Watching his... everything, William gazes more to his System than his Hand, that... do something, that he is yet to notice. “Right, the Mindless Eyes. Mi-Yung explained it to me so vaguely. It is like some sort of instinctual force that awakens with the Emblem while being... different from everything. So strange. I want to see what it can do with that now, that I am a little rested. Let's try comprehension like the last day.” William decides and begins to summon his try to comprehend the Status sheet that tells the Type.
Feeling the Mindless Eye immediately, he is on the right track in a single moment, which is great.
His focuses gaze is on the screen, as he waits, while the Mindless Eyes does its own things.
Unnoticed, or by his lack of awareness, the bedsheet around him is turning to dust, and so are the parts of the bed. They are yet to crumble away, while William's unmoving body helps with stabilizing its structure.
“I will see through you!” He mutters in determination, which shows even after a long previous day, and a small amount of sleep.
10 minutes.
15 minutes.
20 minutes.
25 minutes.
He goes on with his gaze. The all-encompassing feeling of pressure within his mind passes to his eyes. It hurts, It even makes his vision blurry, and a bit crimson.
Though, that isn't blood. Not like he complains, as this also happened on one of his last tries.
Alas, he couldn't continue, as the strain is too much for him to endure. Rubbing his eyes and temples with his left arm, he feels a bit better, after stopping the connection with the Mindless Eyes.
“Crap... I shouldn't have gone this long. 27minutes and each following minute feel like an eternity. It's so damn annoying and straining on the mind.” He curses out loud while motioning his hard-to-move right arm to close the System and Emblem away.
Feeling Vectors swirling back to his Emblem, Wiliam feels a bit better. Both lighter in the body, and calmer in the mind.
He could feel the calling of the mindless eyes echoing within his mind... But that will wait... No. He doesn't feel ready for whatever it tells him.
Sitting up after this single try, William notices something bad, as it no longer goes unnoticed by him.
“Oh!” A singular syllable encompasses the whole mess of what he has just done. Destroyed bedsheet is the latest problem as it's simple fabric, that is cheap. On the other hand, the wood under the mattress, and the mattress itself, aren't.
“Well... Let's see...” He moves away, without falling into the bed, or destroying it further with his weight. He could tell it is almost falling apart. ”Oh shit... It is completely destroyed. Mi-Yung will be mad for sure.” William wails at his mistake, while not knowing what to do at all.
He may as well tell her the truth. She will understand it, right?
“My Emblem... that Annihilation Element is so savage. Can't I turn it off or something? How am I supposed to touch something when it's activated? Won't it hurt people or something? Won't it end my... clothes? I don't want to be naked and running or fighting against the monsters. Though, they wouldn't mind it... No! I don't want to even think about that.” William talks out of his mind, in his attempt to calm down.
Still, his clothes are somewhat passable, as his sleeves are out of his way, and since he was laying down, the general flow of the Vectors wasn't going much around his body. It's a case of the physical realms of Vectors, where they flow in a distinct pattern. Some would say the case is like wind, gravity, or a simple leaf that travels in the wind. The only distinct thing is the right side of his shirt around his shoulder, which looks a bit scorched and destroyed. Other than that, William rather fleets the scenes without him, even realizing the condition of his upper body. The bed is much worse news anyway.
In the kitchen, Mi-Yung is still there, as her work differs from the kind that Luke has to endure. Standing there behind the countertop, she is prepping some meal or awaiting something, or someone.
“G-good morning.” William stutters as he isn't ready to talk.
“Good day to you. How are you feeling after the last, or today's day?” she asks as she turns around. An apron around her working clothes and her hair in a bun leaves her with a different look than usual.
“It.. Great. I feel great. Though... I don't know. Something... happened.” He stutters as a pang of guilt washes over his face.
“What happened? You good or not?” she tells with a worried face. For the last 6 weeks, she watched out for him and could tell a few things that mattered about William.
“I summoned my Emblem in the bed... It got... Well... Annihilation Element destroyed it.” William tells her honestly, while he couldn't lie or hide this at all.
It's not like he likes to do either of these things, as being honest is the easiest thing to do to solve things. While getting into trouble, or making trouble with others is also his expertise, it's different this time, because he wasn't aware of this. That, William knows quite a bit.
Rolling her eyes, Mi-Yung takes a deep sigh, while chuckling as if it is the most trivial problem she has ever heard.
“As long as it's just that, it is fine. Don't worry about it. It's a bed. Nothing to cry over.” she tells as she waves her hand in dismissal.
“R-really?”
“Wanna heard about my time and how I destroyed buildings when I Awakened?” Mi-Yung says while midway giggling through the flustered face that was on his face.
“B-building? What... Why?”
“It's actually very easy to lose control of your Emblem when you are new. Yours is quite calm if I am being honest with you, but it may as well be the case of forceful awakening where things may go wild quickly, or slowly. It seems like it's the latter in your case. Get it?”
“It is?”
“For now it is. Have you tried something with your Emblem since you summed it? Was your try good after waking up?”
“I did some comprehension of the Type from the last day. You told me it's important.” William tells her the truth and feels a bit better because he doesn't fault him for anything. He even forgets her words about destroying houses, as he can't imagine what a proper Awakening even looks like.
“Past 20, or 25-minute mark?”
“27 actually. I feel like I am getting close, but it's still far away. It's that strain, and feeling of eyes or whatnot... It's like having a rat in my head if that makes some sense.”
“Oh, you don't say. Neither of that is a bad thing. Sit.” she tells as if the matter of fact isn't all that important. Pointing at the chair before the table, she tells him that the last word is of a surprising amount of importance.
Sitting down, as if he doesn't have any other option, William is glad that she isn't upset about the destroyed bed. Such a bed as that one must have been hard to get or straight-up expensive, so William is surprised she wasn't upset.
Right. She isn't at all, since much worse things could happen. Even such kinds which could result in deaths and many injuries.
Taking her apron off, Mi-Yung places plates of some vegetables and sandwiches on the table. Facing him straight on, she plans to explain to him the next course of action, which will be very important to him.
“You are a Walker now.”
“I know... Whatever that means.”
“Nothing much what you from what you already know. Anyway. Your choice of Academy will happen in 10 days. The trial is the name of the sort of examination held by the Emblem Academy. You will be a bit surprised by the standards of the Academy or its practices. So, I am telling it for your sake, as any secrets are useless at this point. I used to be an instructor there for a year after I got my Rank-Up to Rank 6.”
“You did? You never told me that.”
“I do now. The Trial that I am telling you about is the thing you will have to do. It consists of a series of tests, which will revolve around you, being a Walker. That means either the abilities of the Emblem, force in the System, or Skills. Do you know why?”
“Because it's Emblem Academy?”
“Right. Another thing about the Trials and your case is that 10 days from now, you need to get more familiar with your Emblem's powers. Sometimes, the test can get a bit brutal. Though no deaths were ever produced from them, many injuries did.”
“T-this? H-how come?” William shakes his head in denial while a gust of nervousness envelops his back.
“Spars. Tests. Even introductory battles against Rank 1 monsters are sometimes included. It's like that, you know? A bit brutal.”
Gulping down some water, William is becoming to regret his choices, but what he can say? Oh, right, the usual staff.
“I am... not afraid,” he says with obvious hesitation.
“I am not. Do you want to hear why?”
“P-please. I do.” William agrees as he shoves a sandwich into his mouth to make the stutter away.
“Your Emblems show some strange things. I've seen it with my own eyes. How about revealing some things that may cause some misunderstandings from occurring?”
“Strange things? What... kind?” he tells as he half munches his meal, and half hesitates what she wants to even hear.
“Well, it depends on you, doesn't it?” Mi-Yung utters, as a glow within her eyes began to show a tad bit of emotion, amidst.. something else.
It makes William not hesitate, as he trusts her to quite some extent.
So, he explains it to her, as this is about what he could tell since she did so much for him already. The Awakening and the Examination are already over, so that leaves her tasks are more or less finished. Whatever that even is, that is.
“Y-you mean.. what? L-like... It sometimes happened... The disappearance of my emblem from my hand? The Mutant type? I don't know what that is. The annihilation element is something I never discovered on the 6th floor. What do you mean? I don't want to keep secrets... it's just... I was hesitant, as I wanted to uncover them myself.”
“I am not blaming you. Walkers are people like you, us. All of them have some secrets. It's normal to not tell them unless you have a reason. Do you trust me?”
“I do.”
“Good, in that case, I watched your Awakening with this.” Mi-Yun points with her finger to her eyes, as all so strange patterns of Vectors flow from, and around, the eyes. It resembles very tiny Vectors, unlike Williams.
It has lighting that resembles fire or, to be more precise, the energy of the light, glow, or something like that. It makes her head that much mesmerizing, while the eyes are turning into two special points of her whole being. A center of attention, and encompassing mesmerization that tells something majestic, is within her eyes.
“It's a Skill called Allseer Eyes. I can see a lot of things while I did my best to reach Rank 7 with it.”
“It... looks good. Almost godly, if I don't take that word lightly.” William mumbles through the sandwich while the sweat pours through his back. He is nervous, while each of her words and sentences reveals much more than ever before.
Is that what she meant, when one reaches the higher stage of the Walker, the door to everything will be opened. She wasn't kidding at all.
“Thank you,” she smirks in a strange pattern that looks anything like any normal smile. Are her eyes so strangely vibrant that make her smile appear indistinct? Maybe that's the case. ”With that said, I saw your Emblem jump from your forearm. It was a strange thing, while your veils and storm of Vectors were never seen like that before. It was a bit too big, but that wasn't the shocking part. There was something about it... that was stranger to me, but I don't know about it.”
William stops chewing, as her words surprise him much more than he is willing to admit. “W-what do you mean?” He mutters, with a half-open mouth.
“You don't know more? It's you I am talking about. It is your Emblem.”
“I have never seen what happened in my Awakening. If it also happened in that place, I guess it can't be helped. Alright, I will tell you about that. It happened about 11 years ago.. when I was 5. It was... back where I'd seen my mother for the last time. I remember very little from those times, but the sight of my Emblem, its glow, and disappearance, was not something I had ever forgotten. Ever since then, it disappears from my hand when I woke up. Usually every week or every other one. However, I always find it in my hand, lap, bed, or in the room, I slept in.” He explains as he couldn't help but say the full story amidst her storming gaze.
“So you at least know. That's great and even good. Anything else?”
“No. Apart from occasional disappearances, I noticed no manifestation or anything. Maybe some light, but that isn't that strange, considering the term of the Emblem. I've seen many children who emit the lights from their Emblems. Am I right?”
“That could mean a simple thing. It could be your start of being Rank 0, but with that, it's nothing very concerning. What exactly happened 11 years ago?”
“M-my mother... I have never seen her since.”
“Your mom? I don't know about her, but what about anything else?”
“Why? Wasn't my mother in the Academy? Have you never found out anything about her?” William asks with much agitation and clutches the remaining sandwich into small bits.
“I wonder that too, but it's not simple. Anyway, 11 years at rank 0. No wonder you did what you did. I get it a little now.” Mi-Yung tells meaningfully, while also having some food on her own. She almost acts more indifferent than anything, which adds some frustrating element to William's mood. Once again, someone changes the subject of his interest and question. Is it wrong to know about his family? Screw his father, but the case about his mom is very dear to him. He always loved her, and the appearance of his mother, leaving his side is still within his heart.
It troubles him, as it's nothing but a helpless sight that will perhaps... forever haunt his mind.
Feeling irritated, but not angry, he calms his mood down and keeps his sanity intact. “R-right... I know that Rank 0 has some strange manifestations or powers, but I swear I am not lying about anything.”
“I am not interrogating you. I am just stating the things I want to know about you and your situation.”
“It feels like you do.”
“Right, maybe a little, so sorry about that. I had a few wonders myself because your father never talked about his Emblem much. It all comes from observation of others or things I learned myself. Your father was special like you, but I never heard of an Emblem that can escape Walker's body. That is strange and shouldn't happen. Your father also had the same Element, which is quite a rarity. You never heard of it for obvious reasons in the library, because it is a dangerous Element while working with it... is hard. It's disclosed a piece of information and with a single occurrence, in the generation, it's rare. At least within the Federation grounds, if you know what I mean. Such Element has some sides to it that may be good and bad. Can you guess them?” she explains further and grasp another piece of sandwich.
“Like positives and negatives?”
Mi-Yung nods in affirmation amidst the sudden chewing of her meal.
