Gaius killed a bunch of engineers with his magic arrows earlier and he wondered why all of them were part of the infantry battalion that tried to stop them… all of those guys had those skills, and all of them were in the army. It seemed weird… unless in the past, the Lorencis state had a smaller one where people who were used to making things would fight using the tools that they created.
In any case, Gaius didn't have much work for the rest of the day aside from helping tend the wounds of those who got injured… since they used all of their forces, a bunch of them would be out of the battlefield for a couple of days. Gaius wondered if he should choose a guinea pig and see if he could do something about their wounds with his mana, but he decided against that and used himself instead once he returned to his tent.
In the end, Gaius only returned to his tent when the sun was setting. Work between the battles could be more tiresome and time-consuming even than the bloodshed… Still, it felt a lot less bothersome, even though the gains for his strength weren't clear. It was a bit odd, feeling that way, but he thought that it was a good thing since there was some balance in his thoughts.
Speaking of bloodshed, Gaius had considered that a few times, but he never felt the need to actually do so… hurting himself to try to learn some healing magic. The reason for that was obvious… he never got hurt in his battles until now. His power was just overwhelming under the right circumstances and since he knew a bit of psychological warfare, things were even more efficient.
"Well, just to be safe, I should have more cards in my hands… waiting for me to get more skills by getting more soldiers takes too long and I don't hit the jackpot often," Gaius thought once closed his tent and then took a deep breath. "No time for hesitation…"
Gaius made the tip of his spear cut the palm of his right hand… the pain wasn't that strong, but it was certainly stinging… perhaps the pain would help him learn it faster somehow. Still, if his attack magic already made him look like a monster, being able to heal wounds would make him even more abnormal.
It didn't take long for Gaius to feel like he messed up big time… not only was he unable to use his mana in the wound, but he also didn't notice any changes on it when he used Spiritual Armor. Even if that worked, it would consume too much mana… it would be convenient, though, if he could use a skill that would boost his parameters and improve his healing speed.
"Anyway, this isn't the trick behind it…" Gaius thought while the blood was starting to make a small pond in the palm of his hand. "Maybe the wound is too deep… who hurt you? Yeah, I hurt myself…"
Gaius was starting to think that he had a problem since he was trying to make himself laugh with his own silly jokes. Nevertheless, he soon recovered his focus and tried to concentrate mana on the wound and then around it. Still, it didn't work either… he couldn't even stabilize the energy there.
"Control isn't the problem since I can do a lot already with my mana…" Gaius thought. "I guess there is another reason, or I am just that terrible and unskilled. I am pretending to be intelligent… I guess this also confirms that I pretend pretty badly to be quite mature for my age."

Gaius turned around his hand and let the blood drip from his wound. Maybe he got carried away since he was already developing another technique in its earlier stages… still, after seeing so many people dying and getting hurt, it made sense that he would feel like helping them, even if they weren't that important in his life.
Besides, Gaius had already stood out too much in that war… there was no reason for him to do anything more that would make him look like a freak of nature.
Despite those thoughts, Gaius continued with his training. Even if he couldn't be that open about it, he could do a number of things in order not to stand out while using that kind of magic. Healing people after covering their wounds in bandages was one of them.
"How does the healing process work again?" Gaius thought while trying to recall some texts he read while he was on Earth. "Red blood cells help create collagen, which are tough, white fibers that form the foundation for new tissue. The wound starts to fill in with new tissue... New skin begins to form over this tissue. As the wound heals, the edges pull inward and the wound gets smaller… I am really not sure how I can do this with magic."
Several hours passed while Gaius was trying to apply that knowledge, but he didn't obtain any success. Thanks to it, he decided to eat something and then go to bed. However, someone troublesome showed up again… it was the redhead woman from the other night.
"Oh, it is the woman who wants to become the town's bicycle," Gaius said.
"... I didn't tell you my name, but that is really the first thing in mind when you see me?" The redhead asked while showing a difficult expression.
“Don’t blame me for that,” Gaius shrugged while imagining why the woman was there.
Gaius didn’t want to think that she came for more easy money, but he didn’t know what else he should think of a woman who decided to sell her body. She got used to easy money, after all. Still, now that he thought about it, the woman wasn’t wearing her cloak today, she was wearing a long skirt and long sleeveless shirt… Gaius imagined that in the previous night, she had some battle underwear under the cloak.
“I used the money that you gave me last night and bought some tools that I wanted and made this, it isn’t perfect yet, but it should get better over time,” The redhead said and then showed a small box to Gaius. “You really saved me the other night… I was hungry to death, but I also needed money to buy some tools for my trade.”
Gaius could smell the scene of medicine and he wondered what was going on… he thought that her trade was riding dudes around, but maybe the situation was a bit different than he had imagined. Even though he didn’t ask, the woman began to explain her life story. That raised some death flags, but he didn't mind since she was essentially a stranger to him.
“I came from a family of herbalists and healers that came from the south and moved years ago to the town that fell a few weeks ago,” The redhead explained. "We lost everything in the attack… my father was a soldier and died and my mother was a healer in the frontlines, when the walls started to fall, she didn't have the chance to leave anymore… Since we are from outside, we aren't receiving much help and since my family is from another state, we aren't a priority either. That is why I decided to take some drastic measures after watching some women working at night. Anyway, why am I telling this to a kid of your age…"
“Why indeed…” Gaius said.
Gaius couldn't agree more. Besides, he had other things to worry about, the woman's sobbing story wasn't of his concern even if she was pretty and all… Regardless, to think that she would try to mimic the ladies of the night… Gaius didn't want to think about it, but the situation was worse than he had expected if the girl was forced to sell herself even though she was most likely a virgin… if she was trying to make Gaius think that, he was planning to say that he was a Libra or an Asparagus. Whatever the other zodiac signs were… she wasn't blaming the stars based on her lack of luck, so perhaps she was a bit different than those who believed in the zodiac. For Gaius, the zodiacs only served to tell him what kind of golden saint represented him.
