Gaius could think about that later since he had to focus on getting rid of the enemies hidden in the bushes. It didn't take long for Gaius to see them working in pairs and then trying to raise some ropes to knock down the horses, but they failed at accomplishing it.
It didn't take long for the cavalry to cross that grove, thanks to that, they saw a bunch of soldiers armed with tower shields and spears with their eyes wide open… they didn't expect that their allies in the grove would be that ineffective.
"Kill them all!" Kennil shouted.
"WOOOOOAAAAAAHHHH!"
All the soldiers shouted, but Gaius focused on looking beyond the excitement. Around five hundred infantrymen were trying to block their path, but Gaius could see a bunch of enemy soldiers carrying parts of the siege weapons to another grove.
"They need a lot of hands since those are heavy and they don't have many wagons and horses here to transport those," Gaius thought and began to fire the Mana Arrows toward a single line of enemies.
The enemies group had divided themselves into groups of fifty and ten lines… it would be better if Gaius spread the damage, but he decided to open the path for Kennil since he could lead the charge and attack the enemies of one side and he dealt with the enemies on the other side. His mana arrows passed through the shields and hit the enemy soldiers' heads in the explosion… their tower shields weren't that high quality, after all. Still, even while the commander was opening the path with ease while following the hole in the enemy's formation that Gaius created… something didn't feel right.
Gaius tried to understand where that feeling was coming from, but he failed in finding the origin of it. He kept his guard up, though, while he helped Kennil open the path toward the second grove.
"The people here probably didn't think that the groves would be such a pain in the ass… or that enemies would reach this far for that matter," Gaius thought.
"Ignore the leftovers and follow me!" Kennil shouted.
Not even half of the infantrymen had been disposed off when Kennil ordered that, but their formation was already in shambles, and two hundred of them had been killed… their goal was only to slow them down, so they would only help them with their goals by doing so.
Without hesitation, the cavalry followed his orders and then they increased their pace again. Their discipline sure was something since the soldiers really looked thirsty for blood and the idea of not obeying their commander didn't cross their minds.
"Can you see traps ahead?" Kennil asked.
"No," Gaius replied.
"The right answer is no, sir…" Kennil said while frowning. "You probably will deserve a position to lead others, but you won't have the chance to issue respect with that attitude."
Gaius didn't have to, he already had almost an army that followed his orders without any problems and that would only increase over time. So, that was far from one of his worries…
"... The enemies might have some other tricks, there is a chance that they showed themselves there to lure us," Kennil declared after a sigh. "Keep your guard up, not for traps this time."
It seemed that Kennil also could tell that something was off and Gaius wondered if that weird feeling of his came from seeing the enemies escaping to the second grove…

Regardless, they eventually reached it and it didn't take long for them to find the group that was carrying the pieces of the siege weapons. They were really slow, after all.
When the group was two hundred meters away, the sound of a whistle suddenly echoed in the area… It felt like some warning or message was being spread. Still, it was too obvious to be the case. The cavalry slowed down a bit since they didn't have to worry about catching up with the targets or not now. That had been the right choice since the sound of growls began to echo and they were vicious as hell.
"This is… Sparta?" Gaius completed his own thoughts in a weird way thanks to that unusual situation.
Regardless, it took a while for the whole group to notice any real changes in the environment… Besides, they had almost one thousand riders with them, even if a dangerous monster showed up now, they could overwhelm the beast with numbers. At least that was what Gaius and everyone else thought until they saw several shadows closed in that grove.
The shadows were humanoid, but they were weirdly large and tall… at first, Gaius thought that he was seeing some bears, but the creatures could stand higher than him even while he was on a horse… they could stand higher even than the tallest of the warriors near him.
Eventually, Gaius could see dozens of beasts that were four meters tall and covered in purple skin. They weren't ordinary animals… in fact, Gaius could also see some kind of miasma leaving their bodies. He never saw something like that before, so he couldn't help but flinch in surprise and raise his eyebrows. He wasn't the only one doing exactly that, though.

Gaius opened his eyes widely when he saw those parameters… that was by the most powerful demon he had seen. The difference in strength was crazy and he didn't have time to joke around. He quickly looked around and saw fifty of those beasts… things were going to get hard.
Gaius wanted answers. How the enemies were controlling those things, how they were able to hide such beasts in the territory and without letting them be noticed by Relia and the others, but he decided to wonder about that later… while putting his bow on his back, he fired a massive large mana arrow at the heads of one of the beasts.
The creature reacted fast enough to block the attack with both arms, but Gaius expected that much… so, he made the arrow spin and pierce the arms and the head of the beast. Having a strong body and a thick skin wasn't enough to stop magical attacks. Still, Gaius had to put quite a bit of mana to make sure that he would kill the beast.
The Wrath Demon was added to the summoning list.

That skill was something else, but Gaius also ignored that when he noticed that his attack barely killed the beast and he had used half of his mana… it looked like the aura was quite something for defense purposes, after all. He had to use his head and improve his control to make sure that all the monsters would be disposed off before he and his allies became their snack.
Gaius' attacks made Kennil wake up from the surprise since he didn't expect to see an ambush where the enemies used monsters. He also wanted to ask how Gaius had enough firepower to kill a beast like that by himself, but he decided to leave that for later as well.
"Split into groups of twenty and fight them by surrounding them!" Kennil shouted. "Focus on blocking the attacks and attacking their backs."
The soldiers followed the orders quickly since the death of the first monster made all the others charge at the same time… Before long, they made their claws grow longer and sharper… getting punched by that will end up in some nasty wounds. Those were some nasty abilities that the monsters had.
"A wolverine type of monster, huh… that is quite something," Gaius thought. "Hopefully, they won't have a stupidly powerful healing factor as well..."
