Dave shouts at the Governor, “We are not going to be the scouts!” “You can and will.” Dave clenches his teeth and I grab his shoulder, “Above all, let the kids stay in the middle, where it’s safe.” Soldiers gasp as someone gets past them, we all turn and guns fly from their holsters. Jack with a determined expression meeting at least six barrels of guns. I run up, hug him and moan at the bone-shattering pain of my knee hitting the cold hard ground, he jumps at first, but he just hugs back. They all lower their guns as he mumbles, “I’m going too.” I pull away and he grabs my shoulders, “No. You’re staying where you’re safe.” His face twitches and says firm, “I’m going.” I grab my back and try standing up, Dave helps me as I shout at the kid, “No!"
The governor waves to the soldiers, “Get this child out of here!” Jack looks up at me and stomps, “I’m not a child! I can kill those demons!” I jerk my finger at him, right in his face, “Killing is no joke, boy! You don’t want to see what these soldiers have!” Soldiers grab his arms as he shouts and resists.
Dave pats my back, “That was harsh.” I brush his hand away as the governor wipes his face, then looks up at me, “Fine, that kid’ll be with that Hearth woman, as will Rose.”
A man stomps in with a devilish stare, his eyes jerk and eye lock with me. He growls, “I did not give you the authority to even look at Rose.” I shrug, “Wrong side of the sleepin' bag?” “This isn’t a game!” I yawn, “You’re just paid to care about her. I went out my way to make sure she was safe while you slept like a damn baby.” He snarls and the governor smiles as he presses harder on the trigger. “Rose is not a walking bag of money, she’s-“ he shakes his head, “She’s like my own daughter!” “Ok, mister hired muscle.” He shakes his head as the governor shouts to his guards, “Everyone guard that fucking tent door or so help me god! Go on!” They all march outside and Dave follows.

“Now you, you want back to your country?” Norbert nods, “You will be in our scout unit.” He shakes his head, “No, I have a girl to protect!”
The governor points to me, “He has offered to do just that. She’ll stay in the middle of our convoy with Miss Hearth.” He turns to me, then back at him, “No, you’re just going to give us a ride.” The Governor puts his arms under the table, “If you want her back home safe, it’s all hands on deck. Play your part or explain your failure to your Queen.” He clenches his fists as the Governor moves his arms slightly. My eyes widen- He’s got a gun under there?!
Norbert just turns around and walks out. The governor turns to me, “Any questions, old man?” “You’re terrible.” “I’m terrible? You’re one of them, the very things that threaten our way of life.” I look down, “I would kill you right now, but all these civilians outnumber us. They cherish you due to your reckless charge into war.” I look up, “I can help everyone.” He squints, “Until you decide we aren't worthy of it.” I stand up and walk away- “Gear up! We’re going to Humble to fix you wasting all our fuel!” This guy’s going to be a problem.
