Day 4,642
Since it is closely tied to our profession, we decided to first learn more about Thuron’s monster business, and its impact on the kingdom itself.
From what we have gathered in the journals, monsters were the first inhabitants of this continent. They roamed far and wide, unchecked and unchallenged, until humans came and began taming them. Thuron was then founded when a group of settlers managed to tame an elder dragon, who became their guardian.
At first, these monsters were a nuisance and often killed on sight much like what we are doing in the Empire. But as Thuron expanded and their cities grew, they started to incorporate them into the economy. They bred them as pets and mounts, as guardians of their properties, builders of walls, and even as soldiers.
The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
Breeders and handlers become the richest businessmen in the kingdom, surpassing all merchants. Having a higher breed of monsters as pets are a symbol of wealth, and most are treated as equal to humans. It is fascinating how different the Thuronian’s way of life is… and also frightening. Without these monsters, could they have reached this level of prosperity? I highly doubt it.
I’ve sent a letter to Ranaul, reporting our findings and also asking his permission for us to start a business here in Tumrok. If we are to know more about the very creatures we’ve been slaying since our empire’s founding, we have to get involved from anther angle this time.
