"He sure is a hard worker…" Gaius smiled in satisfaction. "In any case, I guess now my next goal should be to check the strength of those soldiers that come here to get the taxes. That long-haired guy should be my main target… his attitude seriously pisses me off."

Gaius wondered if the Desert Wolf at level fifty could solo him. It was hard to imagine that the guy was that much stronger than his father…

"I need to analyze that rapier of his… part of his strength should be thanks to that," Gaius thought as he crossed the entrance of his home. "I got a new spell, and since the Desert Wolf is leveling up fast, I guess it will become powerful really fast. I need to think carefully about the best use of it against a guy like that."

Herac Lv 68

Gaius was left speechless when he used Observe on the rapier guy… his strength was absurd, and so was his durability. He was a lot tougher than the demons that Gaius had seen, and that was without considering his weapon.

Wind Rapier: A special weapon blessed by the spirit of the wind. Each attack can become three times faster, and they cause twenty points of extra wind damage.

Durability: 80/80

"What the hell, isn't that a legendary item or something?" Gaius thought as the guy was leaving with the taxes and some kids to train. "The bonus in speed was already fearsome, but he could cause extra magic damage without even knowing magic or losing mana. Both effects work well with each other… it wouldn't surprise me if he could kill Desert Wolves in a single instant."

That was the strength of someone Gaius wanted to defeat. While he didn't mind defeating him in a sneaky way or even attacking him from behind, it was clear that such a thing wouldn't be easy.

Using the Desert Wolf alone wasn't an option anymore. Even if the creature performed a suicidal attack, it wouldn't be able to ambush that person… and since Gaius could only see him once per month, the guy was never alone. So the chances of the creature reaching the target were low, to begin with.

After one month, the Desert Wolf became that strong. Gaius didn't know what it was hunting, but it was clear that in three years, the creature wouldn't be able to win against Herac… as expected, Gaius had to change his plans a bit.

"I should give the order now for the Desert Wolf to bring any half-dead creature to the territory of the slimes… that will increase my army size a bit," Gaius rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Heading south or east will be difficult without the hawk, and for the time being, I should avoid doing that. I can't let people see such a big animal flying around often."

In the end, Gaius decided to do those expeditions once a month to avoid problems and focused on training his magic at home, and at night, training with the wooden sword and shield.

Since he never saw his father fight, and it was obvious that a two-year-old boy couldn't make an adult fight for real against him, Gaius couldn't help but wonder if magic could have some applications when it comes to fighting with weapons. He already knew that he could enhance his body with mana, and he was making progress in that area, like doing handstands… even though half the time he would fall and smash his face against the ground.

"I guess there is only one way to find out…" Gaius thought and then tried to pass his mana through the wooden sword.

Gaius tried and tried, and the result was… utter failure. The mana refused to leave his body and pass through other things. That was strange… based on Gaius' geek knowledge, enhancing weapons with mana should be something normal and fairly easy to do.

"Reality is often disappointing… or so they say," Gaius thought. "Let's keep trying while I do other things."

Gaius' life suddenly became busy, and he had more things to do than he expected… researching the spells that he could use with the help of the system, sharpening his use of mana with the abilities that he developed himself, training his body with light exercises, and planning his future actions. That was a lot to do, considering he was just two years old.

Despite that, Gaius made a lot of progress in the next two years… the only downside was the fact that he only increased his summoning list by one creature in that time. The reason for that was that he couldn't explore further without getting caught leaving the village. Since the Desert Wolf could only stay one day away from him in order to help in case something happened, the creature never brought any new creatures.

Further south of the village, Gaius found a group of demons living there in peace. While they were called that, they only attacked when humans entered their territory… The weird thing about them was the fact that they lived in society as well. They were goblins.

It was a pity since goblins were supposed to have all types of classes and sizes, but Gaius believed that he could find others eventually.

According to fantasy stories, goblins were despicable creatures, and until now, Gaius had never heard of them doing anything. Since they weren't that strong, he wondered why the humans of the village didn't attack them to gain more territory to farm… but in the end, Gaius didn't have to know, and he just gave the order for the goblin to hunt the others. He made his choice a long time ago to free the village at any cost necessary.

Around the time he was four years old, Gaius began to learn some proper techniques from his father: how to run while carrying a sword and shield, how to distribute his weight when assuming a fighting stance, how to step in during an attack, and so on…

Gaius didn't know if he was just lazy or if he just preferred magic since it was more convenient, but he felt that learning all that and practicing countless times was a pain. Still, he insisted on practicing it in order to build his willpower and because he couldn't run away from things that were a bit unpleasant.

"Hmm?" Zairus frowned when he suddenly saw a crack appearing on his wooden sword in the middle of a training session. "This is the tenth, right? Even though I am so careful, how come you managed to break my wooden swords while yours remained completely fine for years?"

Gaius smirked in satisfaction. While he couldn't make his father fight for real, he could do that much every week. He always targeted the same spot on the adversary's weapon over and over again and only focused on that in order to build his precision.

"Well, I will get another one tomorrow. It is enough for today," Zairus said and threw the wooden sword away.

"Don't throw trash in the village!" Kaira shouted once she saw that.

"So-sorry…" Zairus forced a smile and then said it.

Zairus obediently picked up his wooden sword and then returned to the house while Gaius stayed behind to practice a bit more. It didn't take long for him to notice that his wife was still a bit angry.

"You should at least praise him that much for putting in so much effort," Kaira said after she crossed her arms.

"Don't say that too loudly," Zairus said and then sighed. "When forging the finest of blades, you can’t go softly even for a single moment of the process."

"Don’t treat our son like a sword…" Kaira furrowed her eyebrows.

"I am just thinking about his future," Zairus said while scratching the back of his head. "He has a good head for combat, and he isn’t a slacker. His skills are being refined day by day. He has everything to grow to become a splendid warrior. However, praising him now might destroy all that. He will already be praised by others once they see his skills. So, as his first example of a warrior, I can’t do that."
