“How come you are here? It's not even 8 AM.” William asks, talking to Roman.
“I never told you the time I would come, so here I am. It shouldn't be that long, tough. For the past hour or so, Mi-Yung makes good company, and I've even had a meal. That's win-win in my opinion.” Roman argues without shame, while Mi-Yung is behind the counter and chopping some vegetables and bread.
“That makes sense...” William says, finding nothing wrong with it.
“Anyway, William. How are you feeling? I left you in quite a state yesterday, and I was unsure how you would feel today. You know that the 10 days of this training is mandatory, do you?”
Roman's unexpected care surprises William, who takes his seat at the table.
“I feel great, actually. I took a great bath last night and had a proper sleep that can change a man for sure. Isn't there a saying like that?”
“No clue, but I am glad you feel great. I had a great conversation with Mi-Yung about certain things. I will continue training you at my current pace, while you can rest if you feel any kind of restraint or too bad. Your System... oh... I forgot about certain things... Hopefully, it will be resolved today.” Roman says in an awkward manner, while he couldn't escape the turning Mi-Yung and her gaze.
“Simply put, try your best. That's what you have to know and that's what this is about,” she tells William, placing the plate that has been the occurrence of every morning before him.
After munching breakfast in no time, William is very glad for a time like this, even though the rest of the day wouldn't be like this at all.
After all, he did not drink all that much yesterday, and he even forgot his bottle in the bunker.
“Thank you for taking me home, at least.” William voices something he has to say, knowing very well that he must have fainted or fallen unconscious.
“No need to mention that. It was probably a hectic day for you... so let's continue where we ended, shall we? Yea, and let's not repeat that while we are at it.”
William gets shivers down his back and couldn't help but helplessly nod. Though it matters little, as the meal is finished, and all he could do is watch Mi-Yung's smiling face while being dragged by Roman away.
“Damn... that's kidnapping!” he complains out of the building.
“At least you can complain. Now, let's go. The same Bunker as the last time.” Roman orders and, without glancing at William any longer, he begins to run toward the location.
William sights, as this man leaves him no chance at all. How in the hell he is supposed to keep the track of Rank 7 Walker who, even without the Emblem, is stronger, and faster than any ordinary human?
William is no different in the fact that he is Walker as well, but there are differences even among them. In all senses of purpose, the fundamental progress and improvement that he will make in the following 8 or so days will help him a lot. In fact, the follow-up after this will be the true start of his journey, causing him to make tremendous progress in the following months. Such, that it may surprise him the same way as Roman's speed.
Alas, he could only complain to himself now, so he decides to run towards the location of the Institution of the Emblem, following Roman steps. That's what he can do since Roman is already gone.
William struggles, before stopping in his track before the massive structure of buildings, and gasps for breath. There, Roman is waiting for him on the bench, unbothered. “What took you so long?” is his unyielding, yet for him, funny question. Huffing in unsteady breaths, William wishes he would curse this man, but can't.
Roman already begins to walk into the building without giving William a chance to catch his breath. Walking behind the Roman inside, William catches him just before walking down the corridors that he would never understand. Getting lost in the massive building is the last thing he wants.
“Huh... at least wait for me... I would never find you in these corridors.”
“You've been through these corridors yesterday. Don't you remember the path?”
“Who do you think am I? I don't remember a lot of stuff...”
“Nevermind.” Roman chuckles and in about 10 minutes of walking, the pair reaches bunker number 5.
Inside, William sees the empty space once again, with the same destroyed pattern from yesterday. He even notices his bamboo bottle in the middle of this space, resting, but not destroyed, which is great.
“So? What do you have to say, Roman? Anything important for today, or what?” William asks after retrieving his bottle.
“Today's menu is obvious. I actually figured out my mistakes, so figuring them out from the last day is the first thing to do. It's about the further Skill information and messages of the System. They should be there since you managed to accomplish pretty significant stuff last day. I forgot about them in the glances of the first day... and your annihilation, so that's my excuse. The second thing is a continuation of the Skill training, which amounts to the basics you have to figure out, while the Annihilation will come later. The Inner enchantment is good by now, so you will do the Touch of Vectors, and while we are at it, you can start comprehending the skill as you did with the Type section of your System.” Roman says, glancing around the bunker for some reason.
“Great... Will it be difficult to like figure out the Emblem Type? I hope there won't be some Annihilation problems..”
“I doubt so, but I will force it away if I will have to. As for the Skills, it will depend on what you want to actually do. There is one fundamental truth in any of the Skills. Are you aware of the Rank-Ups?”
“Not really.”
“There are many ways it's achieved, but the brief and beginner Rank-Ups are fairly simple. You have to figure out your Skill and reach Rank 1 in most of them, while Rank 2 in a few wouldn't hurt as well. That's where the expertise and talent come in, and the decisions are important. You can focus all your attention on the Skills you feel are the right fit for you and can achieve the best results with your full attention on improving them. This isn't a bad choice, and most Walkers do these things in this manner. The balancing factors are mitigated by this method, but having any kind of overpowered Skill than the rest is a great way to kill higher Rank monsters.”
“Oh, so you can do it this way? That's like maximizing the Skill to the best effect while also maintaining the same Rank. Is that right?”
“Yes. It pretty much guarantees some form of defense against the higher Rank Dark beings and the ability to strengthen your comprehension. Of course, if I am talking about stuff above the 5th rank, it's getting complicated. The best example I can give you is if some offensive or defensive Skill reaches rank 7, while the Walker is still Rank 6. In this sense, they can use it against the Rank 7 monsters with great effectiveness, and in some cases, make mild results against Rank 8. It's quite simple in this way, and every Walker is like that. Skills are that important.”
William nods in silence, while Roman's words sound very truthful indeed. He isn't even shy to admit the reality of Rank 8 monsters, which is surprising to William, since Mi-Yung was reluctant to tell him about it.
Even though its basic numbers and reality that any kind of Walker has to acknowledge. Of course, he could imagine the higher stages among the Dark beings, but as for what they entail, he doesn't dare to think about them. That's the same with the Walkers, and how powerful they can get. William long ago realized the fact of importance in power and Skills are the key.
Anything else is secondary.
So, William does the simple thing. Folding his arm forward and summoning his System and the Emblem with an open fist. The same old System appears with the same explosion of Vectors from his right arm.
William grits his teeth and the feeling of his right hand is still numbing within this action. It only gets better when the matter ends, and the Emblem calms down after making the full circle around William's hand, back and shoulder.
“Feeling better now?” Roman asks in meaning.
“What should feel better? You mean this Claw?”
“Doing so for the first few hundred times is never a comfortable feeling. It's almost very foreign when you do it at the begging, and it gets better when you do it as many times as to get familiar with it. At some point, it feels as natural as peeing, if that makes sense. I would say in a month, you won't bat an eye about summoning your emblem any longer.”
“That's at least some good news. Let's see this System then... It should be different in the Skill department, am I right?”
“Yea. The process of comprehending the types could reveal some hidden Skills and effects. Your Annihilation should also include some stuff, but you should see it for yourself. I don't know how could have I forgotten about it.” Roman shakes his head, embarrassed by such a poor mistake.
“We are still humans... Let me see myself then.” Wiliam decides and flickers his hand in the other section down. He could still see the sector of his Type being much bigger and more detailed. That caused the Skill part of this sheet to be hidden within the system. One has to scroll down or flick his hand to the other page to unravel them, which is rather bothersome, and strange, but it is what it is.
And right it is. In fact, Mi-Yung was right about this, and the Skills aren't the same as before. There are few additions, while there are even parts to his Skills, which surprises William quite a bit.
The detailed steps are better visible, and he could see them much better than before. Skills and new details have their own small section, but they had to be viewed within the message of the System. It goes outside of the core Status Sheet, which acts as a viewing thing, and it doesn't change, nor act with new things right away.
One had to view and act with the new messages sent by the Mindless Eyes, or by the System. In this way, it's like a confirmation of the will, and the changes can go from the System to the Status Sheet.
All it needs is a simple agreement through the Mindless Eyes, and the Skill would improve, and details would be revealed.
Touch of the Vectors - rank 0
Type: Universal
Vector Claw - rank 0
Type: Offense
Inner Enhancement - rank 0
Type: Offense, defense, support
Vector Affinity - rank 0.
Type: passive
Velvet Eyes - rank 1
Type: offensive, support
Then, the following are things that are the true changes.
Annihilation Element - Rank 1
Type: destruction
New Ability of the Annihilation: the flow of the Element is wilder and stronger. Universal usage of the Element is better. It is not possible to allow the user to strengthen the Annihilation that flows in their veins.
The Feel of the Annihilation - Rank 1
Type: supportive, passive
Ability: Allow the user to change the strength of the Annihilation Element. Body, and out.
Note: the further steps and strength depend on the use of improvements. One has to be familiar with it and comprehend the feel by himself.
Dangers of going out of control: high
William reads it all and even has to scroll through the System. He tells Roman what he gained, and it causes him to nod in silence. There are only two differences, and both of them revolve around the Annihilation Element.
“Nothing about your Revolver Shard?”
“Nothing. Just those two. I checked it thrice just to be sure.” William conforms to his guesses.
“Very well. This answers the important questions. Your Emblem is indeed special regarding the Annihilation Element. I will do the explaining through me, as an example. I have the same Element as you, but it's by no means that wild, or hard to flow. It's something along the lines of shadows, and Annihilation. Let's say it's almost like corrosive winds, but that's not the correct term as well.” Roman explains.
“Anyway... Back on tracks to you, William. This Feel of the Annihilation sounds great. Having such a supportive Skill means a lot. Use of your Element and its control should be handy, but one has to be careful first. Mine doesn't have that, but I have something that does basically the same thing. It's called Vector's Flow. It allows changing the strength of the Vectors and the corresponding strength to change according to my will. What do you think that means?”
“That you can change the Vectors, who have the Annihilation Element? It acts the same as mine?”
“Yes and no. Mine had to be strengthened slowly, rather than feeling the Element in itself. The former ranks of that skill can make some mild changes, but the flow depends on one's comprehension. The Feel part is the most intriguing in your case. At its core, it should be much better, since it acts with the Element in mind and not the basics of the Vectors. Got it?” Roman asks, talking to stupefied William, who could only glance at his System.
“Yea. Take it slowly. With this being done, return to the training as normal. This little Skill that you have is great, and you should definitely try to use this type of power in the upcoming days. I will make sure of it, alright? It's revolving around the Annihilation, so that's perfect for me.”
William nods while still watching the System. No matter what, this is the end of the scrolling, so he assumes it's the end of his gains.
William walks towards the destroyed part of the ground and sits on the flat surface that was surrounded by his Vectors from the last day. It's about 8 feet meter radius around him, while Roman sits out of this radius to observe William.
By now, William closed his System and instead utters the obvious.
“Arise.”
