At first, the frontline frowned in confusion, while Gaius smirked at it. Gaius kept a closer look at the parameters of his Desert Wolf and confirmed that the creature was far enough away not to be found. Some enemies with torches tried to find the enemy that attacked them, but they got hit and killed by wind spheres. Eventually, the infantry of the enemies stepped up with shields and blocked the attacks, and then Gaius forced his beast to retreat a bit.

"Hehehe, I did well in making the Desert Wolf focus on magic and wisdom," Gaius smirked while checking the parameters. "Come to think of it, at which level does he use the wind sphere? I should have studied this when I had time... if only I had any real chances to do so."
That was a test that Gaius could do later… In any case, the enemies waited for a while and investigated the area the attacks came from. To make sure that something like that wouldn’t happen again, they moved to platoons with shields to protect the archers as they moved.
Everyone readied themselves to finally fight, but after the enemies walked two hundred meters, the archers got attacked from behind by numerous wind spheres. At that point in time, Gaius had a really hard time controlling his laughter. A war was about to start, and a lot of people in the village were going to die, but he couldn’t help it. Those guys were just too stupid. He took a deep breath to calm down since they probably never fought summoners, so there was no point in getting excited over it.
Some people in the camp saw the silhouette of a beast passing through the area at high speeds, but they didn’t have the chance to attack it. It didn’t take long for some people to recall the rumors that their allies mentioned a few years ago when they lost that battle. They said that demons and a spirit were guarding that village… and since they were fighting the soldiers of that place, it confirmed everything.
The commander of that flank began to bite his nails while wondering what to do. He was a slender man with short yellow hair and fine features. Even though he was wearing black full-plate armor, he didn’t look like a soldier at all… one would find it hard to believe that he had even trained with any weapon.
"How many losses?" the commander of their right flank asked.
"Around one hundred, sir," a random soldier saluted and then replied.
That was bad; that commander was expecting to lose all that, perhaps even less, while massacring all of his enemies… Still, he gave the order for two other battalions to join the fray. The battle was taking a surprise turn, but he couldn't let the tide of the battle fall on the enemy's hands.
The enemy commander sent another two battalions to watch the back of the first army of attack, and Gaius confirmed that he couldn’t use his Desert Wolf anymore… at least not until the melee started and the chaos spread.
It didn’t take long before the enemies were two hundred meters away, and they stopped to knock their arrows. The entire front line raised their shields, but Gaius could tell that some people were going to die there…
The kids were too nervous to notice him sneaking away. His silent step also helped… in any case, he was already running to the side of the allies’ formation with his bow in hand when the enemies fired their first wave of arrows. He heard some grunts of pain when he stopped moving… he was a bit on the dark side of the area, so no one could see him. While his bow was ready, what Gaius did was summon an extra-large mana bomb.

Amidst the darkness of the night, some enemies saw a sphere of blue light energy increasing in size… that was also similar to the reports they heard two years ago, but no one connected the dots, and they weren’t able to see Gaius since the Mana Bomb grew too fast.
In the end, when they thought of running away, the projectile was fired and flew insanely fast toward the archers. They had ten lines of ten archers each, and almost half of them were knocked down like bowling pins. The impact and the groans of pain silenced the whole battlefield since no one knew what had happened.

…
Gaius killed around twenty enemies and even leveled up; half of them granted him the skill Bow Mastery, so his ability with the bow improved considerably. Still, he had better things to do, like returning to his post without alerting anyone.
"ATTACK!" Zairus shouted with all his might.
Fortunately, Zairus helped Gaius a bit with that… most of the people on the battlefield were left in a daze, so someone had to take the reins over the situation. Zairus was known enough to the point that everyone hooted in agreement and followed.
"Wait, stupid father!" Gaius said with his eyes wide open. "I can’t watch your back like that! I need to bring you back alive, otherwise, how am I going to face Mom?"
Gaius ignored his plans to remain in stealth and dashed toward his father. The soldiers of the village split into eight lines with fifty of them in each, and Zairus was on the very first line since they couldn’t save their strength or numbers in that situation.
Although Gaius hurried, the melee started before he could arrive… the sound of metal clashing and the grunts of effort that everyone put in while swinging their weapons were almost deafening.
Fortunately, it didn’t take long for Gaius to see his father fighting a few meters ahead. Once he found him, Gaius nocked his arrow and then quickly fired at the nearest enemy on his father’s right side. After analyzing the levels of the enemies, Gaius confirmed that his father would do fine in one-on-one battles. So, he focused on making sure that it would be that way.
Thanks to the power-up in Bow Mastery, Gaius could easily hit the enemies that were between his allies, even amidst the darkness of the night. Thanks to that, in no time, he ran out of arrows. He was getting a lot of minions to use, but he couldn't bring himself to feel satisfied in that situation.
After looking around for a moment, Gaius confirmed that the quivers of the archers he killed were further ahead. However, the melee was in a stalemate. Despite their numbers, the enemies were losing due to the high morale of the defenders. Still, that wasn’t a good thing for them…
"Go, buddy!" Gaius thought.
The Desert Wolf dashed to the battlefield again, and even before it could get too close, it began to attack and kill a lot of enemies with the wind spheres. When the creature got close enough, it began to rip the enemies to shreds while using magic as well… confusion began to spread, and word that a demon was attacking their back made the enemy’s soldiers worry. Being killed while fighting was something they were expecting, but being attacked from behind and without knowing was scary even for them.
The stalemate broke to the defenders’ side, and then the battlefield began to move. Soon, Gaius would get some quivers, but before that could happen, he approached his father since he noticed that a lot of people were looking at him.
When Zairus noticed that, he clicked his tongue and prepared to swing his sword from one side to the other and deal with the enemies all at once, but he couldn’t do that without risking hitting his allies… they were already wounded enough.
Zairus decided to deal with them using quick swings, but before the first could get too close, a spear was thrown toward his chest and pierced it. Zairus ignored that and focused on another enemy, but soon the same thing happened. While frowning, Zairus saw Gaius behind him grabbing the enemy’s spears.
"What are you doing here… I guess it isn’t time for that," Zairus asked, wondering how Gaius had that much strength to throw the spears in such a precise and quick way.
Gaius didn’t. He enhanced his arms with mana; that was why he could throw them so well. Also, because he got Spear Mastery from several of the enemies he killed using arrows, it seems that throws also work alongside that skill.
"Mother said to bring you back home in one piece," Gaius said while having a hard time not shrugging.
"She should have said that to me…" Zairus said and then sighed.
