Paracosm

Paracosm (noun): an imaginary world created by a child

Slithering, wraith-like, and emanating black mist. Long arms stretching, reaching, trailing over the ground with strokes of feathery softness. No sound. Tendrils of midnight swallowing the walls, accompanied by shadows pulsing like a dark heart.

Then there were eyes.

Not two, but several lifeless orbs of light glinting unstably from within the rising darkness. They blink, but at different times, with different speeds; hollow and mindless asynchronization traversing through unconscious time.

And they grab you, slowly.

Icy sensation stinging with the slow force of a thousand tiny needles prickled up your arm, enveloping you, tugging on your soul to join the numberless others already melded into the mass of pitch-black void. You felt your sanity waver, fear a stony blanket wrapped around your brain, suffocating your thoughts while silencing your logic. Beneath you, the white bedsheets give away. Thus began the onslaught of imminent shadow, all colors vanishing from your vision, leaving you alone in the breathing, living mist.

Such was the monster dwelling in the closet, coming for the child at last.
