“Sometimes, you use words that I don’t understand,” Angela said while frowning in confusion. “In any case, in your spiritual form, you are like an open book, and I can read your recent thoughts and emotions.”
“I guess there is no point in playing cool here, then,” Gaius shrugged his shoulders. “In any case, we don’t have time, right? So, what do you need to tell me this time?”
“Why don’t we talk a little about the history of that world you are in this time?” Angela asked. “Since you came up with your method of using mana but only now, I can tell that you did some research about it and wondered why no one used anything related to magic now. Well, the truth is that magic knowledge is something passed down from parents to children and that there aren’t many places that survived the years and still can do that aside from some exceptions. Did you realize that no one in your village is older than forty?”
“No… I didn’t realize that,” Gaius frowned while rubbing his imaginary chin. “Come to think of it, I never saw anyone with white hair. Do we age that slowly, or perhaps the village is...”
“That is because they are survivors from a war that took place five years ago and lasted for twenty years,” Angela explained. “Most of their generation was killed, and those who were older didn’t survive for many reasons. The people from that village are refugees, which is why they live in a dangerous area and yet didn’t have time to build some defenses against monsters.”
Things were starting to make sense… that was why the organization and structure of the village were far from perfect. Usually, dangerous creatures wouldn’t just suddenly pop out. The people from the village were forced to move there to escape something more troublesome, getting involved in conflicts after a war.
“I see… things are… more complicated than expected,” Gaius said. “I suppose I can’t ask if you know if something is going to happen soon.”
“I can make fair guesses based on what I know, but I can’t say more than that,” Angela said while shaking her head. “You don’t have to worry about the future. Just focus on doing your very best at the moment, and things probably will work out in the end.”
“Probably, huh,” Gaius said while feeling like sighing. “That isn’t very reassuring.”
“Nothing in life is certain, and nothing is written in stone,” Angela said. “Would you rather believe that your future is predetermined and that your own free will doesn’t exist?”
The next time Gaius woke up, it was already the morning of the next day. In the end, the spiritual call, or whatever it was called, the communication that he had with Angela suddenly came to an end, and he began to get up.
“I forgot to ask her if the system is only related to summoning things and my basic parameters… the most convenient ones help the user level up their skills, but I guess asking for that will be pushing,” Gaius thought. “I will just have to improve my abilities the hard way. I have plenty of time, so I will be fine.”
Although he thought that, Gaius had no idea how he could use his magic without drawing attention to himself. He already had a hard time trying to speak like a baby, and that always made his parents frown, which also made him sweat bullets. Anything more suspicious, and they would think that Gaius was cursed or something. It was a weird thing to worry about...
After thinking for a while and doing some tests, Gaius thought that he would just have to take some risks at the entrance of his home since it didn’t have any windows. The reason for that is that he couldn’t control his mana well. It would be more efficient if he tried to control it around himself and make it gradually increase in speed and power. However, once he created and thought of making the mana sphere move… it flew in a straight line toward the first direction, and he couldn’t do anything about it.

"You sure like to watch people coming and going, Gaius," Kaira said while smiling and putting him at the entrance of the house. "Don't move from there, okay? I need to focus on working."
Gaius nodded and then turned to see the people in the village busy with their everyday lives. Only now and then would people look at him for an instant and then look away. The situation wasn't perfect, but at least he didn't have to train every second. To be more precise, he couldn't with his mana.
"I guess I should focus on improving my magic abilities in the early years of my life since it will take a while until I can train my body," Gaius thought. "Although I will be using a lot of free points, that won't make much of a difference once I have enough summoned creatures with high enough levels at my disposal."
With that in mind, Gaius used his free points in magic and wisdom. Although he couldn't tell since he was just a toddler, Gaius had gotten quite stronger. The ant increased his perception quite a bit. Meanwhile, the spider and the worm increased his dexterity, also making his stamina go up. The lizard was having a hard time leveling up, which was why his adaptability only increased a bit. Perhaps that would explain his ability to think about magic and solve problems; that should be part of adaptability as well, even though the explanation of the system didn’t mention it.

Regardless, Gaius pointed his hand to the ground in front of him and then fired a small mana sphere. It didn't make any noise upon impact, but it dug a couple of centimeters underground even though it flew at one meter per second. Maybe increasing his magic had been a mistake… at least according to Gaius' plans of training in secret.
"Since it doesn't make any noise, let's check how far it can go…" Gaius thought and then grinned. "You are a wizard, Gaius."
Gaius increased the distance little by little, but the sphere didn't lose energy even after flying for twenty meters. That was probably another side effect of increasing his magic. Gaius scratched the back of his head… he thought that he would need that much firepower to kill a bird, but it looked like he had gone overboard.
"I will test my full range later… let's focus on increasing the control and their speed," Gaius thought.
Using that kind of attack, even with the bare minimum of energy, required ten points of mana, and thanks to his wisdom, he could use that once every two and a half minutes. It wasn't that applicable for combat, but it was enough for training.
It looked like wisdom truly helped Gaius since it improved his learning speed and control over mana. After a few attempts, he realized that he needed to set the trajectory that the projectile would need to follow, but even so, he couldn't just make it do a complete ninety-degree turn… the best he could make right now was to fly in a very wide arc.
"As for speed… it seems that I need to make it rotate to move faster," Gaius nodded to himself.
After analyzing a few attempts, Gaius confirmed that the rotation made the projectile consume itself as fuel, even though it was a really low margin. Like it could cross twenty meters before it could decrease in size, and it was just a little bit.
"At this rate, it isn't totally impossible for me to use Kamehameha or even Rasengan," Gaius thought and then grinned. "No one can copyright me in another world. Hahahaha."
It required an afternoon of training, but Gaius made a lot of progress. Enough to increase the moving speed of his attacks by four times. Things were going to become interesting from now on… in a week or two, Gaius could imagine himself being good enough to hit some birds in the sky.
"Still, now that I think about it… birds aren't exactly apex predators," Gaius frowned. “Well, we can’t start working with our best tools from the beginning; we need to get going with what we have before improving our situation.”
One week later, after Gaius started his magic training, his mana spheres could fly at ten meters per second. Practice really makes perfect… that should be enough to take down some careless birds. The question was how Gaius could take them down without letting them fall in the middle of the village. It was tough that he had to consider that as well instead of just killing the creatures without a care. It was another troublesome thing to consider.
