Suspicions

(Julius Argenti POV)

"You're spacing out Jules."

"Hmm... huh?"

Amina's voice broke me out of my thoughts.

"Are you alright? You seem more absentminded these days. Ask me if you need anything. We're friends and you can trust me."

I knew she was being sincere. But I didn't want her to get involved in this. It might be dangerous and Umbra would probably scold me.

Every day as I would walk down the streets, I would see many changes. Subtle changes that nobody would notice.

For example, two people who don't usually talk, meet up with each other. An increase in customers in repair shops in the alley. It was ingrained into me to analyse everything, so changes felt like massive warning signs.

"Julius Argenti!"

"Yes, Mr Foster?"

"I was pointing at you. Come up and solve this."

"Yes sir."

What was on the board was just basic calculus.

f(x) = x³ - 5x² + 8. Find the tangent line at x = 3.

I substituted x for 3 to find y, which made the equation

f(3) = (3)³ - 5×(3)² + 8. The point on the graph was (3,-10). Then I found the derivative of the equation.

f'(x)= 3x² - 10x. From there I substituted 3 in the equation to get the gradient of -3. To find the tangent line I substituted the numbers into y - y₁ = m (x - x₁) to get the equation of y = -3x - 1.

I wrote the answer on the board and drew the line on the graph. The teacher nodded before I sat back down.

On my chair, I pondered about what I was going to do after I graduated and about the recent events that were occurring. People may call me paranoid, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

After the school day ended I started planning my next move and arranging the information I had.

'I should probably contact the SUITE base here... no I don't need to. Nobody is going to do anything, especially since there are multiple S ranks stationed here.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

During my time as a SUITE agent, I got to know many different hidden organisations. We rarely attacked him and we acted the policy if they weren't harming the interests of the government, then we won't meddle with them.

This meant we let them get away with many crimes, that they should've been arrested or killed for, just so they don't cause havoc when they are threatened.

Battles between mages caused a lot of damage in the surroundings and cause the deaths of many civilians.

Now this policy was going to come back and bite them. There were many massive organisations that grew to point the that SUITE couldn't handle it. The most notable being Vision.

There were also rumours of a rebel organisation that hated the current system of governance. Though Vision hasn't been able to confirm its existence.

I could sympathise with wanting to get rid of the current system. The nobles managed many territories with only some major cities being directly under the government.

The nobles basically had free rein to whatever they wanted in the territories and government would turn a blind eye. As long they didn't commit any crimes against humanity, they were given the okay.

This meant many cases of rape and slavery were dismissed. Even though the government condemned them, it was equivalent to giving them a slap on the wrist.

They also couldn't ask SUITE to investigate because they had bigger problems to deal with. This system was very flawed, but also the easiest to work with.

Though I could understand their plight, I also knew this revolution would be bloody. Noble not only held a lot of influence but a lot of power.

Talent for becoming a mage was largely hereditary, so many nobles had many talented mages in their families. Nobles were also reluctant to get rid of their titles, so conflict would be the only way to solve this.

Well, that's only if this organisation was real, which I had a sinking feeling it was. I also had a sudden revelation.

'WAIT, we have the school trip coming soon.'

The school training trip was something that occurred every year for the first years in sector A. It was a training camp whose purpose was to learn how to minimize environmental damage. We had to have precise control of our mana.

All of sector A don't go at once as that would be over 1 000 students, so only 10 classes go at once. They spread it throughout the year and this time it would be class 1A to 10A, the most talented of this year.

The camp was located in a different city, so the protection of S ranks wouldn't apply to us.

'If they're going to attack, they'll probably attack there. Many children of noble families were going to attend this trip and this was the perfect way to gid rid of them.'

This school trip was going to be eventful. I needed to prepare if I didn't want to be caught off guard.

I could try to voice my suspicions to SUITE, but they weren't going to act based on my hunch. They didn't have enough manpower to do that.

'I'll need to do some investigating on my own. Fortunately, I still have SUITE resources, so I could gain a lot of information. I should also tell Amina about this. It concerns her safety after all. I should also talk to James and Violet as well.'

During my time here, not only have been learning and training, but I have also been observing James and Violet. Even though it's been already been 7 months, I still hadn't spoken to them.

Even though I was certain they were my friends from my past life, I was still hesitant to speak with them. I resolved myself. I was going to talk to them tomorrow.

This month was going to be extremely chaotic. With so many organisations with their agendas, I felt like I was safe nowhere. I don't have enough information nor enough time.
