Chapter 60 - Night Raid

Gaius had to cancel the summoning of his Hawk and then charge the process for two hours' worth of mana. At that point in time, his Wisdom was already his highest status, but it looked like he would need a lot more in order to keep summoning his creatures faster… their cost wasn't going to decrease, after all.

Once the creature was summoned, Gaius jumped on his back and then began to fly to the sky after crossing the dark alleys of that part of the city. He didn't know how alert the enemies would be at that point in time, but he didn't have much free time, so he had to make it worth the hassle…

While flying one hundred meters above the ground level, Gaius didn't feel any eyes on him. His Perception was high enough to work at that distance, but he decided to play it safe while he watched the enemy camp.

"They aren't well organized, but they are close to the siege weapons…" Gaius thought when he saw numerous groups of tents around his targets. "I will have to be fast and destructive. Otherwise, they will repair them completely."

The enemy soldiers on that side didn't look particularly dangerous or strong, but when Gaius checked their parameters, he saw that they had high dexterity and wisdom… would they need that to repair and use the siege weapons? Gaius couldn't see their skills, but they seemed more like craftsmen than soldiers… he didn't ask Relia earlier, but he should have asked her opinion about them.

"The only thing that they don't have are siege towers… I suppose they would have a hard time building one that could move and help them climb those walls as well," Gaius rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "That works for me, since destroying those would be even harder."

Gaius wanted those craftsmen in his army, even if they weren't that good for combat… they would be useful in making all sorts of things for Gaius and he could use or sell the products and he would just need some raw materials… where he would find them? That was a question future Gaius would have to find, present Gaius was busy with his present problems.

Either way, Gaius forgot about that when he looked in the distance and saw some tents burning…

Most of the archers that Gaius got before were on Reila's group, using arrows embedded with oil and fire, they began to burn the tents on the back of the enemy's camp. Still, the enemies began to move in response to them quite fast… and they didn't hesitate in charging toward them.

"I guess not everyone here is an engineer…" Gaius thought.

Gaius waited for a while until a lot of people guarding the siege weapons began to move to the back of their formation. Gaius couldn't help but think that they were getting used to Reila's group's attacks and they knew that soon they would run away once they approached them with high numbers, but tonight… things were going to be different.

When the enemies approached, the archers began to focus on them instead of the tents… the fire arrows burned quite nicely even after piercing some pieces of armor that the enemies were wearing. In the blink of an eye, dozens of soldiers died and Gaius noticed that in his parameters.

"What the hell… fifty levels in Bow Mastery already?" Gaius furrowed his eyebrows.

Although Gaius didn't notice the differences yet, his health and strength increased quite a bit thanks to the guys he killed earlier… Even though they didn't have the chance to level up yet, the combination of the skills made Brute Strength reach level fifteen already. The skill Increased his strength by one point per level and while the effects seemed low at first, eventually, they would be equal to several level-ups.

That was quite the exciting thought... he wondered if he would become jacked like those guys even at his age, but he didn't notice any differences , so perhaps he didn't have to worry about it yet.

Nevertheless, that was a matter for another time… Gaius made his Hawk fly low and approach the siege weapons and then he began to focus… he could only attack them once since his mana was limited and he couldn't let the enemies notice where he was attacking.

"They will eventually notice the pattern, but it is the best option that I have…" Gaius thought while he began to fly around the camp and get closer and closer to the targets.

Thanks to that, it didn't take long for Gaius to attack the first few catapults… the enemies let them on the second line of their formation since the first line was supposed to defend them… but they only had a few soldiers there while most of them were close to the siege weapons.

Regardless, Gaius fired magic arrows that hit the middle of the catapults and destroyed their core… thanks to that, their parts flew to the sides. Even in the darkness of the night, Gaius' precision was insane… in the blink of an eye, he destroyed five catapults before the enemies could realize what had happened.

"It is a pit that I can't summon them, but I guess my power is already broken as it is…" Gaius thought while he was approaching the next group of targets.

Gaius was flying in circles and getting closer to the center of the enemy's formation like the winds of a tornado. Thanks to that, once he destroyed the second group of siege weapons, they understood that pattern… still, the idea that someone was flying above them and attacking their siege weapons didn't cross their minds until Gaius destroyed some trebuchets…

"Those should be pretty nasty on the walls… anyways, do your worst guys," Gaius thought when he felt some eyes on him.

Unfortunately for the enemies, even though they could see a massive shadow flying above them, they didn't know what it was, nor did they have weapons to take it down. They only fought using melee weapons to defend their siege weapons and aside from that, they only had the siege weapons… they didn't expect that something so ludicrous as a shadow in the night sky would target their best tools… Moreover, they couldn't protect the siege weapons against attacks from above.

In the end, some of the enemies tried to use the siege weapons to take down Gaius, but they took too much time doing that since a lot of the soldiers moved to take down Relia and the others. In less than one minute, Gaius destroyed fifteen other siege weapons…

Some of the catapults began to be used, but accuracy wasn’t their forte… and the projectiles passed several meters away from him. They were supposed to destroy structures, not small flying targets, after all.

"I almost feel bad for them… as if," Gaius laughed a little when he finished his job and then saw the enemies speechless while looking at their destroyed siege weapons. "Retreat, Reila."

"All right, young master," Relia said.

Gaius began to fly higher to disappear in the night sky before heading to the city, but he decided to summon some of the soldiers that he killed today. He could summon five of them in half an hour and that would be a good start. In any case, he was starting to worry about a bit his mood swings, but even those worries would vanish soon enough. Once he summoned the new minions.

Once he did that, Gaius made them head to where Relia and the others were. They tried to resist since they didn't know what was going on and they weren't fearful of dying again, but they could only be so troublesome at level zero.

Gaius also hurried back to the city since the attacks of the catapults alerted some soldiers on the city and they came to check things on the walls… still, they had no idea what was happening there.
