Impractical Magic Chapter 104

I managed to talk Anna into it with a bit of... correction, A LOT of convincing.

"Are you sure that you wanted to trade this mythril dagger?" [Anna]

"Yes." [Angelica]

"You know, with this you can get more than just a single wagon." [Anna]

"There is nothing I can do, as we only have one at the moment." [Angelica]

Anna sighs and scratches her head. When I said that I'll trade the mythril cinquedea for the magic crystals she looked at me wide-eyed and quickly snatched it from my hands to examine it. Once she determined that it was genuine, she had almost dropped it. I wasn't worried about it getting dropped since it wouldn't even be able to dent the darn thing let alone scratch it.

I am well aware of how expensive mythril is, what I don't know is how much are the magic crystals in the Empire? The reason why I hadn't asked this is that they may make it look more expensive. Yeah-yeah say what you want. I have trust issues~

When I was finished with the transaction I asked Anna to get me a private room and bring four small sacks of magic crystals. I recommend small because the room is tiny. I let Matthew and Anna stay with me while Spencer and Jody took a rest at Anna's house.

"Hahh... here goes." [Angelica]

Inhale... exhale... now picture what enchants that I want to put in them...

"The crystals are... flying?" [Matthew]

"And they are glowing in different colors?!" [Anna]

I couldn't see what was happening as I kept my eyes closed...

Despite Anna exclaiming my concentration hadn't wavered, is it because of the shock treatment that I received from the crazy Emperor? Which led me to be able to concentrate properly?

Sigh... I better clear my head or the imbuing will fail...

After some time the imbuing finally finished.

"It took you almost an hour Angelica." [Matthew]

I nodded. Whenever I imbue a lot of crystals time seems to fly by without me noticing it. Maria, once commented that I was like in a trance.

"Wow they're pretty..." [Anna]

Anna held two crystals that were imbued with the wind and water enchant.

I noticed that most of the crystals were in their unpolished state, I forgot that back at Dalio Mrs. Helen gets them polished up from the jewelers before sending them to me, to be imbued. A lot of them would be wasted as they are unpolished. Because a magic crystal, once imbued cannot be broken into separate pieces for when you try to break it the whole crystal's effect would become null. So it needs to be polished before imbuing.

Well, it's my fault for not checking. I'll just ask Anna if they had any jewelers here that could polish them. Although I was quite surprised to see that most of the crystals here are around good/high quality, unlike those in the Republic. It may have been the location, I don't know, I wasn't even aware of where they mined theirs.

"Angelica?" [Anna/Matthew]

I massaged my forehead. Uh... I feel so tired... this always happens whenever I imbue a lot of them. It seems like imbuing takes a bit of your energy and puts it into each crystal to program your magic. Maria doesn't seem to be drained even after imbuing them, is it because she had much more energy?

"I'm fine. I only needed to rest." [Angelica]

"Here..." [Matthew]

Matthew took my hand and dropped a small item which is colored blue... I picked it up and spun it around, it looks similar to a pill.

"Is this?" [Angelica]

"Yes... its what my mother researched. It will help you recover your lost energy." [Matthew]

"Do I need water or should I just swallow it?" [Angelica]

"Either way is fine." [Matthew]

So it is indeed a pill.

I popped the blue pill into my mouth and swallowed. A few seconds later my fatigue faded and I felt re-energized. It's like drinking an energy potion.

"My mother discovered a way to create them in powdered form so that it could be stored and transported without much hassle." [Matthew]

I looked at Matthew. He always seemed dejected whenever he talks about his mother. So I rubbed his head.

Now I know why the Empire wanted to get their hands on him so badly... Something of this caliber is surely a game changer for medicine and also warfa...

I paused. Why haven't I thought of that earlier... aside from selling them for a profit. Soldiers would also be able to carry more of them, unlike potions which are cumbersome with the glass and liquid. This would be a good alternative since with the pills you wouldn't have to worry about them shattering and spilling their contents.

"Thanks, Matthew." [Angelica]

"Whew, that was entertaining to watch. I've completely forgotten how hot this room was." [Anna]

"Hot, you say? Try to think up a gentle breeze Anna." [Angelica]

"Heh, this is an enclosed room there wouldn't be a breeze h- whoa?!" [Anna]

The magic crystal in her hand glowed and released a cool breeze. She activated it nonchalantly...

"Was that because of your magic Angelica?" [Matthew]

"Yes." [Angelica]

"What do the other crystals do?" [Anna]

After I told them the functions of each crystal, Anna had immediately put them to use in the village.

I will now refer to them as the fire, water, earth, wind crystals to keep it short and simple.

They replaced the firewood with the fire crystal to cook their food because it filled the roof of the tunnels with soot, ash, and smoke which is suffocating them making it a health hazard. The water crystal solved their water shortage and cleanliness, no more looking for wells and streams.

The wind crystal circulated fresh air in the tunnel and kept it cozy. The earth crystals were used to support the roof and walls of the houses/tunnels, they also used that to expand the passageways so more people could pass through them and they again expanded the place where they raised the plants and animals.

Someone has ingeniously used one of my fire crystals and made use of the light it emitted as an alternative to the sun. I'm not sure if it'll work but I provided them with some good quality crystals just in case, so that it can sustain the same luminosity for a much longer period. I will try to experiment on this when I get back, because if this somehow works then we could grow crops/plants at a much faster rate.

I'm really happy whenever people utilize my inventions. The daily necessities of our world that we all took for granted, I will bring them here.

Meanwhile, I'm in my underwear with Anna who is tailoring my outfit at her room.

"Are you sure you want it short?" [Anna]

"Yes. Could you also stitch a pocket in between the skirt and the apron?" [Angelica]

"Oki-doki." [Anna]

Anna is such a great help. She convinced the village leader to let us stay and offered us with a few supplies, currently, we have been staying here for three days. During that time Spencer and Jody imparted their knowledge on farming and cooking which helped the villagers. Anna had also asked one of her friends whose family are jewelers to polish the rest of the magic crystals.

"Here, done!" [Anna]

"Thanks." [Angelica]

I wore the maid outfit and checked the size. Anna modified the skirt to best fit me, now the skirt is cut just above the knee. Where you can see the ends of the stockings along with the strings. It also had this hidden pocket in the apron.

After fixing my skirt Anna brought me to a storage space because I asked for a replacement for my weapon. During our walk there I received a lot of stares, not that I mind though.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

I found out that the weapons here were mostly rusted. Not one has been used since the day they were brought until they were stored and mostly forgotten. All of them are made out of iron. Most are swords and a few daggers, they were probably brought in bulk because they are all identical.

I held two swords and used my fire enchant where only the one at my right lit up, which is normal. I then slid it along the other sword, lightly touching each other enough to release tiny sparks. As if using a magical eraser the rust on the sword vanished. I learned of this when I saw a video on youtube during my past life where they used a laser to remove rust.

"You can even repair metal?!" [Anna]

"Heh, I wish that was the case. I was just chipping away the corroded parts." [Angelica]

"Could you also do it for the rest of the weapons?" [Anna]

"I will only do it if you make sure to maintain them after, it's not like what I did is permanent." [Angelica]

Anna sighs when I said that. If you wouldn't do it then don't ask for it!!

Hahh... I glance over to the tower of rust. There are about two dozen of them, this is going to be a pain... I might as well ask Matt to massage my shoulders later.

"Fire! Fire!!"

"Fire?!" [Angelica/Anna]

We rushed towards the scream and by the elevator...

"What happened?!" [Anna]

"The gangs attacked and left all the buildings at the surface to burn down!" [Village Leader]

"Say what?!" [Anna]

"Ugh! Ugh!"

The villagers are doing their best to put out the fire, but because of the wind crystal, it kept the flame alive due to the constant supply of oxygen.

"Don't inhale the fumes! Get everyone at the deeper side!" [Angelica]

It may look counterintuitive going deeper but smoke rises. So the deeper you go the safer you are as long as there is oxygen.

I knew the only thing that would ignite is the buildings on the surface and the wooden elevators. I was sure that the fire won't spread into the tunnels because the nearest door to the elevator is a hundred meters away.

"Angelica what about you?!" [Anna]

"I will handle this. Keep Matt and everyone else safe!" [Angelica]

I gripped the water crystal and used it, letting out a bluish glow. Using it at maximum power it let out a torrent of water similar to those of a fire hydrant.

~~~At the surface~~~
The gangs congregated watching the buildings burn.
"Are you sure we should be killing them?"
"There's no need to keep them alive since most of them are dead broke anyway."
"But isn't this one of the Empire's few mines where they get the magic crystals?"
"Are you worried about the corps hunting us?"
"Who wouldn't be? They are known to be merciless to the enemies of the Empire."
"We'll just have to make it look like an accident and nobody will know. The fire had probably suffocated most of them by now."
(Hssshhhh...)
"You guys you hear that?"
"Hear wh-"
(HISSSHHHHHH!!)
"The fuck?!"
A jet of water gushed out from one of the buildings destroying it and leaving an opening.
"Look at what you did to my clothes..."
From the burnt rubble Angelica emerged and shot them a question. The gang members were mesmerized by her beauty despite her having been dirtied with mud, soot, and ash.
"You have some nerve ganging up on a defenseless village." [Angelica]
As she finished her sentence she drew up an iron sword. "I shouldn't have left the cinquedea..." she whispered to herself.
"This should suffice." [Angelica]
"Hey, you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Yeah."
(Slice!)
When she had heard enough she sliced at their necks sending the two nearby gang members heads flying. Their amazement waned when they realized that the two of their guys died on the spot. She dispatches gang after gang member easily with her enchants. No matter what material or thick the weapon and armor they have she effortlessly cuts through them.
The members who had throwing knives and crossbows were soon cut down with an invisible force from the distance. Most of them survived as their armor absorbed some of the impact. While the others who were unlucky enough had their fingers severed and their exposed parts cut open.
Despite cutting down multiple people she paid no heed. Angelica was in a hurry to end it because she was worried that there are villagers who were still trapped in some of the buildings. She stabbed the downed opponents one by one and each of them died soon after when their blood gushed out from the inside of their bodies.
When things died down Angelica, scanned her surroundings she soon barfed at the sight of bodies. She counted about eighteen or more scattered around her all dead. In her head, she thought of how scary it was. She was so focused on saving everyone due to the time constraints that the thought of committing murder hadn't even crossed her mind.
Thinking fast, she used the power of the water crystal and drizzled the rest of the buildings dousing the fire.
~~~Angelica~~~

"Angelica!" [Matthew]

Matthew stepped forward as I descended from the steps that I created using the earth crystal. Patting his head as I told everyone that the gangs are taken care of the villagers soon cheered. The cheers faded once they saw bodies outside. The villagers were frightened of the fact that I was able to take out a fully armed gang while being ill-equipped and uninjured myself.

In the end, despite being grateful we were still asked by the village leader to leave...

Anna was saddened by this because I told her earlier on how I would transform the village if we had managed to stay longer. I told her that they can keep the gang's equipment while I got their money.

We said our goodbyes and continued on with our journey to the Republic... I cannot help but also feel sad for not finishing my project there, but they are probably well off by themselves without my help...

A few days later at a nearby city. Anna was speaking to a shopkeeper to sell the cinquedea she acquired from Angelica.

"I would like to sell this mythril cinquedea." [Anna]

"Whoa?! Is this real mythril?"

"Yes." [Anna]

"How much do you want for it?"

"How much can you give?" [Anna]

"Let's see..."

The shopkeeper inspected the cinquedea turning it side to side looking for imperfections, damage and the like.

"?!"

"W-what is it?" [Anna]

Anna asked when the shopkeeper became unsettled.

"Please pardon me, but if may I ask how were you able to acquire this item?"

"Someone... gave it to me because the village we are in is financially stricken." [Anna]

"I-I... see... and may I know the name of the village?"

"Nielitz..." [Anna]

"Oh, it's the mining village down at the south right?"

"You know our place?" [Anna]

"When I was young I used to pass by your village all the time."

"Ah, heheh good to know that somebody still remembers our village." [Anna]

"Now then, I'll give you 300 gold coins for the cinquedea."

"3-300 Gold?!" [Anna]

"It seems to be used quite a bit and since it's not new. I will give you the middle price for it."

"T-thank you very much!" [Anna]

Anna completed her transaction and happily walked out the shop with the bag of coins.

"Lewis."

"Yes, pops?" [Lewis]

"Could you go to the adventurers guild and request for a messenger?"

"Sure, but why?" [Lewis]

"It is urgent."

The shopkeeper took a smoke before again examining the cinquedea and at its pommel lay the symbol of the Empire Corps.
