Jean sighs, "Six hours just to get this far out?" I smile, "The talks with the Humble-men took longer than needed." Norbert groans, "Damn it, another tree." I sigh, open up the door as Jon gets on the turret. I hop off onto the road and take a breath in. I scope out the tree line, a deer stares straight at me. It snorts, whinnies, then runs away. "Jon!" "What?" I clench my fists, "See anything?" "Something wrong?" The ground cracks, I turn and a giant horned lizard rushes towards me. "Whoa!" I jump away and it slams against the car. "I don't have a shot!" I grab it's horns, "Don't bother just yet!" I slam him onto his side and slam my fist into it's belly. "Watch it's tail!" The power of a large hammer slams against my back. I fall onto it's belly as Jon shoots his gun at it. Another hit onto my back, I hunch over and start punching it hard as I can. It makes fast steps out from under me, hisses in my face, showing off it's sharp, short teeth and horns like a devil. It zooms into it's hole with a funny stride.
Jean hops out and grabs hold of my back. "It bad?" "You got cut pretty good, how's your head?" I bang on the ground, "Bested by a damn lizard turned giant." Jon smiles, "Looked kind of cute." I scoff, "Said the turtle lover." Norbert hops out, "Ok, they know to watch it through here. We should wait up." I smile, "Yeah, don't want Jack and them running into-" Jean smiles, "Lizzie." We all turn to her with reluctant smiles. "Am I good, Jean?" "You should rest that off." I nod as the other two get in the car. "You should rest, Diesel." I shake my head, "Nope, Lizzie won't dare approach when I'm here."

She slides down next to me, "What, something on your mind?" She leaps in and hugs me, "Thanks for taking me in." I pause, then pet her back, "No problem, kiddo." She hugs her knees, even in this heat. "Jean, it's not my place, but how'd you end up in my barn?" She mumbles through her knees. "Right, sorry I asked-" "Chase, he took me in since sixteen." I clench my fists, "Better not be a creep." She grabs my shaking fists, then fixes her hair, "No, he was sweet, a couple years older." "Oh." She hides her face with her hands, "I fell in love with him so hard." I gulp. "Did he-" She starts staring off, hands quivering. "One night, he came inside the apartment, I woke up to him screaming." I grab her hands, but she keeps going, "Into the car, bright lights, a crash. Men shot at us-" "Jean!" I shake her and she stops with tears in her eyes. I hug her and she clings so tight, my back cracks in a bad way. I inhale off the pain and just let it happen. If I ever find out who did this to you, to Chase, I'll kill em'!
