“W-what? Are you sure you mean what you are saying?” Roman asks in visible surprise, giving her a questionable look.
“You think I like to exaggerate things? I don't think so, and my Allseer Eyes aren't something that would see something untruthful. You know that, am I right?”
“I know, but still, are you telling me his Emblem can go out of his body? It can survive out of his hand and the motions of the Arcanite in his body?”
“I wouldn't call it survival, since I am unsure what it could even mean. Your guess may as well be mine. There must be some reason for this strange Emblem affinity or even the motion of going out of his hand. For example, the reason why he has the Mutant type, but that is what you already guessed.” Mi-Yung goes by his words and feels like telling the truth.
“What a nuke of news... I thought there would be something more cohesive, but I guess I was wrong. William told me the details of the System change that he went through. His Vector has deep roots in the Annihilation Element as I assumed, but even this Element of his seems strange. I am unsure if it's even the same as mine. It acts... more wildly, or efficiently within the Law of Annihilation.”
“I already guessed that. Just looked at him sitting there, emitting the Annihilation as if it's no issue. At least it's not that unhinged, so I bet there is some subconscious calmness in them, but it doesn't make me any happy.” Mi-Yung points to the unconscious William. “ I bet he needs to follow the System to uncover more about his time and become much more throughout with this than us in the past. That's the same with you, Roman.”
“I know that... There will be enough time for me to see more about it, but I am not going overboard with this. If I won't see any destabilizing or something along these lines, I will leave in 9 days. It's not that I am complaining, but I am a busy man with different kinds of responsibilities. Also, I am not nitpicking your decision, that you decided to leave this for yourself. I bet not even Tom Hough would know all that much about whatever is happening to him. However, it's worth the research and maybe he does know something. There are a lot of private investigations and Tom is huge when it comes to the weird Emblems and strange cases around them.” Roman insists.
“Oh, he knows some things for sure. I already dig around myself, and it's not that hard, trust me. I already made my research long ago about it.” Mi-Yung paces back to the kitchen and sits beside the table. “ But I am not talking about them, since they are irrelevant in William's case. In his Awakening, Tom Hough himself was in the presence of his awakening when... well. It wasn't the calmness awakening to be fair, and I don't want to bore you to the death with any more descriptions.”
“Heh. You aren't boring me, trust me. I am not surprised by that fact, so let me continue what I got from today. William uncovered the section of his Mutant type, but it was blank apart from name and affinity. It is restrictive in completely uncohesive ways. I never met or seen something like that.”
“Did it tell something meaningful?” Mi-Yung asks in surprise this time.
“As with every Mutant type, his has its name. Revolver Shard. Affinity is an unknown apart from mentions of elements, offense, and defense. That's it.”
“It doesn't say much of anything... Not even the System or something? It usually does something with Mutant type, but... Even his name isn't something cohesive. Shard... Revolver?”
“Mi-Yung, you are forgetting the fact that he is a dual-type... How many of these were ever discovered? A dozen? I bet you know this case is more annoying and confusing than anything else.” Roman says. “Is there something else that you are missing to tell me?”
“Some things for sure, but I don't know what else is important in the same way as William. The system can show the answers, but he could have told you less. He is new to this, so I think his descriptions of his explanations are vague, at best. He may as well misspoken, or butcher the meaning of the System's words. It could get pretty confusing for some, so let's be patient while you are at it. Also, don't shock him so much with your tough training. Do you get it?” Mi-Yung says, looking at Roman with quite a serious look.
“Hmph! Whatever this all means doesn't imply I will stop his training. It's exciting in fact. I will come tomorrow to pick him up for another day, so feed him something nice, before he will return.” Roman says at last, while anything that Mi-Yung told him isn't all that important at the moment. He gets up from his chair and walks forth towards the main door.
“He is your little responsibility for 8 days. Are you gonna leave him here like this?” Mi-Yung utters behind his back.
“Sure I will. There is nothing much I can do anyway, so you complain all you want.”
“You... Alright, come pick him up tomorrow.” Mi-Yung stops with whatever she wants to tell and makes a final farewell to Roman, who walks from the door outside.
This leaves her and William, the lonely figures in this apartment.
She sits in the same chair that Roman used a while ago and watches William's expression for a while. Wonder in her mind, she couldn't see much wrong in keeping any secrets regarding his condition, which is hard to explain. It could be a new beginning of something great like his father, but as far as she knew, Victor wasn't any Mutant.
“Ahh, whatever this is, I am long past the redemption. It's not like the Federation did something behind the scenes with him, and they indeed didn't do shit.” Mi-Yung sights, and pulls her cheeks around her chin while resting her elbows on her thighs. “Roman did praise him, so that leaves him quite talented if it's coming from him of all people. You did great... great,” she tells in assurance, but it falls on William's uncertain ears. He is dreaming about whatever he could, or couldn't.
Even after another hour, he has yet to wake up.
The chair is on the brink of the last stand. The destruction is almost making the chair unstable, which leaves Mi-Yung a bit helpless.
“Why it's so damn activated... Does it really mean his Emblem can act on its own? Emblem's instincts or whatever it can be? I can see that happening, but I have never seen it in person. It could mean all sorts of things I would rather not know. Gosh... I am tired as well, but I can't leave him like this.” she complains in her mind, and before she knew it, the door opens with another person attending to this charade.
Luke appears and in a similar fashion to Mi-Yung, he too notices William on the chair. The clear vision of crimson light follows this night kitchen from William's Emblem and claw.
“What in the actual fuck? What do we have here, Mi-Yung? It's rather cozy with such an ambiance of color, don't you think?” he tells to ease the frown on Mi-Yung face, who just notices his presence.
“Oh, you are back! Help me with this boy... I don't know what to do with him.” Mi-Yung shoots up from the chair, hugging Luke in return.
“I can see that... What is wrong with him? Is he asleep and his...?”
“Forced unconsciousness with still activate Emblem....” MI-Yung unwillingly adds.
“Oh? Roman's idea I suppose. Why is his Emblem active?”
“Beats me.”
“How long is he like this?”
“Couple hours I suppose.”
“Huh... I guess I will wake him up. It's so late already, and neither of us has time for this. William included.”
Before Mi-Yung has a chance to retaliate, Luke shoves her aside, walks to William, and slaps his face in quick and light motions.
Unknown to his effort, the Vectors charges at his hand, leaving small cuts on his fingers, and palm.
“Damn... Frick.” Luke complains, but the slap is at least successful and Willem falls down in his chair, which crumbles to many pieces. His face is met with the floor, and no amount of things can change that.
Alas, Luke's idea wasn't all that bad, and soon enough, the grunting of William's voice comes from his mouth.
“Uh... Uhhh. Whhatcha this...”
At this point, Mi-Yung couldn't be bothered by Luke's idea. Instead, she walks towards William and notices the swirling motion of the Vector's calm amidst his waking up. They calmed down, but not so much for it to be considered normal.
“You awake?” she asks while shoving Luke away as if he is a speck of dirt. That leaves Luke smirking, but he curses in silence since the stinging pain in his hand isn't the least bit comfortable.
“What... Mi-Yung? Am I in heaven? I swear I am too young for this...” he mumbles in whatever words come to his tired mind. For now, he just finished his training and felt tired. Roman was indeed not the least bit nice to him.
“I think you are pretty much alive,” Mi-Yung says, observing his right hand closely.
“You think? So there is a possibility I am in heaven? That's great. Good.” William mutters at last while embracing the cold floor made of smooth wood. It feels weirdly comforting to his current needs, and he feels he would sleep for eternity if he wants.
Alas, a slap to his cheek woke him up from his sleep, so there goes nothing now.
“At least stop your Emblem before sleeping... whatever problem you have with it can be solved later. Rest for now.” Luke warns William but he walked away before William pays him any attention.
This wakes William a bit more up, as he couldn't tell day from the night before. More clarity is upon his tired mind, as he sits down and feels his body. His head hurts, and his cheek too, for whatever reason. He could feel a numb feeling around his back, and shoulders and even the legs are barely stable.
“I am home?” William asks, discovering the kitchen that is his morning place for the past 6 weeks.
“You are. Roman put you in my care until the next morning.” Mi-Yung answers with a bit more truth than what William wants to hear.
“Oh, no... I am beaten... Can I even continue doing this for 8 days? Let alone the years in the Academy?”
“Are you complaining?”
“Yes, I am, and is it wrong? I am barely able to lift my right arm... It hurts like hell from the inside out.”
“Is it? Maybe you think a bit too much about it?” Mi-Yung exposes his words a bit since she knows how it usually goes like this for the brand-new Walkers. They are prone to feel everything much more at the start, and the pain is a part of it. It means whatever that is happening within the emblem and the body is working, and that's all that matters.
So, all Mi-Yung could do is lift William up with her hand and talk to him in this way.
“Roman already told me what I wanted to hear, but I wonder what is your opinion on this matter.”
“My opinion is that I want to sleep and forget about any worries,” he tells Mi-Yung while his feet are floating above the floor.
“William...”
“Alright... I can have some other things to say, but I am tired. Reaaaaaaaally tired.” Wiliam says, even though Mi-Yung is clearly not eating any of his plays.
“You did manage to comprehend the Types, did you?”
William nods.
“Anything with skills? Have you tried some of them?”
He shakes his head in denial but soon nods his head in confirmation. He wasn't that right about it, but he indeed tried some.
“Right... I bet there was more to that since any changes are usually done in whole System messages or done later. Have you scrolled down in the system, or swiped left or right while you were at it? There could be a lot of hidden content there.” Mi-Yung reveals.
William couldn't shake or not his head this time, because Mi-Yung's words makes him stop thinking. He is well aware that he did nothing that she is saying right now.
“I did not... Roman said nothing about it, even though he mentioned so many things.”
“It's no surprise he forgot about it. He was thinking about the Annihilation Element and not caring about the System all that much. That's so like him.”
“I can see that... C-can you put me down already? P-pretty please...” William scowls for his safety, as her grip stays the same. Being questioned in such a manner isn't comforting and is not up to his current tastes. Even though the motion of Mi-Yung, that is...
“Alright. I have a Final question and a task for tomorrow. Do you agree?”
William nods in confirmation.
“I want you to care more about the Skills, so do so tomorrow. You can do it even in the presence of Roman, I don't care about his vision of Annihilation. It's not like he can do it for a whole day anyway. The question is, how much affinity do you think you have?”
“Affinity?”
“Yes.”
“I did have 75... you told me that, at least.”
“I got a letter from Tom Hough tonight, just before I went home.”
“You did? Was it related to me?”
“Yes. He voiced some things about the Awakening and your... issue with whatever he saw that day. He already spent 2 days wondering about his missing, or wrong calculations, so he won't stop before it's solved. That's so like him, and he asked about some cooperation on our part. He knows nothing much will change with his own research problems. He has his data, and that's enough for him, but he asked about you. Something about a checkup of you the day before the Trial or sooner.”
“Oh... Is it something bad? Should, or could I refuse?”
“No.”
“Was it universal no, or the latter answer?”
“Who knows? Deactivate your emblem already. It's annoying me.” Mi-Yung complains since the Vectors long formed a swirling motion around her wrist and arm. Putting him to the ground, she shakes these vectors off before giving William a harsh look.
William stabilizes by grabbing a new chair, which ends up cracking by his right-hand grip. It forces him to fall down, but he manages to stumble back into the hallway before fleeing to his room. He has no intentions of talking to her any longer.
Seeing his clumsiness, Mi-Yung shouts before he left. “Deactivate your Emblem before doing anything else, remember. to do so every time before anything. Even when you lose a battle or are tired beyond your sense.”
“I swear this boy... Is he like his father? I only knew him when he was grown up... Huh... Dammit, all.” Mi-Yung sighs, and rubs her right wrist with her left. “I swear, it wanted to dislocate my wrist... That tiny speck of Emblem thinks too highly of itself. I wonder what's a true deal with it...” Mi-Yung wonders, before following her previous steps to rest for the day.
She could already hear Luke's turn, so she might as well join him there.
And she does exactly that.
