is only one station as well.

I booked a hotel and went to the SUITE base in Conicals. It is disguised as a grocery shop and is only managed by only 10 agents.

They gave me supplies and a map of Jaspers mansion. Throughout the day in disguise, I scouted the mansion looking searching for any dangerous individuals

'Looks like there are only D ranks any below.'

I could detect anyone's strength up to B rank. The only reason why I could detect Veronica back then was that she just advanced and couldn't fully control her aura. Nowadays I couldn't detect her anymore.

At night I consolidated the information I received and gathered and planned infiltration.

Tomorrow, at 10:00 pm I would act.
