Gaius felt a bit grossed out, but soon he cleaned his hand after smashing the spider. Once he returned to his cradle and felt his hands burning after climbing the rope, Gaius sighed. He didn't know if he should be thankful or bored that the start of his new life wasn't that exciting… he knew about a threat that the village was facing, so he had to be careful and thankful.

Over the course of the next few days, Gaius' leveling-up speed increased even though the spider could only hunt other things like ants. Regardless, over the course of the next few weeks, Gaius also found a small lizard crossing the room at night, and he killed it as well.

At that point in time, he had realized that the monsters in that world were weirdly similar to Earth, so he made a mental note to ask Angela about it. Still, before he had the chance to do that, something happened… Gaius finally had the chance to check things outside since his mother took him out.

Before leaving the house, Gaius had the chance to check the kitchen and the dining room. The house wasn't that big, and naturally, there were no electronics or magic tools… maybe they didn't exist in that world, but Gaius felt a bit disappointed after confirming that everything was made of wood…

When Gaius left the house in the arms of his mother, he saw that the village was actually pretty big. It was practically a small town already. While there wasn't much organization when the people built the place, at least all the houses looked similar. They weren't that bigger than Gaius' home either. All of them were made of wood, and a lot of straw was on the top of them to help fight the rain when necessary.

The village didn't look that rich, but no one looked poor either. They had enough to get by regarding clothes and food. In any case, a lot of people greeted Kaira while they were coming and going since she barely left the house out of fear for Gaius' health. They were people of all ages, but most of them had black hair and deep brown eyes.

"Nothing fazes you, huh, Gaius," Kaira asked, a bit confused. "It is the first time you see so many people, and you don't look scared."

It would be weird if Gaius could reply… in any case, he soon got used to the scenery. Most of the things were brown around the village and green outside due to the trees and tall vegetation, but instead of looking at either, Gaius looked at the sky and saw some birds… adding those to his collection would be nice.

“Any more insects on my summoning list, and my class will change from limitless summoner to bug catcher Jimmy,” Gaius thought.

“It looks like you finally made up your mind about this,” Zairus suddenly appeared when the sun was starting to set. “Look, Gaius! Your papa looks cool while wearing armor, right?”

Zairus looked pretty proud of himself, but Gaius only frowned when his big head approached him. In his opinion, his father would look cool if it weren’t for that massive beard that made him look like a caveman. Gaius thought that he should shave a little… it didn’t have to look like a bush. In any case, Gaius began to push the beard.

“Ow, ow! Bad Gaius! Bad Gaius!” Zairus said.

Gaius ignored the scolding and then focused on thinking about how he could get those birds. The village had some horses as well, but it probably would cause problems for others, and he didn’t have the means to kill a horse.

In any case, from that point onward, Kaira took Gaius out of the house and let him enjoy a bit of the sun every morning. At the same time, she let him on the ground to check his condition. Since he crawled all over the place, she concluded that his health was perfect.

To make sure that his mother wouldn’t worry, Gaius stayed at the entrance of the house and didn’t move from there when she was working. Thanks to it, he learned a bit more about the village… he could see people coming and going wearing armor and carrying weapons, bringing animals to other parts of the place, and carrying meat, wheat, and other supplies. It looked like the place was self-sustainable… so the real problem was the so-called demons.

“It doesn’t seem like I am going to see them anytime soon…” Gaius thought one week after he began to watch the village.

During that time, Gaius sighed when he found a worm moving between the grass and near his home… it seemed that fate wanted to turn him into a bug catcher… nevertheless, he killed the worm and summoned it to hunt more ants. At that rate, he would end up exterminating them from the village.

"I wonder if I can learn magic… I have time until I can use my body properly, and I am already quite good at understanding the words," Gaius rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I shouldn't try to speak, though."

Gaius watched his parents for months and the people of the village for a week, but he didn’t see any magic being used. He had mana for a reason, and he couldn’t believe that it couldn’t be used for magic in that world.

“All right, I might die out of cringeness overload tonight, but I will try to use Kamehameha and Rasengan with my mana,” Gaius thought. “If it doesn’t work and doesn’t kill me, at least it will make me stronger mentally.”

Gaius tried and felt embarrassed to death, but it didn’t work… He threw away his shame and became a better man thanks to it.

He tried to look for some books in his home about magic, but there were no books there… in the end, he waited for a few weeks, hoping that someone outside would use a spell or two, but he practically gave up on it.

“Since I have some status points, maybe increasing my magic and thus my mana pool will help me use mana,” Gaius rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “In the worst-case scenario, that will be useless if magic can’t be used the way I imagine here… it is annoying since, without an example, I can’t tell at all.”

Gaius knew that it would be too much to ask Angela for some tips. She was probably going to say that she couldn’t explain for one reason or the other. In any case, Gaius didn’t have anything better to do, so he kept trying to think of other solutions. In the end, Gaius found his answer when the spider had gotten killed for one reason or another, and he had to summon it again. Since the spider had reached level two, Gaius had to use three times more mana to summon it, and after letting his energy leave his body several times, he got a feeling about it…

“I can feel it… the power!” Gaius thought. “My lack of faith was disturbing!”

In the end, it took an extra month of practice for Gaius to manage to harness his mana in the shape of a small sphere, but at least he could control it for a while, and when he fired it against the wall, it caused some damage, even though it flew very slowly.

“I guess I can increase my magic and wisdom now… even though it should have made this process faster,” Gaius thought and then sighed. “Somehow, even now, I don’t think that Angela can explain much about magic… there must be some rules to follow. If she were an old wizard full of himself, she probably would say: ‘It is magic. I ain’t explaining shit.’”

(You have leveled up.)

(You obtained five status points.)

Gaius reached level five when he was already eight months old… as expected, he had to find better things to hunt aside from ants. At least he learned other things during that time… his mana regeneration per minute was equal to his wisdom. While moving around and using his stamina, he could recover the same amount that was equal to his dexterity and perception divided by two per minute as well. He didn’t get hurt yet, so he couldn’t tell how his health regeneration worked.

“Congratulations on learning a bit about magic in this world,” Angela said when Gaius suddenly saw himself standing in that place again.

“It doesn’t surprise me that you are watching me, but it is surprising that you revealed that so easily,” Gaius said.

“It looks like you still have some doubts about me, even though your instincts tell you otherwise,” Angela said.

“Well, the synthesis of man is his chad self and his virgin self, and no man is complete without both,” Gaius explained while laughing. “I thought that my chad self was winning the battle, but it seems that… wait, never mind.”
