Day 4,609

Day 4,609

Once again, I owe my life to Eina.

She took care of me when I was injured, defended the carriage where I was being treated whenever we were attacked, and never left my side until I had regained use of my legs. Since then, she has always accompanied me whenever I go like some bodyguard. It was annoying at first, and we argued several times in the first few days. But I soon grew accustomed to her constant presence. And I am glad, for this means she wouldn’t just run into trouble.

My memory of that attack was hazy. All I could remember was it was an ambush in broad daylight. We fought hard, but we were slowly being surrounded, so a team volunteered as decoys.

I was part of that team, but not Eina.

She must have known. She always knew. Because when I plunged into the battle at the rear lines, she charged after me, sword held high. For a moment, anger blossomed within me. She should not be there. She should stay back and retreat with the main force.

So when the monsters surrounded her, my sense of logic failed me, and I flew into a rage.

I could not remember much beyond that. But from what I could gather, I slew thirty monsters all by myself while suffering severe injuries. Thankfully, our healers are some of the best, and they brought me back from the brink of death.

So much has happened in the last few days. We lost forty more men, bringing our numbers down to less than three hundred. Fortunately, the monsters haven’t attacked us for two days now. And since we are less than a day’s journey from Arziron, we are optimistic.

But something was really odd. For some reason, there was a torn page in my diary. Did Eina write on this again?
