Purity

One might think that without Supergirl to act as a guardian hero, the world would have been in a worse state.

But that wasn't true. There were 58 Daxamites at DEO in National City, each about 40-50% of Supergirl's power. Sure, they weren't all trained agents and all that, but they did have superpowers.

Which is why they called me, just after I fed Kara her morning Apple Juice.

Mon-El did, in fact. "Grey Wizard, we could use Supergirl here. Or you, if you're free."

"Sure, give me a minute." I said in a level voice.

"Sounds bad. Take care of Alex for me." Kara demanded in a worried voice.

"She is my family too, silly. Should I ask her about a child?" I quipped in a light voice, while dressing up for work.

Kara hesitated for a minute. "Let her ask for it first. She has to want a baby with you. Plus, Alex and Maggie have split up." she spoke in a guilty voice.

I might need more wisdom right now. I was speechless. "I liked Maggie..." I muttered instead. I was even willing to sacrifice myself and impregnate her.

"I bet you did. Maggie's got another man now." Supergirl answered with an ironic shrug.

I checked myself in a water mirror, noting where I could improve my magic robes and even obtain a better presence for morale purposes. A few silver trims at hems...nevermind. I was not vain.

I just added a thigh holster, with a mundane 9 mm Beretta pistol. Well, made with titanium-boron metal bits, instead of steel. My strength was a bit too high for fragile steel, especially in a combat scenario. Pass 1000 STR in fact. I could lift 50000 tons easily, with one hand.

I teleported at the DEO, to find my near-friend the Martian Hunter disguised as a human and acting as XO for Alex Danvers.

"I am Hank. Nice to meet you, Grey Wizard." J'onn offered and held out his hand.

So I punched him, right in the mouth. I have been waiting for an excuse for months. "I guess I deserve that. But someone had to keep an eye on the Daxam refugees." J'onn muttered as his face healed at superspeed.

"Green Lantern smacked me with a skyscraper. While I was saving the world from a terraforming engine. I will punch back next time." I growled as a warning, and turned towards Alex.

Alex just shook her head. "There's a plague at the City Hall. No virus or bacteria, people simply fall sick, bleeding." she spoke in a clear voice.

"Quarantine?" I asked instantly.

"Already done. But we don't know the vector." she spoke when the alarms went off.

"Spaceship just appeared out of nowhere. Right above out helipad." a Daxamite engineer shouted from his station.

Alex just glanced at me, feeling extremely confident that I could defeat any danger. "Keep us informed, Jax." she ordered on her com, and the sirens went silent.

A lithe woman wearing a superhero costume but no mask stepped out of the spaceship, and was instantly teleported by Deimos in the conference room. A magic genie was rather useful.

"Hello everyone, I am Saturn Girl. A member of the Legion. That ship is our Legion Cruiser." the woman spoke in a confident voice, while pointing up at the hovering spaceship.

"From the future?" I asked rhetorically. I didn't get to the outer system yet, but I will. After I terraformed Venus.

She nodded. "You're terraforming Venus right now, Grey Wizard. In a thousand years, the solar system will be a bit different." Saturn Girl said in a calm voice and sat at the table like she belonged.

"This is about the plague?" Alex asked after a minute of silence. They didn't give her a Director's job just for her great ass.

"Pestilence." I added with my magic knowledge and took out my favorite bottle. I could offer a drink to a pretty lady.

"Blight. In a thousand years, she will become unstoppable. Entire planets just wither and die from her power." Saturn Girl confirmed in a sour voice.

"But right now, she is not as strong yet." I mused in my glass, while J'onn performed a battle of wits and mental powers with the newcomer.

Meanwhile I just observed her Legion ring, which appeared similar to Green Lantern's ring in some aspects. And yet, I recognized some features, that I invented myself. Especially the mind-blocking parts I already used on the headband.

"My blood contains a vaccine we use to counter-act the Blight. I also have mind powers." Saturn Girl offered as sipped my whiskey and scowled.

J'onn scowled as well, possibly for losing the telepathic battle. Alex grabbed a glass as well, and sipped some booze thoughtfully. "A vaccine would be good."

I just sighed. Being smart was a curse, I swear. "You are immunized against the Blight, Saturn Girl. We're dealing with Pestilence here. Your vaccine will not work."

With a mental nod towards Deimos, I teleported the four of us at the City Hall, where a full cordon and a dozen ambulances were on site, as well as several Daxamites in hazard suits.

Alex veered off to speak with her people, while I just observed the scene. Even though the situation was dire, people appeared to remain calm, in unknowing bliss.

Which of course turned into panic as Saturn Girl conjured a forcefield around the entire City Hall, glowing azure blue.

She certainly had no idea of my real powers, I realized in a second. This was great. If a thousand years from now I kept myself hidden, I must be doing really great. Or be really dead, a second thought came to mind.

Bad thoughts! Go away smart me.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

"Take the shield down, Saturn Girl. You're spreading panic." J'onn demanded in a warning voice, only to shut up when I pointed a finger at his face. "Or not..."

"I think you missed the part about entire planets dying, Hank. Earth is also a planet." I said in a sad voice.

"You were rumored to be strongest hero in the universe at some point, Grey Wizard. I see that even this early in your career, you don't disappoint." Saturn Girl noted in a slight praise.

"Don't confuse the timeline even more, Imra_Ardeen . Let's take a few blood samples." I demanded instead, and pointed my finger at the Martian Hunter again. I hope he received my warning.

Alex was stuck outside the barrier, but this was perhaps for the better. I may need to incinerate everything and everyone inside.

As we were working, a white-coat doctor lady approached us, holding a folder and looking really professional. Also lit up my Observe screen with a dozen warnings.

So I drew out my pistol and shot her twice in the head. The bullets struck her forehead and just fell down with no effect. Kryptonian. Worldkiller. Pestilence

"I was discovered so soon? What a pity..." Pestilence growled and transformed, magically shedding her human appearance and clothes, donning a skin-tight suit and a wicked make-up almost instantly. Magic powers too.

A Kryptonian with magic powers was bad news indeed. Basically it covered their main weakness.

Saturn Girl reacted almost instantly, moving at superspeed and holding Pestilence in a telekinetic sphere, then throwing a dart at her chest.

I just watched, knowing it wouldn't be so easy. Although I was quite interested in the contents of that dart. Something really exotic that I couldn't make sure I got right.

J'onn just stood there, almost as if paralyzed, by fear or indecision. Then, just as the dart began to take effect a loud scream burst through the Saturn Girl's barrier and another Worldkiller appeared, already suited for combat.

Purity. Sonic scream. "I am the scalding light. I am the flood that sweeps away sins. I am the word and cry of justice. I am Purity." she spoke in a world-ending voice, while her eyes glowed with holy radiance.

Yeah, and that.

"Oh look, another illegal alien." my mouth spoke without me.

Then I burst into the Light of the Soul, declared a crisis and summoned Gabriel to help. Two Worldkillers should qualify as an Extinction Event, or such. My SP refilled instantly, and only used the SP drain to hold the light.

"No lightspeed today, Grey Wizard?" the archangel asked curious, as his divine radiance covered the entire City Hall.

"Punch me again, Gabriel. I dare you." I spoke in a serious voice.

"Slow time then. Green Martian, wipe the human minds of our presence. Titanian, hold the Worldkillers still." The Archangel demanded curtly, and held his palms together in prayer.

The souls of the Worldkillers ripped apart, separating them into a human body and a kryptonian soul. So I took out my Sword of Salvation and stabbed Pestilence in the head.

"Tell me about your plans." I asked in a soft voice.

"I will remove the sins of this world, and gift this planet to the Daughters of Juru as a gift, for a New Krypton. Plus, the superpowers are awesome. I can kill anyone with a single scratch." the human doctor spoke in a demented voice.

Fine! I flared my Dark Magic and drained her lifeforce. Gabriel did something towards the floating soul, making it contract into a fistfull of black rock. Black Kryptonite. Some weird angelic magic I could barely glimpse as it happened at lightspeed.

Then I moved to the other Worldkiller and stabbed her too. "Tell me about your plans."

"I will walk across the land and the blood of the weak will water the new world. I will eat your heart and rip apart your bones and organs, pathetic human. " Purity pleaded in a truthful voice.

However, there was something off this time. A slight doubt.

"So you're willing to murder your fellow humans for some alien priests? Give them our planet as a gift?" I asked to make sure.

"It's not me! I am Julia! It's that monster inside my mind." the woman pleaded as Gabriel spread them further apart.

"I see." I said and focused my Light of the Soul on the hovering Kryptonian soul. Slowly, it began to erode, so I added the cleansing spell I learned from Gabriel himself.

Only this time I wasn't casting one spell at one time, but three. Almost like tri-dimensional spell converging on the alien soul from all sides.

"Oh? Already at that level? You might be a more gifted wizard that I thought, Grey Wizard." Gabriel observed with mild praise.

"You could help a little. This is hard..." I muttered as my brain began to hurt.

"You're doing great in fact, especially against a divine shadow of Yuda Kal. Luckily most of her followers are dead now, so she can't share too much grace." Gabriel said in a light praise, but still didn't help.

I thought about my spell for a minute, and added a fourth vector, shifting the time arrow in reverse. Then drew on my idol at maximum strength, and compressed Purity's soul into a finger sized crystal, also black with a violet glow inside.

Gabriel laughed angelically and vanished. I'll smack you next time, golden boy.
