As soon as the clock hit 6, the music started playing. The Vita had started and I could see people around me performing the same actions. At first, everyone was fully in sync.
However, it didn't take long for people to start failing and making mistakes, dancing off the beat. Some even gave up entirely.
'Well, what can I expect, everyone is still 5 years old in the end.'
I am by no means a good dancer. Yet I was still much better than everyone here. I even considered making a mistake to seem natural.
But before I got to delve further into my thought process, in the corner of my eye, I could a young girl dancing perfectly. She had long black hair and her face contained a massive smile.
She was thoroughly enjoying the Vita and it reflected in her movements. It was elegant and mesmerizing.
I could tell everyone was watching her, yet she didn't seem fazed.
'She has natural talent, I should probably ask for her name.'
While staring at her, I nearly tripped on my foot. I blushed and quickly reorganized myself. I don't anyone to see my mistake.
After around 3 minutes of dancing, the music finally ends and the performance is over. I felt like collapsing, not from the physical exhaustion, but the mental one.
I didn't think performing in front of thousands of people would be this tough.
The end of the routine ends with me injecting mana into a card and tossing it up similar to when you graduate high school. The cards all have a spell engraved onto them, then which explodes in a flash of light.
Some fail to throw it before it explodes. The explosions aren't dangerous and the worst case is a minor burn that can be healed within a couple of days.
Some cards fly higher than others. They say the color in which the card explodes determines your mana affinity.
Many different bright colors are flashing brightly, yellow, green, pink - all sorts of colors. I don't know what the colors symbolize, but they look pretty.
However, when mine explodes, ominous darkness is released. It was darker than night, darker than space. It seemed like something that shouldn't even exist in the universe. However, as soon as it arrives, it also disappears, leaving behind some blue sparkles.
I take it back, that saying is a lie and myth. It does not depict reality at all. I didn't want to believe that was affinity. What did it even mean?
After that slightly concerning event, the festival continued. I don't think many noticed how my card reacted and if they did, they probably wrote it off as being their imagination.
It was getting darker yet the town center was still as bright as day. Each stall had lanterns set up and there were crowds of people waiting in line for the food to arrive.

I could smell the wildly different flavors wafting around. My mouth started drooling at the thought of tasting the food. I didn't know where to start I decided to go to the stall nearest to me.
I went around with my parents trying different foods. Despite looking similar to the food on Earth, it tasted wildly different. Yet, it was still delicious. By the end of my eating session, I was so full my stomach felt like bursting.
As I sat down, waiting for the food I ate to digest, noticed the girl that caught my interest in the Vita. I decided I was going to try to befriend her.
Though our mental ages varied differently, I didn't want to be couped up inside my house all day like a NEET.
It also might be fun going back to being a kid again. No responsibilities and just having a lot of fun.
I walked to the girl I saw. I could hear my parents silently cheering in the background. She was with her older sister and parents.
I quickly recognized her mother - she was the mayor of this town. Though it didn't affect my decision in the slightest. It was probably beneficial to get closer to the mayor anyway.
"Um... excuse me, you danced really well."
I have never been good at striking up a conversation, and this was the best I could do.
"Well, of course, I practiced very hard and I'm just that good."
She spoke arrogantly, though I could tell that she enjoyed the compliment.
"Well dear, it is good to make friends. How about you spend time with this boy and we'll meet up later."
Her mother intervened, probably hoping her daughter and I could get along. She left with her husband and eldest daughter deciding to talk to my parents, leaving me and the younger girl alone.
We were both silent for a couple of seconds. The atmosphere was awkward and neither of us didn't what to say.
"I'll introduce myself, my name is Julius Argenti, and I live on the outskirts of this town where the farms are."
I decide to break the silence.
"Hmph, I guess I will tell you my name. I am Charlotte Myers and as you know I am the daughter of the mayor."
Charlotte tried to sound as arrogant as possible. She presumably was trying to show her superiority. It reminded me of my cousin I knew back on Earth.
"Your dancing wasn't half bad either."
That is perhaps the best compliment I was going to get out of her.
We continued chatting and learning more about each other. We found common ground in the foods we ate. It turned out we were both foodies who loved different food cuisines.
In my previous life, I used to learn many different recipes from different cultures because I hated eating the same food every day. I needed variety and I enjoyed practically all dishes from all cultures - curries, tacos, pizza, sushi, fried noodles, I loved all of them.
This world has its version of pasta and pizza which taste different from the ones back on Earth. It was because this world's wheat and tomatoes have a different taste to the ones back on Earth.
I tried some pizza and what looked like yakisoba at the festival store and it was delicious.
Soon after, other kids started gathering around us until we had a group of around 25 people. We played many games such as tag, hopscotch, and more. It was a while since I have this much fun and I was enjoying being a kid again.
We had so much fun that we didn't realize it was 10:00 pm and our parents wanted us to get back home. We said our goodbyes and we collectively agreed we would meet up at the park nearby every day.
"It's good you making friends dear. I am sorry that I kept you in the house Jules, but I worried you might've gotten lost. Well now that you are slightly older, I let you run around in the town. You could play with that cute girl as well."
My mother was overprotective as ever. I also didn't have feelings for Charlotte, I just enjoyed being friends with her. Not that I mentioned it to her.
The festival was a joyous event for all of us. It was the first time I had felt truly part of this world. At this point, I had accepted my new identity. Finally, I decided to throw out my previous identity.
I am Julius Argenti and nobody else. I felt sorry for my family back on Earth, but I couldn't get hung up on the past if I wanted to move forward.
