“So what are your powers?” Why is this idiot following me? “I have no clue.” “Oh come on!” He gets in front and opens his arms to me, “I can control dead things, it seems.” On a closer look, not a speck of that black stuff on him. “You’re not like the others.” He smirks, “Because I’m special.” I scoff, “You sound like the crazies in Livingston.” He crosses his arms, “Heard about them from an escapee. Nasty stuff.”
Not now. I fall and he catches me, “You alright?” “Let me go.” He chuckles, “Damn, you’re quivering like a starving dog.” I tear myself away and hunch over. “Damn.” My blood drips from my arm, that crack opened up again? A black blob rises from the street and out drops a cane. He kneels and holds it out, all to savor some of my blood dripping down. He sniffs the air, “Oh, now that’s power.” I take the makeshift cane and start walking.
Come on, gotta ditch this creep. His footsteps draw nearer and I roll my eyes. He walks besides me with a smile. “Just eat me already, you creep.” His face slowly blackens, “Why do that? I’d have to make it last.” He shakes it away, “No- It'd better if on our side. Sorry about that.” I try to pick up the pace on three legs, but I simply can’t, “Can you just leave me be?” I gasp as I slip backward, “Shut up and let me help you.” The sludge doesn’t burn? It just rushes me away like a riptide as he waves.
No matter how hard I try, the sludge keeps holding me inside. It squelches away and all that’s left is a walking stick and a heart drawn with sludge. “Gross.” I get up and turn a corner, there’s the gates.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
I march up and bullets hit against the floor next to me. Jean’s blurry silhouette waves erratically. I keep going and as I draw near, she helps them open the gate. One man marches up, “I said go away! Don’t make us kill you old man!” “I’m no threat.” “They told me you’re a freak. That’s why you got through them unscathed!”
A cloud of fog rolls inside my head, the back of my brain burns a little.
I shake my head and limp along with a cane, “You’re going to be attacked and you care about little old me?” I smirk as he chases after me, “What about an attack?!” I shake my head, “They saw I had powers. Let me live. But you guys-“ “We did nothing to them!” He crosses his arms. “You idiots really stirred the nest.” “We can take any attack. We will secure our home again.” I scoff, “You heard the inhuman roars. Cooped up in one sad fortress with the enemy at all sides.” Penny follows with us, “They’re inside with the radio.” She tries to help me walk, but I brush her off. “I got it, Penny.” “Penny?” Her eyes widen at something, “What is it, hun?” “Uhhh-“ That guy raises a brow as Penny touches my shoulder, “Diesel? Are you okay?!” I smile, “Penny. Don’t worry about me. It’s my job to ask you that.” She shakes her head, “My name’s Jean.” I squint, “Jean?” You're my wife though. I smile, “And I’m John smith.” She looks down and leads me inside.
This ain’t paradise. Soldiers run in the halls with ammo crates. Preparing for the battle. “Those Germans are as good as dead.” A loud crack and Penny grabs me, “N-not if you pop a disc- Diesel.”
