Chapter 41: A feast

After finishing the last piece of the topic she prepared for today, Mi-Yung could still find a few more. Ones that matter, or don't. A talk about the brief topic of Walkers that William asked about is plentiful. There are a lot more things the 6th floor has to offer but placing it upon a young Walker is not advised.

William doesn't need it as much now, so Mi-Yung's options remained for the basics he needs at the moment.

Walking outside of the room, William has a new perspective of the world of Walkers. This floor as a whole feels like the gate towards the utmost secrets. Especially the 2nd door he visited, left so many questions. The remainder of Mi-Yung that the 1st and 2nd rooms are similar but more complex in the real world than photos or documents.

As he could see, the lover floors are ones that are for normal humans, while the 6th floor is for the other side of the world. A world of Walkers and monsters.

So, from what William could understand, there is information about rank 7 and above monsters. That in itself is a terrifying prospect to him.

He could not help but shiver upon realizing there are monsters stronger than any Walker he has seen. They are out there... hunting humanity. Monsters on part with strongest Walkers in the world according to their rank.

Glancing outside to the bottom floor, William sees the bottom in a calmer look. Mi-Yung does not bother making fun of him, as her time is her own, and she is in no hurry anywhere.

Alas, while the mind is in no hurry, something is, in dire need of something. Growling sounds spreads from both of their stomachs.

“Uhm... Let's go out.” Mi-Yung orders while patting her stomach. It has been a while since she had such a hectic, yet entertaining day. Some break like this is not bad at all, but she knows all too well how important her work is.

William nods, while the feeling of hunger does not bother him too much. He could sleep through it fine, even though it is not healthy.

Sun has already disappeared beyond the horizon of the Atlantic ocean. The lamps make the Library rather cozy as the natural sunlight coming from many windows is gone. The dim light and shadows of the designs make magical and mysterious interiors.

On the first floor, Ellie, or anyone who was there since the morning, has already been replaced by the night shift. Younger or middle-aged librarians or apprenticeship students would do, according to Burton.

Walking through the entrance, a wake-up call of the oceanic gust of wind washes their faces. While Mi-Yung is long used to this, William has yet to stop appreciating the feeling of this breeze.

“What do you want to eat? It is on me.” MI-Yung asks as she is ready to satisfy both of their hungry stomachs in her own way. While not being polite about it, she has plenty of credits herself. Being in the position of Assembly has certain benefits to that. One is her long reign and growth since the starting points of the Federation. After all, Victor Gale let her come here young. Both her and the Federation.

“I will eat whatever,” William says with no preferences.

“I will take your word for it. Let's go.” Mi-Yung's hair flickers behind her back as she walks at a faster pace into the streets of the Central District.

As she expects, a lot of people are here the same way as usual. Many interesting food vendors and restaurants are open on every corner. It is quite a nice evening when the moon is almost halfway through its cycle. Many people stroll through this city as eating out is considered normal, while cooking is for those that have time. The normal working class will rather pay for food to be ready, while the work can be exhausting.

William follows her back at a steady pace. Glancing from time to time at the shops as well, he is already smelling the surrounding food. There are vendors who are selling sandwiches, barbecues, fruits, tea, and many more. The kebab was his favorite, but in the federation, it seems there is more meat. William finds it not that surprising, but pleasant.

There is also a lot of food that he never heard of. Many kinds of fish, strange fruits and so on. Examples of restaurants are even more intriguing. With names, symbols, and buildings that make them unique from ordinary vendors. He looks in the direction of Mi-Yung's walk which is a restaurant with a couple of floors. Called Pit, it is a place that serves a lot of people every day. In hundreds of people, to thousand in some special cases.

And that is the shop Mi-Yung chooses.

“Pit? What is this? Why this place?” William asks while walking through the entrance after Mi-Yung. Unlike vendors on the streets which could have open restaurants or small corners, this is an extraordinary building. Most vendors and smaller restaurants are the sizes of a room. Certain building complexes are made of only food vendors, but this building is the exact opposite.

It has a lot more style than that, and the opening led to many individual places to sit, for up to 8 people. Each sitting area is in a private area with small wooden walls, which makes it private enough. As for the meals, that will be without a doubt extraordinary.

Nice materials make this whole place like a luxurious hotel. Detailed lamps, big and luscious sofas, and furniture look very good.

“I like this place. Why not?” Mi-Yung glances around and feels like it has been ages since she was here.

“Greetings, dear customers. How can I help you?” A young-looking waitress greets the pair. With a uniform resembling the dark red of flame colors, she even has an apron on herself.

“Room for two as well as well as a summoning of head chef Rosewood.” Mi-Yung points with two fingers while looking at the girl with a smile.

“I... I don't think the head chef does these services, miss.” she tries to excuse herself, but the glance of Mi-Yung left her apprehensive.

“Then tell her Mi-Yung is hungry. Now go.” she shoves her away while grasping the shoulder of William, who rather remains silent amidst this fierce woman.

Even Madame Anderson has never been like that, and she has quite a ferocious face. Unlike her, Mi-Yung is like the fierce tigress that pounces at the enemies while playing with her friends however she likes. Such a carefree attitude. He could not understand it, nor dislike it.

Dragging him around a few corners, she tosses him to a chair. A particular smaller seating area for two people is in one corner of the restaurant. Not that big, but away from everything. There is a big table between rather small cushioned chairs.

Taking a seat herself, Mi-Yung rests her chin with her hand and waits for her massage to be delivered. Without glancing at William, she knows how to deal with this little place.

“Ehm... Miss Mi-Yung, what sort of food is here? I would rather rest while having something quick rather than spend unnecessary waiting here. It is such an expensive restaurant. Eating out from some vendor is fine.” William tries to excuse himself and his manners. He saw the prices by the counter. Dozens of credits for feasts... That is very expensive for him at the moment. He doesn't like the feeling of being in debt to Mi-Yung that much. Even though she is offering him a single meal and that's it.

“What! And here I thought I am being generous enough to eat out after a long time. Is the Pit not to your liking? There are a lot of meals. From beef, pork, chicken, and even some exotics fish. They serve here quite a famous soup in the Federation.” Mi-Yung explains as if she is explaining the biggest and utmost important topic.

Growling sounds from William's stomach are betraying his expectations or any left excuses. He could only accept her words and wait it out in bitterness.

In a while, a red-headed woman appears in front of the table, with crossed arms around her ample chest. Wearing the hat of the chief, and a tight, thick apron of some brown leather around her working attire. She wore a stern face, with a rather youthful face, unlike her body which is quite tall.

“Who do we have here? Is the apocalypse starting again or the end of the world is near?” She glances at the Mi-Yung with a none bit of politeness.

“I haven't come here in a long time and that is how you treat me. I will turn sad in return if you continue to treat me like this... Rose.” Mi-Yung tells her in a sweet tone with her intentionally done bewitching voice.

“You... I swear I would never treat you without kindness. The same as usual, I guess? I will let you eat the best meals until you will moan with satisfaction! Do you even have a guest with you this time around? What is this getup? Who is this little guy?” Rose leans forwards while her words were barked at this pair without a stop. She looks at William, who gulps down through another gaze of terrific women.

While sitting himself, William finds her quite towering over himself. She must have more than 6 feet in height.

“G-greetings, Miss Rosewood.” William greets this woman while feeling unsure about her gaze. Was she picking on him, or did she dislike him from the get-go?

“Polite lad? I see. Let this be then. What do you want, Mi-Yung?” Rose turns her head to face the opposite guest on the table, with a complete 180 with her expression. Wearing a big smile, Mi-Yung was a much more interesting person for her, after all.

Mi-Yung rests her elbow on the table while rubbing her lips with her fingers.

“I would love something... delicious. Any kind of top meal would suffice, don't you think Rose?”

Blushing, Rose clears her throat while turning around and saying.

“As you wish milady! It is according to our promises and your wish.”

“Heheheh. She is quite easy.” Mi-Yung mumbles in a good mood as Rose left for the kitchen.

“Do you know each other?” William couldn't help but ask.

“You could say so. After all, this little restaurant is mine. Although, partly because of some issues.” She answers as if it is the most casual thing in the world.

“O-own...”

“Don't think of it as a bad thing, William. I provide a lot of money to some people thanks to the early years I spend in this place. I worked quite hard for myself in these foreign places.”

“I... I am not judging you. I am surprised by this. That is all.”

Such a place must be quite expensive, and William is hesitant to ask some more. As unexpected as everything, the food takes only a couple of minutes of waiting before it's on the table.

Rose serves this distinct table, which is further from any other table. Any talk would become obsolete in this kind of atmosphere. Plates upon plates of thin cuts of meat, with many kinds of side dishes as well. There is pork belly, and thin cuts shoulders, while a few beef steaks are still raw on the plates.

At last, the round table reveals an empty place in the middle where a desk is removed. It is a dull place for some kind of pot, or anything. William watches as Rose places a special pot of smoking hot charcoal inside this table. Then, on top of it, she put metallic thin plates, which resemble fish nets.

William already couldn't conceal his growling stomach, with this sheer will alone. He is grasping his lower abdomen to ease his waiting.

With all the waitresses away, unexpected as the meal is, Rose sits beside Mi-Yung' who has no place for another person. Knitting her hair, she looks at Mi-Yung in a strange look of play.

“Y-you... promised me some things back then. Will you..” she mumbles.

“... I don't think I will keep this promise for today, or.. would you wait for later?” Mi-Yung, from a close distance, caresses her cheek with her finger, while Rose looks more than pleased already. Though she could look around her middle twenties at worst, her face is still lacking behind. As for the Mi-Yung, William couldn't figure out her age, but she is not below 30 for sure.

“A-alright. Later than... I will wait.” Rose gets up and walks away while keeping this pair to their own passing. A bit sad at herself, she couldn't help it.

“T-this... We cook for ourselves?” William voices his main concern after Rose left. The play of her and Mi-Yung could not make him more uncomfortable, but the meal before him was more enticing than any woman. He doesn't want to know what goes between those two women at all, but he sets his priorities.

“Yes. This is known as barbecue. This one in specific is resembling a little piece from my homeland that I had to remake here. It was quite a bit of work and credits, but it was worth it in the end. Hop in, we will take the salt and put it on some meal first. Cooking the meat on top of the grill is a longer process, and proper seasoning is important.” She explains while taking tweezers and placing plates of meals on top of the grill. A few sprinkles of fine salt is all she needed.

A sizzling sound spread out, with a small amount of smoke from the grill. It escapes into the unnoticed window above the table. so no smoke is an annoyance in such an indoor restaurant.

“Smells incredible,” William mumbles while a bit of saliva escapes his mouth.

“Right. These few pieces of thin slices of beef and pork will be the fastest. You can add a bit of salt and eat it with rice or on its own. There are also some oil sauces aside, with some pepper and spices, to make it more interesting.” Mi-Yung explains while pointing everything to William who already holds the knife and fork.

“Note that it needs to be turned around, so the meat will be evenly cooked. It is a problem with the steaks, which need at least a few minutes with a few flips. Let me show you.”

A show began in front of William's eyes, while the most distinct fun has his mouth. This feast that could have not been imagined in his eyes, has been lessened from 10 plates of meat to only 1 in 15 minutes.

As for the side dishes, they are sufficient, while the rice tastes best with the pork belly and grilled vegetables.

William's mind, mouth, and stomach are satisfied at last, while he never expected he would ever eat something so delicious in his life. A small tear even leaves the corner of his eyes, which goes unnoticed by Mi-Yung who is also thrilled to be here.
