Last night at the Inn. I told everyone that we won't be taking quests for one or two days. The reason for it is I needed to do the errand that Russel had asked me for, but they only said that I was only making excuses and that I only wanted to scout the weapon shops...
That hurt my feelings... even though some part of it is indeed true lol.
As I thought! It took me half a day to imbue those magic crystals that Russel had asked me. The main cause for it is that I took some breaks in between sessions, you wouldn't really expect me to imbue all of those in just one try right? Cause I'm going to die if I do!
During my breaks, we all ate like Kings and Queens at different places. Taste testing the food at street stalls, diners, and even up to the fanciest of restaurants. What would you do if you have 50 gold coins in hand eh? But in the end, we only used up 2 gold coins in just a day and we still have 48 left to spare.
We now typically use about 250 silver coins and that is per week. Which is 200 for the inn and 50 for the food and various other stuff like weapon maintenance and energy potions.
A hunting quest of our rank basically lasts 3-4 days because we have to travel to where the monsters were. Unlike in low-rank where collection and hunting quests are just in the city or a village's vicinity.
Dwarven food is really nice which compliments the alcohol nicely. Oh, and the alcohol... my god... the alcohol is on a whole different level <3
The ones we drank are one of the finest that I've ever tasted. No offense to our alcohol, but ours tasted like piss compared to theirs hahahaha.
Then I heard from the dwarf that was handling the bar, that what we are drinking is for children. I was like what? You served alcohol to underage kids? He told me that the drinks that they served is mostly drunk by dwarven children, what the hell is this to them then water?
Although they have a special brew, but it is mostly served for dwarfs only. When I asked he just said that it is too strong for the other races to handle. The bar dwarf said that just a single shot glass of it will knock you out cold and you'd have one hell of a hangover the day after. At least that is what he heard and seen from the different races.
The reason why they only serve it to dwarfs is because there were already a couple of cases where people had died because they hadn't listened to warnings. The said people went and emptied a full mug and died in the same spot a minute later...
The dwarf asked me if I had wanted to try a half-filled shot glass, but I'd have to sign a waiver first. I politely declined. No thanks, I still want to keep my life thank you very much!
After I finished imbuing them, I was very tired that instead of two days it became three.
When I had my rest we went back to the adventurers guild at night to get a quest.
"Thank you, inventor!"
"Cheers to your inventions!"
"Now we can go beat those dalio bastards!"
"Ah. Hello there Angelica!" [Russel]
Among the crowd is Russel coming to greet me while holding a huge mug that was about the size of my torso. Meanwhile, I have asked Blake and the others to go to the counter and pick a quest for us.
"What is with the festivities?" [Angelica]
"Your inventions are really a hit! We've managed to sell all of them in just a single day!" [Russel]
Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation.
"The two dozen sacks?!" [Angelica]
"Yeah, almost everyone here in the village now has them." [Russel]
How the heck did he do that? I know that people liked my inventions, but I never knew they wanted them this badly... Just how much money do the people here even have?
"Heheh, never underestimate a dwarf's resourcefulness." [Russel]
I looked around the guild hall and I noticed my inventions scattered about. On the tables and counters, there were lamps with my fire enchant. Near the bathroom, there was a wash basin, now with my water enchant and up on the ceiling were my crystal fans.
"Are you sure that you've sold them to the right people? Because I haven't seen a single invention of mine from when we left the inn." [Angelica]
"No need to be tense, we are planning on delivering them once we finished celebrating. Your inventions made a huge leap for us dwarfs in the village after all." [Russel]
I just scratched my head. Having dwarfs as business partners may not be that bad of a thing. If my relationship with them gets even further. I can probably ask them to supply me with some magic crystals in the near future.
"Pleasure doing business." [Angelica]
Russel acknowledges with a nod and returns to his celebrating companions, while I return to mine.
At the counter, Blake seems to be pondering on something as he looks in my direction. Were they and Maria having problems with picking on a quest?
"What's wrong Blake, Maria?" [Angelica]
"It seems that diggers were making some problems for the village." [Blake]
"Diggers?" [Mooly]
"They said that the monsters make their home deep in the mountains and they are repeatedly attacking a nearby mining site. [Maria]
"Do you know anything regarding the diggers, Maria?" [Angelica]
"Sorry Angelica, but I have no knowledge of them..." [Maria]
"Diggers are a reptile humanoid hybrid that has hard scaly skin a long tail that they use for balance when walking upright a face that looks just like a shovel and long claws that are hard enough to break through some armor that they used for digging, hence the name. They are mostly harmless unless they are protecting something, take their nest, for example, which is probably the reason why they had attacked." [Irvine]
"What weakness do they have cane boy?" [Angelica]
"They are mostly weak to the fire element, just use any flame spell on them and their scales will retain all of the heat inside of their bodies for a long time cooking them from the inside. If you are using weapons I suggest that you hit it in the chest since it has little to no scales there. Oh and don't bother attacking its head, it is as hard as steel, and also the mouth because it uses that to chew on rocks and stuff that may damage your weapons. Also, don't call me cane boy!" [Irivine]
Ah, it seems like cane boy also has some knowledge of monstrophy. At least he isn't totally useless...
He's just like Maria when explaining stuff... but I understood a part of it so I guess he's somewhat okay.
We took the quest and moved out, what's good about this village is most of the quest objectives are just a stone's throw away. Since the village is carved out from the inside of the mountain, the mining area is just on the edge of the village through a vast tunnel network that goes deeper into the mountain's core.
We had gone to the tunnels provided with a map. It would be suicidal if you entered without one because the map tells you where the blocked/collapsed areas were or dangerous passages that you should be aware of. Just to be sure I got each of us a map and we all studied how to read it together, just in case someone gets lost or separated we designated a meeting point on the map and if they had ever lost their map I told them to stay where they were and we will look for them through groups at different sections to make the search faster.
I really am scared of going inside this tunnel because this one is not natural. As you would expect from a mine, the walls are supported by wooden beams that are old and some of which are creaking that it makes me paranoid even more. Aside from the magic crystals with Maria's Heal, I had asked everyone to bring potions with them just in case we do get separated. I also provided everyone with a fire-enchanted crystal so that they can use it on their weapons.
Using the magic crystals imbued with the fire enchant as our light source, we moved to the place that had been recently attacked, on the path were various tools that lay scattered and abandoned the miners had used. They immediately got out when the diggers attacked.
Moving closer we can hear various sounds of what seems like banging and some that are digging. Due to it being unlit in the tunnel I felt creeped out. You know that feeling when watching a movie where a thing just suddenly jumps out of the darkness and give you a fucking jumpscare? That's what I'm getting right now...
I bring my kris up in a ready position and enchanted it with the fire enchant, so if something DOES come out, I'll be ready for it. Luckily there was no jumpscares and we encountered a digger that was on all fours digging a hole. When it noticed our presence it stood up and glanced, then made a huge roar as it began to charge at us.
