Chapter 78: News of the Mutant type, and offers of the Organisations

All foreigners in this place know and are proficient in the English language to high standards, otherwise, they wouldn't come here at all.

“I see no reason why he shouldn't be allowed anything. The threshold is 70, so he is free to try,” Schultz tells with an unbothered voice while rubbing his tough beard with his palm. It barely moves through his touch.

“Yet, I wonder if there are secondary offers. It is a common practice, miss Song. Is that fine?”

“Of course, sir Shultz. Others can offer their words to William about how they see fit, but I will still act as a proxy.” Mi-Yung tells back, but there seems to be no response from Margaret at all. She, as a voice of the Academy, should have been inclined to refuse or think of something else, yet she has done nothing. Mi-Yung knows that that woman is most likely waits for another choice and a second briefing.

“No need to fear. Everyone here is respecting your choice, miss Song,” Schults tells while giving everyone a customary look.

It causes Mi-Yung to smile awkwardly, but that goes along with him, being her boss. Though, too much respectful choice is a bit too much to expect, since she isn't even Rank 7.

Due respect is a form of powerful, while weaklings are leftovers.

“In that case, I won't be polite. I offer 350 credits a month, while certain benefits within the first 2 years.” Cloud proclaims without hesitation.

“Nice joke with too little.” Mi-Yung shuts him down, while Cloud's creeping smile lowers only a little.

“400 with pressuring position in the Hunter's C list.” A slim-looking lady tells in a surprisingly strong voice from the right side of the tables. The one, which belongs to the Hunter's Association.

“Only C list? Not B? Do I look like a joke to you, miss Nagoya?”

“Not at all. The base premise of going to the B list is possible if he has the ability.”

“Interesting... Anyone else.”

“Wait for a fucking minute. I won't stand being shut down by miss Nagoya! Since his father used to be in one of my divisions, I won't be polite any longer. 500, with guaranteed rank up to captain when he reaches Rank 4.” Cloud shouts as if he feels like a winner.

“This is not a competition, Cloud.” Schultz looks to his right, where is Cloud, looking in the direction of lady Nagoya, who isn't even batting him an eye. Total mayhem of relations and plot is shooting left and right among the few Walkers.

Such situations occurred many times already as this is the premise of the Examination and reaching a certain level of recruitment. At this point, it doesn't even seem all that strange to them, while the youths are left in a state of uncertainty. Talk about prices, and benefits are for the Organisations to decide, and Walkers are then... like a piece of goods, brought to the organization. Quite simple, but that's how the world works.

William would be no different if it wouldn't for Mi-Yung, and his own research put forth for this moment. He knows every organization at each table because they have a sight of the name below the tables. Probably for the less knowledgeable Walkers, since a lot of them can have very little idea about the broader world. Although even the 3 on the left aren't that know to him. It still leads one to wonder how powerful they are.

The last offer comes from Hunter's Association, which is relatively speaking, a new kind of force. It is called association for a few reasons. It holds no view on politics at all, while it is an organization strictly working toward the systematic approach for the Walkers and the Hunts of the Dark Beings. The premise is built upon the foundation member who goes by the name of Prime Hunter.

Each Walker in this organization has a listing, while certain rewards and benefits are for their taking. The full list of inside information is prohibited to share and everything remains confidential. It's fairly secure and privately owned by the founding member.

When one enters, one could leave, but one is prohibited from talking about it, but very few would do so. Secrets or whatnot, the Hunter Association has plenty of power, with many Walkers who are part of it, while also being part of different organizations. It is all thanks to disregarding the political aspects, and many Walkers of the other Organisations like it for its variety of benefits. It creates a space of work, which is free from struggles and policies. Sharing for the sole purpose of fighting together is the gist of this organization.

Though William discovered only a few certain things about it. Such as quite a hefty salary, non-mandatory missions, detailed help of the research put from various sources, and a team-up or assembling your own team of Walkers for the hunts. That last one isn't all that bad of a thing. He is surprised why they have a representative here since they shouldn't have a need for direct recruitment. Rank 1 is too weak.

About that... William doesn't understand it.

Hearing Mi-Yung remark, Nagoya acts as if she doesn't hear her. No longer interested, she leans back in her chair, while forgetting her offer altogether. People of 75 affinities are passable in her opinion, but playing and trying too hard isn't her style. She may as well try later if she could.

“Anyone else?” Schultz asks.

“What about you, brother Rey? Not interested?” Cloud slaps Rey across the table with his robust hand and causes his head to slam into the desk.

“S-sorry... my bad.”

“Damn... I am not interested in this goddammit... A basic of Vectors is boring.”

“But you were interested before!” Cloud shouts back, while not one of their words goes unnoticed by everyone in this room.

“Hmph! I heard you, Rey!” This time, Mi-Yung tells in a clear, echoing voice. Light in her eyes, she made up her mind about something at this very moment. Something that she kept hiding in her mind, and a single comment from William, shook her up.

“He is not only a Vector type,” she reveals.

“Not only?... you mean... He is a dual Walker? What is the second type? Wait? He just awakened! That shouldn't happen! Secondary types can appear while undergoing certain evolution, or mutations. That is impossible... Not wait... It could be. Wrong. It could happen, if....” Rey mutters out loud, while Mi-Yung's attempt to seize more chances piques his curiosity.

Mumbling whatever knowledge he knows to be the truth, Rey's mind is in a shambles of possibilities.

Meanwhile, her smile is obviously noticed by Schultz, who announces something very specific.

“Well, since miss Song says so, let the 1st briefing end, while the second one will start right away. If that's what miss Song wanted, of course.”

“Of course. We can start with the 2nd briefing immediately.” She agrees while turning around to whisper something to William, who hasn't got a chance to say a word.

He excepted this, but it still leaves him in awkward positions where he relies on Mi-Yung's ability to work with familiar people. This leaves him prone to the play, which is about the politics and relations of the many powerful Walkers. They have many years of friendships or something different altogether.

1 and a half minutes go by, while Mi-Yung ends her brief whispering to William, whose face is full of surprises. He didn't expect the words that she just told him.

“Alright. I am fine with overseeing the 2nd briefing as well. It acts according to the proxy rule sets. Am I right, sir Schultz?” Mi-Yung announces.

“Of cou..”

“Wait, a damn second! What tells you he has a secondary type? That doesn't make sense unless he booted the system that would tell him that!” Rey jumped right at Schultz's words without a spect of hesitation or remorse. Over the last minute and a half, his mind worked in tandem with Mi-Yung's claims. Many possibilities and wonders enter his many calculations, which reveal the possibilities that could cause her to claim to be right. There is no point in her lying about it in this place since it's important.

Yet, it still ends up in acts of doubt, since he never heard of Rank 1 having double types before. He heard of a couple, and most were kind of freaky ones. Although he knows one that happened in 1st rank, it's happened somewhere else and not in the Federation. It is no surprise that he is skeptical about her claim and voices it instead.

Though, Schultz looks at the madman on his left, while sighting without any anger. There is no point in that since he knows the sincere curiosity even within the current situation.

“My words are honest, Rey. You know it very well, don't you?” Mi-Yung says with a smile and doesn't need to lie about anything.

“It doesn't mean you can't be right, Mi-Yung!” Ray's gaze pierced the air, as a sudden gust of wind spread like a tornado from his body. In a moment, he is gone from the place on top of this semi-circle.

Then, he appears before the Mi-Yung, who watches the head smaller Ray in expectation of this to occur.

His whole being shrouds the dark wind, which makes use of Arcanite, and the wind element itself. It comes from his both shoulders or his back itself. Almost as if he has wings, yet his speed was inconceivably fast for even Mi-Yung to see his movement in a clear picture. No... she wouldn't do so even with her activated powers.

Standing there before the pair of William and Mi-Yung is Rey, who is almost as short as William.

Though, it leaves no trace of unhappiness or bothers on his face. Instead, he is watching William and the crimson light on his forearm.

“I will watch this play from here if Schultz is fine with it?” Rey claims, without giving a choice for refusal. He doesn't even glance at Schultz, as he stands there with folded arms.

His Emblem is still active, it leaves some pressure in his proximity that William could feel through his skin. It makes him wonder... No. This is his first time seeing a highest ranking Walker activating his Emblem in his eyes. Rey appears much bigger than he appears, while his eyes and his whole appearance are quite striking.

“Do what you want, Rey. I agree with miss Song's previous words. The rest of the tables can come to their own observation, amidst the activation and further tests of William Gale's Emblem. Any complaints?”

Silent agreement prevails, so the 2nd briefing starts.

William, with little hesitation, but with Mi-Yung's previous remarks, put his right fist forth.

Opening it up, a call of the system spreads in his mind, as the screen appears before his eyes. The same as before, with no differences.

Yet, he feels calm as he watches it right now.

“Activate.” He thinks, and an Emblem within his right hand explodes into the matter of power. The matter of Arcanite goes from small swirling Vectors to a much bigger, and denser one, to a claw-like appearance around William's hand.

It goes according to the previous sight that William tried dozens of times. William follows the trail of the Mindless eyes, which goes according to a certain rhythm in his mind.

His whole mind focused on the activation, and then on the flow of the Vectors to a basic view. What is currently on the display for all eyes to see is swirling matters of Vectors around William's right hand. It forms a claw.

“Fascination... This redness of crimson... Such deep color. This version of Vectors! That is quite an impressive base view of the Vector type, but what about the second one?”

“I am uncertain how to awaken that within him for now. It's too early, but... his System booted up as well. That's why I know he has it.”

“System? On the first day?”

“Yes.”

“Well... that is not as surprising as hearing the talk about the Dual Types to be fair. Did the status sheet portray his types as dual?”

“S-sir... It says Vector, and Mutant respectively.” William, for the first time, utter some words. Pointing with his left hand forward, he sees the status screen right before his eyes.

“Mutant? Mutant... Right... that would explain some strangeness... or inability to work it out... very well. This satisfies my curiosity.” Rey says at last while floating back to his table instead of a singular gust of wind that almost seemed like teleportation.

“Vector and Mutant type?” Margaret mutters beyond her resting hands on her chin. Her curiosity has been piqued too, but for different reasons.
