Chapter 100: Continuous efforts

“Exactly so, William,” Roman replied to his correct statement. “There aren't many non-important things when it comes to the lives of the Walkers. You have to get accustomed to this, and eventually, you will get the results over time. You have a talent for it so that is good.”

“Good?”

“Yes. Think of it like cultivating the land. You need good soil with a nutritious supply of water, weather, and care put into it. Walkers are something like that even though it's rather a funny example.” Roman explains as he sees the frowning face of William, who doesn't seem that good. He at least takes everything with a grain of salt, since his time as a Walker is brief. Still, these little bit of words makes him understand more.

“I think I've got it... somehow. The farming example makes some sense, so I guess I will continue doing what I can. Let's go for the next skills. I don't feel that tired anymore, so how about that?”

“Heh. Go for it.” Roman chuckles as he knows very well what kind of things William is going through at the moment. The first week of initializing the fusion of the Emblem and the System is the most life-changing prior to the Rank 5. The body of the Walkers goes into a frenzy while the Arcanite is fusing with the blood, organs, bone marrow, and body itself. It is making the biggest changes in the human body, and William is unaware of it.

The reason for his improvements isn't because of his effort, but because of him becoming the Rank 1 Walker.

Now, his body is becoming one step above the regular human, and this will continue happening in the next 10 days after the Awakening.

That is the true reason for the start of the Trial since the Academy doesn't need to test the weak starts of the Walkers who aren't ready for anything. Making tests too soon, or too little, could make many drastic differences, so the choice of 10 days is special in that way.

Only when the full fusion is over, the Walker stabilizes with the full effects of the Emblem. Then, the System can go into full effectiveness, making small changes, but the control and overall fusion with it are much better.

Of course, it doesn't mean that everyone can achieve that. Progress can be done in those 10 days regardless of the slow progression of the Emblem and the System, and those 10 days aren't for the sake of Emblem. They are for the Trial of the Academy and nothing else.

In fact, this is a perfect chance to perceive the continuous effects of the Emblem and the System. Walkers should try their best to do whatever they could to comprehend the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime chance. The more, the better, so once the full fusion is up, the results would be that much more noticeable.

William clenches his newly formed fist and feels much more comfortable than before. After some tries, he even manages to move each finger individually, which is a hard thing to do with his Claw.

“I wonder about something,” William asks, turning his gaze to Roman.

“What?”

“The Ability section talks about some form of usability with other molds... What does that mean?”

“Huh? It does tell that? The Skill that is able to be used in conjunction with other Mold isn't something common. Are you sure?”

“It tells me that... I wouldn't lie or exaggerate that. I don't even know what the Mold meant.”

“It means the new form of the Vectors. Mold is the general name that the System gives to new structures of the Vectors. If your hand has that... that... is intriguing... Very interesting. I will take this into consideration in the upcoming days. For now, all you have to know is that this effect of using two molds at the same time is rather taxing. It's not easy, so you won't be able to use it for the time being, but it isn't all that bad. It's a hand of yours so that means all kinds of stuff. Using other Molds with it should be workable. It means you can conjure something else when you are ready, and use it with your Vector Hand.”

“Oh?! So like a sword, for example? One massive sword, since this hand, is so much bigger than a regular one?” William assumes from Roman's words. He doesn't lie or hide anything from him, which makes him very glad to work further.

His hand is indeed quite big, even though the claw is a bit longer since the sharp points around the tip make it so. As for the mass, the Vector Hand is about the same mass as the Claw.

“Could be. Depends on your power and ability. You can't make something bigger just because you want to. It all depends on the mass of your Vectors and their limits. They are limited after all.”

“Makes sense. What can I make at the moment?”

“Your hand is a prime example. That, or you can try a sword if you feel brave enough, but you won't be able to use it with the use of your hand. It's not easy at all, since you have to manage the shape which isn't your body part. It's hard to explain in words.”

“Nonono. That is good enough. I will still try it for the sake of knowing how it feels.” Wiliam says in a brief moment of excitement and goes right back to the ground. Sitting there, he places his hand before him and closes his eyes. This causes Roman to make a helpless smile, but any kind of new experience wouldn't hurt William at all.

He knows it's impossible to use two Molds at the same time for Rank 1 Walkers. The ability to do so is only accomplished by very talented Walkers in the Academy. Though, the motion of William's potential is definitely possible to do so when he reaches Rank 2. It all depends on his continuous pursuit of the System and improvements of his Vectors.

William doesn't lack mental fortitude in the slightest and he could see his willingness to improve. Even though he complains from time to time, he managed to do everything he asked him to do, and even something extra. That puts him in an impressive view regarding the folks Roman taught in his life. And there were many talents like this as far as he knows.

Sitting down, William feels the flow of his Vectors and tries to move them away from his hand. Conjuring depends on the number of Vectors available and their control. The mind, or imagination of the Walker is also a bit variable while doing so.

William doesn't fear any kind of failure, so he goes at it, trying to form a short sword with his finger. He saw it in the museum in the library so his imagination is firm, but the control, not so much.

“It's all about feeling the connection and forming a new Mold. That sounds simple, but I bet Roman's words are more true than anything... Making some kind of object is harder for sure since my base view of Vectors isn't a sworn or some tool. It's a body part. It is unlike the hand that I made from the simple motion of my claw.” William thinks to himself and begins his full attention to move the Vectors from the middle of his Vector Hand upwards.

He plans to make a vision of the short sword fist before conjuring it from his fingers. In this way, the flow of Vectors flows out of his palm and goes upwards. It soon forms a slim flickering branch that isn't straight at all. It even flickers and sways in motion as if it could cease to exist with the slightest touch.

“Ugh... this is hard... The density of the Vectors isn't enough to make any sort of blade...” William complains out loud, as he stops the connection. He could tell there is no point in continuing anything, so he fails with it in a couple of minutes.

A barely 2 feet long shaft is all he managed before it dissipates and flows back to his Vector Hand.

Roman sees his attempt and nods in approval. “It's not a bad attempt for the first try. What you said is right. You need density and more experience in the Flow of Vectors. This will only improve over time, and I don't think you should do so in the upcoming weeks. You should think about this sort of thing after a year, and that depends on the progress of your Skill and feelings of your Vectors.”

“Year? I feel like I can do so earlier than that... It's just a tiny sword.”

“Are you sure? You have plenty of other Skills to worry about. Your claw is more than enough for your progress. It's very telling since it's a form that your Emblem decided for you.” Roman argues and makes William unhappily agree.

He is his instructor until the start of the Academy, so he has to have some restraint, but that doesn't mean he will watch over him all the time. Of course William will try something in his spare time, but for now, he has to follow Roman's direction.

After all, he helped him improve a lot, and he even includes all of his knowledge that William lacked before. Out of the respect for that, William will follow whatever plans he has for him. So, he follows the plan for today and summons his Inner Enchantment to see what he will manage today, but before starting, Roman also gives him the task. That is to use the Vector Hand with the Inner Enchantment at the same time.

The same flow of matter flows from his right hand, in conjunction with his Vector Hand. Like this, he performs two Skills at the same time, which is something Roman wants to see. His limit when it comes to two simultaneously using Skills could lead to seeing his limits much better.

And William does indeed fail before the 10-minute mark. That puts him in a weaker time than last time, but this still surprises Roman, who expected a much bigger difference.

The aftermath of this Inner Enchantment this time leaves William in much better shape than yesterday. The last time, he was already plenty tired, and exhaustion made sure to end him on the spot. For now, he is able to beat properly and even move however he can.

“Phew... Begone.” William takes a deep breath after ceasing everything to disappear with the motion of his word.

A small break is due, but he isn't one to decide that.

“3 minutes and you will do the same, but with your Claw.” Roman orders.

William helplessly nods, while relaxing for this small amount of time. He massages his shoulder and right hand, and makes some stretching to let his blood flow better.

This time, he doesn't summon his Vector Hand and remains to imagine nothing but the base view of his Claw.

The base is his claw, so he continues doing so for a whole minute before he is sure his Vectors are good to go. No Annihilation Element is going crazy, so he moves to do the same exercise from before.

In truth, the craziness of his Element shouldn't be a problem any longer. Considering the passive ability of The Feel of the Annihilation, his Element should be more submissive, but who knows? William is yet to be aware of it. It's passive, so it should work in continuous effects unless William thinks of it differently.

Though he is yet to pay any attention to the two new Skills he got yesterday since Roman is yet to pay much attention to them.

It all revolves around his Element, but Roman waits for more Skills to see. He has to make sure William's basics regarding the prior Skills are good, before doing something that came later. It's a regular practice that goes decades and he knows what to look for to make the biggest impact on William's progression.

William enters the state of Inner Enchantment, and once again, goes through the enduring process, as well as the adrenaline-like process of his enchanted senses. Although he doesn't move, his eyes feel nothing normal. He doesn't need glasses like some people, but he feels his long-range vision is clearer and sharper. His train of thought is smoother, and his heartbeat is quicker.

This goes on for longer than the Hand. Up to 12 minutes like yesterday, before William stops himself upon noticing the limits of his Inner Enchantment and his Vector Claw. Any more would be impossible, even if he wants to continue. This is the limit of his Vectors, as they cycle throughout the Inner Enchantment in tiny little ways.

It's delicate and smaller, unlike the tough Vectors that make his Vector Claw. They are small and denser than the big chunks of Vectors floating around, making the appearance of the Vector Claw.
