Turning to William, Roman gestures for him to walk into this room, and not waste time. “Make yourself comfortable in this place. This will be the place where you will spend the next 9 days.”
Feeling slightly nervous, William ceases his hesitation away by walking further into the bunker. Even Roman's gaze seems a bit different here, but he doesn't know why it seems that way. It is definitely reasonable to be a bit nervous since this man before him was quite a teacher in the Academy.
Wiliam knows nothing much about him since Mi-Yung made only a small introduction to him. For him, getting to know new people isn't the easiest. It has been the case for most of his life. It took some time to get comfortable with Mi-Yung, while Luke... is Luke. As for Roman? He feels to be more nervous since the reasons for this whole situation are pretty damn important.
“W-what should be done first?” he asks, clutching his fists behind his back.
“A simple talk,” Roman replies unbothered. ”Begin with some points about your System, Emblem, or whatever else you have. Wait, since you have the most important thing already, let's not waste more time and begin with the System.” He explains a tad more meaningfully.
William nods and begins to ponder what to tell first about it. “I don't know what to start with,” he replies, not figuring out the first line of thoughts.
“Huh...” Roman sights. “That's quite normal, I guess. Let me get this straight with you. The general view of the forceful Awakening is the inability to boot the System soon enough. 1 week is about the average time it takes. It also doesn't matter what kind of affinity you have or not, but some brief variable of mental talent is there for that. For you to have it since the Emblem Awakening... that is special, but nothing as strange as your Annihilation Element.” He explains the small information, pointing to the ground in the middle of the bunker as he finishes. “Take a seat.” Roman gestures to the middle of this concrete-walled space, which is littered with military-grade lights throughout the whole 20 feet tall ceiling.
Enormous is about the right words to describe this space. It is hundreds upon hundreds of feet below the ground of the Federation. That is this place, which acts as the worst-case prevention for evacuation. However, for the time being, it's mostly used for Walker's training.
Such is the case with William, who is safer here than on the surface. That is, at least according to Schultz's words, after considering Roman's involvement. He, who knows quite a bit about the Annihilation Element, is the prime aspect of teaching a young kid about the Annihilation Element. That goes without a doubt and since Mi-Yung was involved, he figured Roman would be the best choice.
Although the term safety isn't here for William, but for the exact opposite of him. It's to the outside factors, and no amount of care could prevent some accidents. Here, they wouldn't matter.
William copies the action of Roman, walking to the middle of this bunker. Sitting down as if none of this is his concern, he gazes at Roman, while he does the same to him.
Roman isn't one to look for reasons or doubts. It isn't like that, since the view of the reward is much stronger than something bothersome. Such as teaching kids after a long time of him, being fed up with them.
He looks at William, who is seated cross-legged before him. “Active your Emblem first. I haven't heard any report regarding it from Mi-Yung, or Schultz. I was told only about your Element, and Mi-Yung's previous words are additional information.”
Hearing his order, William does the following. Placing his fist forward, releasing his fists for the start of the show. An explosion of the Vectors follows the activation of the System. In a brief moment, the sight of the pattern of William's hand, Vectors, or maybe something else mesmerizes Roman.
Right, or wrong, he doesn't watch the Emblem in itself, but the effects of them all. The flow of Vectors is, after all, the mold for anything Walker of this type can do. It's a part of their lives, body, and choices.
Be it a sword, spear, any kind of polearm, or even basic long-range weapons, are fine. The bow is the easiest example, while the arrow made of Vectors, or metallic one, could travel with the help of Vectors, or be from Vectors in the first place. Those, however, could be quite hard to make on the early Ranks of the Walkers.
About 10 feet from him, Roman rests his elbow by his knee. Scratching his chin with his fingers, he mumbles some words only he could hear, until the last question that turns loud.
“Fascinating. It acts on itself... Your Vectors. They already have the shape of the claw, or has it been like this since the very beginning?”
“It is... I don't know. It looked like this from the beginning, is the answer.” William tells the honest truth, caused by noticing the obvious curiosity on Roman's face.
Pausing for a moment, Roman squished his eyes, observing the slow and steady flow of Vectors around William's right hand. It looks quite nice and strong for this... kind? Figuring out some strange factors, he rather asks for possible reasons. “Explain your System what you see before your eyes. Include Skills, and the feeling of your right arm in this process.” Roman orders with no choice given to William, who goes his way to tell him everything apart from his Mutant type.
Even Mi-Yung hasn't told Roman about that, so he guesses she doesn't want him to reveal that secret. Wait, is that right? Should he do that, or not? He is inclined to rather focus on simple things, while either the Mutant type or the Bestiary seems like simple things. So, William decides to not talk about it.
For the start, he goes for a 5-minute explanation of his little System, including the Bestiary at the end, since it seems not that important. Roman had very little reaction upon hearing it, so William assumes it's normal. As for the Skills, and status board, he explains what he could, since it is right before his eyes. He even includes one thing that surprised Roman quite a bit.
“Advancement to Rank 1? Velvet eyes?” He asks, surprised, but not overwhelmingly so.
“Yeah. That is the name of it. It happened yesterday when the strain of my Mindless Eyes was very harsh. I think that's the reason for that advancement. It was quite straining, but I kept going for over 10 hours with it.” he explains his more than questionable time yesterday.
“10?” Unsurprisingly, Roman shouts that shocking number. “Are you alright in your head?”
“But, I feel great... after some rest, that is.”
Calming down, Roman returns to his previous calm self. “Boy... I know the flow of enthusiasm, but breaking your life over the long hours of the Mindless Eyes isn't the best thing to do. It will exhaust you in no time, and you will regret doing so ever again.”
“Then how Am I supposed to comprehend my Skills or the System? I am passing 35 minutes of usage of Mindless Eyes, and the status sheet ain't revealing information about my Emblem.” William argues, believing that he isn't doing anything wrong by doing that. No matter what, he will continue doing so, even when Roman tells him not to do so.
“I am not saying you should stop, but at least do it in strides of a few hours, while resting for up to 10 to 20 minutes before restarting. That's how it should be done. Hasn't Mi-Yung explained it to you?”
“N-no?” he asks in uncertain answer.
“No? Tsch... I bet she wanted to see how far you can go. That's so like her. But!” Roman slaps the concrete, announcing his main words. “I am not like her, William. I am a Roman Antler. Rank 7 Walker, who survived impossible situations many times. That includes the sight of Rank 9 beings... Praiseworthy, isn't it?” he tells, puffing his chest in meaningful pride. It's kind of nostalgic for him because he used to do this all the time to make people understand his power.
William looks at the man in surprise as if the man's narcissism couldn't be more obvious.
“T-then what do you want me to teach? I don't get the full effects of having a teacher for 10 days. How am I supposed to learn something when you came here a day later?”
“You complain and wonder how? Excellent question, but a rather poor attitude. It shall all start with your Emblem. I bet it feels like a hammer around your body, or something akin to heavy armor. It shouldn't feel like that, so the main thing to do is to release some stress through normal movement. Right now, it hinders you, and even contains the Annihilation Element. This doesn't need any Mindless Eyes, but some practice with it is mandatory. You need to physically get it going, making the flow of Vectors more natural. The more full circles, the better.”
“Full circle?” William asks somewhat familiar term, but he is uncertain if he read it or heard it somewhere.
“You don't know that term?” Roman asks in disappointment, before watching William shake his head as if it's normal. “Righ... In the academy, they call it the swirl of Emblem's Vectors. It's like some kind of path from your Emblem's location in your body. See the place on your right forearm? That's the core where the circle goes until it returns, indicating the flow of your Vectors. Although Vectors look the same, they aren't. When you focus on the task of control, you can achieve a meditative state. Such is, where you can tell each flowing Vector apart from the other. It is a state where you can mold your weapon better and change the shape of your Vectors. Touch of Vector is the Skill you possess that does this. It's provided by the System.”
“Oh? That is interesting.” William repeatedly nods, feeling, and looking at his right arm.
A Claw made of Vectors makes it a bit longer, stronger, and more sinister looking through the motions of his crimson color. It almost looks like strands of rivers, but instead of water, it is full of bloody color.
Yet, it flows, and that is true in some sense, but it is too forceful and strains his body. William couldn't move his elbow and wrist, but only a few of his fingers, while his right shoulder can't move much as well.
“Go on. Try to see and mostly feel it for 2 hours, and then you will go for the Mindless Eyes training. Whatever you do, I will be looking at you.” Roman assures William, who will do as he says, but not because he is his instructor, but because of his vision as a Walker.
Gritting his teeth, William is forcing his hand to move and feel his Vectors. How he is supposed to start? He has no idea, since he doesn't feel comfortable with it at all. So, he starts with basic things that were briefly mentioned in some form of diary document on the 6th floor of the library. Feelings of the Vectors should be gradual, the slimmer the better.
Starting with fingers, he clutches them to form a little fist. Not that easy, nor fast. It took him about 15 minutes, much to his surprise at how hard it is. The claw also acted along, and make a fist as well. It is his little armor, like what Luke had when he fought the Jawran. His Vector Claw is like an extension of his body, protecting and acting around his real body. At least it's supposed to be that way.
“I will not lose to some made-up Vectors... No way.” He thinks to himself, continuing to follow the fist into more motions.
To his surprise, after 5 or so more minutes, he starts to feel groggy and restless. It's the end of his tires, which isn't like the comprehension, which can go up to 34 minutes. This seems harder since it's nothing like comprehending the Type. With this start of the feelings, William figures it's about that time to rest.
He completely forgot that he had made a fist motion before, and it jolts his mind just now. It seems he forgot that intentions have to be put toward these motions, and he hasn't done that before. Following his mindful call, this time, he put his fist, indicating the end of the System and Emblem. It disappears, at last.
It seems there is a need for the intent of the Mindless Eyes to do anything about his System, or maybe the Emblem itself is behind it. William doesn't know those reasons. That's why he is very well ready to manage this sort of exercise. It's all about mindful training of quenching his fist, straightening, or closing it.
This goes on for an hour until his sweat is obvious on his forehead, and his breath is getting haggard.
“Stop right here,” Roman tells.
“Right... It is hard... so hard.” William pants hard, still not deactivating the Emblem. At least, he is no longer acting up with his arm, since the Vectors and the pressure are in the way.
Noticing his unwillingness, Roman sneers inside, giving him some other topic to think of instead. “Good progress so far. Let me make a brief overview of your little strength.” he offers, getting to his feet, and walking away.
In one corner of this bunker, there are a lot of slabs of concrete blocks. Most are big as humans, while others are even smaller or bigger than that. Roman pulls a few behind his back as if he pulls a wooden branch after him. William sees that, while the strain on his right arm disappears ever so slightly, after not focusing on anything for some time.
With a thud, 2 concrete slabs end up in a row before him. Each was at least 1000 or more pounds. Some could have even 5000 if one is generous with guesses, but those aren't something Roman took.
“Stand up. Place your hand forward. Hit it. Pinch it. Slap it. It doesn't matter to me.”
“Well... better than doing so to another human being,” William says, agreeing to this small yet significant opportunity. Walking with his right hand folded before him, it is hard to straighten it all the way through, but he manages it just enough. The motion of his fist is easiest, and maybe even a few punches or rough swipes could be possible.
His posture, and walk, almost resemble when one walks with a broken arm. That in itself isn't strange, considering the strain on William's hand, that almost feels the same as if it is broken. The long use of his claw makes his hand ache, and it's hard to move in this form.
Yet, he forces his palm onto the stone that Roman previously appointed for execution.
William, to his surprise, sees how the swirling Vectors act against the stone. Swiping his Claw by the simple use of his back and leg position, he turns his upper body around to make a swing out of his Vector Claw. Destroying it, turning it to ashes, and even some parts of the concrete disappeared into the dust that falls to the ground.
“That right there is an Annihilation Element at its base principle. It's also the reason I am here. Mine's the same. A little rarer element than others, but quite unyielding and deadly. It doesn't care about any nepotism, friends, or foes. Even surroundings can be destroyed since it has a constant rule, or you can call it a law. It's a Law of Destruction.” Roman explains while William takes good note of his words since he feels it's very important to do that.
“With that said, you made use of your claw this time, but how about a fist? Punch it to see its raw power.” Roman offers his piece of advice, which is anything but an excuse for an order.
“Alright... I will do it.” William decides, backing away by a few steps, to prepare himself to punch the hell out of this concrete block. He chose the first one since it is yet to lose all its shape. It has a clawed scratch mark etched around its visible parts. Some are deeper, while chunks are even missing throughout the cracks.
This time, he plans to destroy it as much as he could. A fist is a good weapon, and he knows it. Motioning his fist to be firm, William plans to finish the job in the next hit.
Feeling himself up, he steps forward, with his right hand flying forward. His right foot ends a couple of feet before the block, showing William's seemingly great posture for a strong punch. The bigger right-hand needs to be considered for the right step, and directing the punch toward an unmoving target is more than easy. It's not William's first rodeo, but the use of his Emblem sure feels like it is.
Bang!
The Vector Claw travels right through the concrete block, which ends up being blown into many pieces.
William watches as his Vector's swirls destroy the surrounding flying rocks, turning them to dust midair.
