84 Silence

Floodlights come on as thousands of engines fire up in the distance, shining light in the distance. With minutes of sneaking back up, my ears can finally perk up, "A shame we're not taking DC too." "Yeah, I wanted to see them kill that little kid." I grit my teeth and tap my gun against my leg, "Man, that's all sorts of wrong." "America can finally get on top and stay there. Small price to pay." What? "I don't know, this sounds like Germany all over again, man." "We aren't Germany." I peek and that psychopath smiles, while the other crosses his arms, "Sure we aren't, we're killing people that just want to survive."

The crazy one laughs, "They are demons, get with the program." "They're people!" I jump and hug the tree with my back as he shoots him in the head. "Stupid boy." Others run over, "What happened!?" "I shot him dead. Said those demons are people." They laugh and shoot into him some more. Sick bastards. Their radio comes on and the crazy one answers, "Yeah?" We're moving out, no one gets past you guys or around. He shoots another clip into the poor guy, Copy? "Yeah, yeah- I copy." I mean it! He sighs, "Alright, you heard him! Go into the forest, no one gets through!" "Yes sir!"

He walks up and I gulp. Three knocks hit the tree and then he whispers, "I know you're behind there." I jerk around and hold him at gunpoint, I squint at the sight, blackened veins in his face. His eyes go completely black, "You have fifteen minutes to run." I shake my head, "Why give me time at all?" He smiles, "As much as I want to see that girl of yours die, I want Knight dead more." My gun goes to my holster and I bolt back towards Diesel, "Happy hunting, men!" Can't say no to an opportunity like this!

A soldier turns around and my knife goes into his neck. I lower him down without giving a chance for him to pull the trigger. I rip his gun out his hands as his friend comes up. "Don!?" He gasps and I point the barrel to him as he raises his rifle- Shit! I open fire and he falls to the ground. "Demon!" I turn and jump for cover. A soldier rips into the tree as I sit down. A loud crack sounds and something dense whizzes through the air fast. The man grunts and collapses. I raise my gun to the heavy figure approaching. "You alright?" I lower it, "What was that?" "Stone sheet."

I turn to face the poor soldier, a thick stone pole sticks through his chest, "Holy shit." He drops my stash of guns, "Unholy bastards." He growls as I grab onto him, "You're ok?" He rolls his shoulder, "Focus on Rose." He falls down and sprawls out. "What are you doing?" He rubs the ground and in a circle, the ground sinks, then moves upward to form a ceiling. "Mama's got a plan." "What is her power anyway?" He closes his eyes, "Shush, she'll only tell it once!" Minutes pass as I doze off.

I groan at the loud rumbling noises. My eyes open as I realize we're moving. I shake my head, push the guns off me in the pitch black darkness and get up to grab a cold railing. I raise my pistol and turn on the flashlight, the small platform of stone I stand on slides fast down a tunnel. The wall ahead crumbles, forming stone pillars to support the whole system. In the back, the tunnel collapses once we clear it. "Diesel!?" A panel opens in the floor, "Get ready! We're headed up soon!" I sit down next to the guns we've managed to steal along the way, "Gotcha!" He groans as we slow down, "Get ready to fight, Norbert!" I grab the railing as the platform jerks upward. "How deep are we!?" Parts of the platform break off, dirt falls on my head. "Diesel!?" The panel breaks open as he screams in pain. The tunnel finally breaks through to the surface. It slows almost to a halt, it all just crumbles and I tumble and roll.

I cover my head as explosions go off near us. I grab a gun, then crawl to Diesel. "You ok!?" He groans as blood trickles out the seams of the stone suit. "Over there!" Shit! I crawl to cover and grit my teeth.
